Organic Fruits and Vegetables can Reduce Your Toxic LoadI am passing this information along from Dr. Louisa Williams, ND. She is the author of, Radical Medicine. We shouldall read this book. This information is very helpful.

A 2003 study of Seattle school children showed switching to organic food immediately lowered pesticide levels inthe body. The study tracked preschool children and analyzed their urine for evidence of exposure to five different kindsof pesticides. Researchers found that children eating conventional diets had an average of six- to almost nine-timeshigher for children with conventional diets than for children with organic diets.

A 2006 study conducted at Emory University supported this conclusion. Researchers found that upon switching froma conventional to an organic diet, urinary levels of two organophosphate pesticide metabolites decreased immediatelyto an undetectable level.

Very few of the families studied ate 100% organic food. The researchers defined an organic diet as one that consistedof 75% organic foods. Making small changes can improve your familys health! Find a Westin A. Price Foundation chapterin your area. They know where to get organic or at least good clean food. Look on the Web.

If you cant buy all organic at least do it for those fruits and vegetables with the highest pesticide levels (the dirtydozen) and dramatically reduce your familys pesticide exposure.

The Environmental Working Group, a consumer advocacy and research group lists many of the dangers of pesticides. The group has developed a list of the Dirty Dozen, 12 fruits and vegetables you should always buy organic becausetesting has shown when conventionally grown they are loaded with pesticides. The Clean 15 includes fruits and veggiesthat have the lowest pesticide levels.

    The Dirty Dozen:

    1. Peach 2. Apple 3. Bell pepper 4. Celery 5. Nectarine 6. Strawberry 7. Cherry 8. Kale 9. Lettuce

(iceberg) 10. Grape (imported) 11. Carrot 12. Pear

    Clean 15

    1. Onion 2. Avocado 3. Sweet corn 4. Pineapple 5. Mango 6. Asparagus 7. Sweet Pea 8. Kiwi 9.Cabbage 10. Eggplant 11. Papaya 12. Watermelon 13. Broccoli 14. Tomato 15. Sweet potato

We know that this is not easy, but begin now and do your best. The toxic load in our body isresponsible for the failure of many of our systems. Blood vessel disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer,

Alzheimers, etc. are all related to too much toxic material in our body.

Natural remedies for an active lifestyleNorth AmericAN Precis syNdicAte

Being active is critical for stayinghealthy so its a good thing exer-cise-related aches and pains, soremuscles, and foot and leg crampsdont have to put a damper on the ac-tivities that people love. Thankfully, there are many safe and natural rem-edies to keep pain at bay.

Soft-tissue pain often benetsfrom rest, ice, compression and el-evation. While rest gives your bodytime to heal, ice is handy for reduc-ing swelling and dulling pain in sorespots. Be sure to wrap ice in a towelto prevent skin damage and aimto ice the injured area for about 20minutes an hour or as needed, forone to two days. Gentle compressionmay help to keep swelling in check, while elevation can also reduce it.

Injured ligaments and tendonsrespond well to increased blood ow,so moving and working with a physi-cal therapist may help you return topain-free workouts faster. Applyinggentle heat can improve circulationto make achy muscles feel better,

and a warm shower or massage cansoothe sore muscles. Remember, ifyou are ever in doubt about your in-jury, check with your doctor.

Still competing professionally af-ter 45 years, 70-year-old NASCARdriver Morgan Shepherd keeps inshape by being active every day andlooking after his health naturally. For Shepherd, the keys to stayinghealthy are choosing a fun activity, eating well and staying hydrated.

Some people like running butI prefer to get my running done onroller skates, says Shepherd. I geta really good workout, plus I hydrate

with plenty of water, before, duringand after a skate.

When you need more than rest, ice or heat but dont like the side ef-fects of stronger pain medicines, all-natural homeopathic products offersafe, effective solutions for aches andpains. For information on Hylandshomeopathic recovery products, such as Muscle Therapy Gel with Ar-

nica, Arnica 30x, Leg Cramps, LegCramps PM, and Bioplasma Sport, visit www.hylands.com.

All the products are available na-tionally in Whole Foods Market, Vi-tamin Shoppe and other natural foodstores, grocery stores, supercentersand pharmacies. A community ofactive adults can be found at www.facebook.com/HylandsFitTalk.
