Movie PitchThe idea for our film trailer is to do a crime film based on the

events at the Graff diamond store where robbers stole nearly £40m of items from a London jewellers in what police say was Britain's second biggest robbery. Two men with handguns threatened staff at Graff jewellers in New Bond Street on 6 August before taking 43 items. We are going to do a dramatization about the events not a reconstruction like you would see on Crimewatch.

InstitutionsThe institution we would want to use would be “Ska

films” because they have been involved in producing lots of other similar style movies like “Snatch” “Lock, Stock and Two Smocking Barrels” “Mean Machine” and “Layer Cake”.

“Ska films” is owned by Guy Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn who directed “Layer Cake” and Guy Ritchie directed “Snatch. Lock Stock”

Target Audience

Our target audience would be teenage and young adults but mainly males because our research suggests that males like violence, swearing etc. This therefore would mean that our film would fit the criteria of what teenagers and young adults would like. Also people would be interested in watching a film that is based on true events especially a crime this big that is unsolved.

The generic conventions from other texts in the same genre we will be using are not the cockney accents you will find in films like “Snatch” but the same style of clothing and characters will all be shown. Although the criminals who robbed the jewellery store would be classier then those found in Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Inspiration from other films

The films “Pulp fiction, Snatch, Lock Stock and Two smoking barrels” have been the main inspiration for our movie trailer.

The idea we like from the film Snatch is the one how all the characters are brought together by the diamond. Even though the storyline is basic it is the connections each character has to the diamond and each other that makes it stand out to other similar films. We would use a similar idea to this and try to show it in our trailer.

Also in Pulp Fiction all of the stories told interlink the characters who do not know each other as well. Pulp fiction is essentially a black comedy dressed up as a crime drama which is something we would like our film to be like.

Other InspirationsWe have also gained inspiration from the TV show Hustle. We looked at this

as this involves conning people in very complex ways. We had a look at how it was filmed, what sort of clothes they wore, such as suits, however they also wear disguises at various points. We looked at how the cameras were used, low angle shots to represent the powerful people in the show, which is something we will use, however they use quite a lot of mid shots and over the shoulder shots, which are used a lot when people are talking, so we need to decide how much dialect we are going to have in out trailer. We could also look at effective ways to film the robbery and the work before hand. We could also try and get inspiration for characters from this, how these kind of people react in these situations.

Directors

Directors we have looked at and tried to get inspiration from are ones such as Guy Ritchie who we talked about earlier, Shane Meadows who directed films such as This is England, which has a strong British connection, Dead Man’s Shoes and Somer’s Town, which uses black and white very effectively, something we could think about. Nick Love is another director we have studied, his films are also very British and are quite often set in different time periods, especially the 80’s, his use of props, clothing and music make him very good at this. One of these films, The Business, is one we have looked at as it has a crime link and the benefits of the lifestyle they could achieve from crime, which could link into our film for the bit after the robbery.

Basic StorylineThe film is based on the robbery in Graff

jewellery store in London on New Bond Street. The film will be told from the point of view of the robbers and about how they came around to robbing the shop and why. Obviously we do not have a lot of details about the robbery itself so we are just using it as an idea and any stories ideas will most likely not be true.

EditingThe editing we’ll be using for our film trailer will be,

using lots of fast paced, sharp transitions. We will also introduce each of our main characters with a couple of seconds of film for each of them. These couple of seconds for each will basically sun up the characters personality and persona so the viewer will already have a good idea how this character works before watching the actual film. Our inspiration for this idea came from the trailer ‘Snatch’ where they use this effect well.

Mood Board

This is our mood board, there is a little bit more off the screen but wisemap was being gay, you also can’t really read it on here, but it helped us out a lot and is very good.
