Use Stainless Steel Marking for the identification of cables, hoses, pipes and components where durability and resistance from the surrounding environment is essential. The system comprises of carrier plates with raised bridges (for direct threading of steel cable ties) or punched holes (for wire, bolts or rivets).

Select from packs of individual characters A –Z, 0–9 and special characters. Attach these characters to a carrier plate and clamp down using pliers or similar tool. Carrier plates can be marked using the individual character marking described or they can be custom made with high quality stamping that is clearly visible even after it has been painted over.

Carrier plates are offered in five lengths to allow for shorter or longer legends. They also come with two attachment alternatives: raised bridges (slots) are designed only for attachment using the stainless steel cable ties, holes are the alternative where you can attach using wire, bolts or rivets*.

Attach marked carrier plates using either stainless steel cable ties or wire. They come in three sizes for varying applications and have a minimum tensile strength of 450N. Use cable ties only with carrier plates made with raised bridges.The stainless wire should only be used with carrier plates made with holes for mounting.

To get started, we recommend purchasing one of our starter kits. Accessories include a soft carry bag for kits and manual or automatic tie fixing tool designed to easily attach and secure carrier plates using cable ties. Automatic offers the added benefit of pre-tensioning and the automatic cutting of cable ties.

Crimp characters onto Carrier plate.

Can be used for Cable Marking.

Step 1Thread cable tie through one end of Carrier Plate and wrap around pipe.

Step 2Position the width of the tie into the Tie fixing tool. If no tool go to Step 3.

Step 3Release trigger on the tie fixing tool to tension cable tie around the circumference of pipe. If no tool, tension with a pair of pliers.

Step 4Cut off the excess of cable tie to complete attachment.

Roll Form Pipe Markers

Made from a laminated self-adhesive plastic film, these markers come on a roll, paper backed and with a perforated chevron/arrow for easy flow indication. Material is best suited for smooth and clean surfaces. All colour combinations listed are standard markers and comply to Australian Standards AS2700-2011.

Roll form available in a select range (single colour) pipe marker legends only. Two colour pipe markers will be supplied in packs.

Why Mark Pipes?Pipe markers aid in the quick identification of a pipes’ contents – especially in an emergency situation. A successful pipe identification program helps employees, contractors and emergency responders to distinguish between pipes where there are several side by side. Pipe markers also save valuable time when tracing lines is necessary during maintenance.

Where Should Pipe Markers be Located?AS 1345 specifies that markers be placed adjacent to all junctions, valves, service appliances, bulkhead and wall penetrations. Markers shall be spaced no more than 8m apart except for long, uninterrupted straight runs of external services where spacing shall not exceed 50m.

Marker Design/Layout Requirements:AS 1345 addresses several elements of pipe marker design including:

Marker Layout – A marker is comprised of a printed word or words on a coloured background with a contrasting border and chevron to show direction of flow.

Marker Colours – The legend and background colours of a pipe marker are determined by the

pipes contents and are specified according to the tables on page 256.

Colours: Additional information about the contents of a pipe is communicated through the use of supplementary warning colours (outlined on page 255). Supplementary colours are sold separately as a wrap-around “band”, or can be printed on custom markers at the time of manufacture.

An acid resistant steel containing a minimum of 17% chromium, 11% nickel and 2% molybdenum. The material has good resistance in salt and wet weather environments. Good corrosion resistance to acids.
