Head Professional – Martin RobinsonHometown: Wirral, England Swing Tip: Making sure that your big muscles control your swing will result in the most efficient shots. Try hitting some small shots with a towel wrapped under your arms, focus on rotating the shoulders in the backswing and the hips on the downswing and you will feel easy power come into your shots.

Scoring Tip: Training your mental skills will help to unlock your best performance; using mental imagery to paint a picture in your mind of what you are about to do before and during each and every shot is a crucial skill, which can be used to achieve clarity of thought and block out negativity and distractions, leading to a free mind and improved results.

Academy Professional – Ben ToddHometown: Bath, EnglandSwing Tip: For many golfers the most dreaded shot is a shank, where the ball strikes the hosel of the club and is sent almost at right angles to the target. This is often caused by the golfer’s hips and weight moving towards the ball in the downswing. To remedy this, place a golf ball under your toes of each foot and practice hitting some shots; this will give you the feeling of keeping your weight more in your heels.

Scoring Tip: To create a smooth and consistent putting stroke, it is important to keep your lower body absolutely still, while the rocking movement of the shoulders is the only moving part. To get an idea of how this should feel, practice your putting stroke with a wall behind you. As you repeat your stroke the wall will help you keep your lower body still and you will feel your shoulders moving independently.

Academy Professional – David LaingHometown: Edinburgh, Scotland Swing Tip: When coaching beginner golfers, I often see the instinct to try and hit at the ball, which means you loose the proper sequence of movement and rhythm. To improve your strike, try to turn your body fully into the finish position with your hips and chest facing the target. The club will strike the ball as a result, without trying to hit at it too much.

Scoring Tip: When playing bunker shots, we don't actually hit the ball. Try to contact the sand 1 to 2 inches before the ball; practice by drawing a line in the sand and try to start your divot consistently on this line. Your confidence will grow and bunker play will become easy.

junior golf development programmeThe Junior Golf Development Programme is a fantastic part of The Academy by Troon Golf and our PGA Professionals are passionate about developing the next generation of golfers. We offer six progressive levels of instruction, divided by age and ability, to continually challenge and grow aspiring golfers from 3 to 17 years of age.

The sessions are hosted at our private tuition area and includes fun fitness warm-ups, technical swing development, short game skill sessions and opportunities to play the par 3 course, ensuring each junior golfer enjoys a comprehensive experience at The Academy. We also offer Troon Junior Fit, which is an additional programme focusing on physical fitness, movement and coordination skills. Through fun circuit training style sessions of bodyweight, power and speed exercises, we help prepare young golfers to be the best golf athletes they can as well as set them up for life with a healthy outlook.

Our expert team of golf professionals will be on hand to plan and deliver a group coaching clinic which is suitable for beginners and experienced golfers alike. A typical clinic is broken into skill stations where participants will receive instruction on different aspects of the game, which will then be followed by a friendly team contest in which groups will come together and compete to be crowned champions. Depending on the duration of the clinic, we have the option to incorporate the contest on our 9-hole, par 3 course which will provide the ideal setting for an authentic and memorable experience for all.
