    Place Value CardsThese cards are used for games which teach place value and comparing numbers.

    Use the cards which best suit the needs of the children.For example to practice place value to 3 digits or comparing numbers with 3 digits use ones, tens and hundreds cards.To practice comparing decimals numbers to 3 places used tenths, hundredths andthousandths cards.

    Preparing the Place Value Cards

    Print the cards that you require, printing each set on a different colored stock card. Cutinto cards and laminate if desired. If several players or teams are playing it may be

    necessary to use 2 copies of each set.

    Games to Play With Place Value CardsThese games can be played with 2-4 players or teams.

    HIGHEST NUMBER

    Using the appropriate cards turn all cards face down.Players each select one card of each color and then arrange their cards in the correctorder to form a number. The player with the largest number is the winner.

    E.g. Player 1 would be the winner in each game.

    SMALLEST NUMBER

    Play this game as for Highest Number but the winner is the one who creates thesmallest number.

    CLOSEST TO ...

    Before starting this game choose a number to be aimed for. The winner will be theplayer who creates a number closest to this number.For example if playing with 4 digit numbers the chosen number could be 7500. The

    player who creates the closest number to 7500 is the winner.

    If playing with 3 decimal places the chosen number could be 0.4 or 0.753. The playerwhose number is closest to the chosen number will be the winner.E.g. Player 1 would be the winner in each game.

    Chosen number - 7500

    Chosen number 0.3

    FIND THE SUM

    For this game each player selects two of each type of card and creates two numbers.The numbers are then added together and the player with the largest sum is the winner.E.g. Player 1 would be the winner in this game.

    FIND THE DIFFERENCE

    Play this game as for Find the Sum but instead of adding the two numbers find thedifference by subtracting one from the other. The winner will still be the player with thelargest answer.
