I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles;

but today it means getting along with people.

~Mahatma Gandhi

MANAGE R S TO LE ADE R S

Leadership is a quality integrated in the DNA of WeSchool. We believe in developing individuals,to evolve

from becoming great Managers, towards assuming the global leaders.

With this thought process, we have associated ourselves with the leading US based Global Leadership

developmentinstitution Leadership Beyond Boundaries (LBB), a global initiative by the Center for Creative

Leadership (CCL), in US exclusively focuses on democratizing leadership development.

There are several challenges and issues facing our society and the World. Individuals alone cannot tackle

these. Itrequires each one of us to come together as one community, one nation and one world. It is

important to realize our role as responsible citizens and make our contribution to address and/ormitigate

these issues. Hence, the GCL Leadership Program at WeSchool is a small yet decisive step towards that

direction.

This intervention provides students with leadership and innovation know-how, along with an opportunity to

learn and practice skills, in a real-life context. The academic inputs at WeSchool, along with the GCL training,

helps the students to gain an appreciation of social challenges locally and globally; build self-clarity and social

commitment, that will serve over a lifetime. Participants learn about innovation in action processes; that is

collecting insights, identifying opportunity spaces, generating ideas, testing prototypes, and creating

pitches. In addition, the processhelps students reflect on leadership tenets of empathy, emotional

intelligence, alignment, collaboration, and actualization.

Management education has entered a new realmat WeSchool, as students are able to design prototypes,

scale up to the next level, imitate entrepreneurial ventures and at the same time find real-time solutions to

societal problems.

The rules of the game have changed. We often hear terms such as Globalization, Triple Bottom

Line, more for less for more, Disruptive Innovation, Sustainability, Technological revolution,

Social responsibility, Ethics, Governance etc. Infact, all these 'terms' are profoundly shaping the

current and emerging rules of the game. Hence, it is imperative for students to develop a global

mindset, hone their leadership skills, enhance awareness of self & context, sharpen holistic

thinking, besides adopting empathy & ethical sensitivity. At WeSchool, we are committed to

groom our students, with these qualities and skill sets.

We have chosen 'Global Citizen Leadership' and 'AAA' approach as the key building blocks step to channelize our

initiatives and processes. AAA is an acronym for 'Acquisition, Application and Assimilation', with reference to

knowledge. This approach emphasizes that students need to go well beyond acquiring knowledge, by also learning

how to apply the same in the context of personal and professional growth. At a level deeper, we are shaping student's

reflective behavior to generate meaning to their roles& responsibilities' towards Business, so that it is aligned with the

societal stakeholders at large.

As an example, many students' have had the opportunity to experience immersion in Global & Ruralsettings, while

conceptualizing and executing projects, i.e.: “Safe Women - Safe Nation”, “D-Magics”, “WeDvaan”, “SIFE”, “Udaan”. These

platforms along with the Mumbai University platform of “Munijan” have sensitized students to fashion their role,

incorporating the dimension of making a difference, and giving back to society. The “Global Peace Initiative” series

provided students a rare opportunity to learn and engage with luminaries like Dr. ShashiTharoor, Ms. Kia Scherr, Dr. S

SMantha, Mr. NiranjanHiranandani, Mr. S Haribhakti, to name a few.

Our students have benefitted from the “Integrative Manager” subject, which is uniquely delivered through team

teaching, towards nurturing an integrative thinking mindset, using best in class Case Studies from Harvard Business

School. "Innowe”, our innovation lab has nurtured and incubated new ideas/ projects of several students, which have

been appreciated by Industry. This encouragement has deepened our belief in integrating the philosophy of Design

Thinking & Innovation across all specialization/ Sectoral programs.

Finally, I am pleased to share that commencing with our current batch 12-14, all students have undergone a one day

Assessment Centre, to be followed through by Development Centre and crafting a Development Plan for each student.

We recognize our larger role of disseminating our knowledge and experiences towards the wellbeing of the society at

large, while deeply engaged in the development of our future Leaders and Managers.

I welcome you to the World of Welingkar.

from Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi to Asha Bhat, (the Sarpanch of a remote village in Kashmir), peace movements

(like the Non alignment Movement, Satyagraha and Panchsheela), peace efforts of UN at a global level,

importance of the Global peace Index and creation of structures for peace. This effort to reinforce world peace

formed the core agenda that was discussed by the eminent panelists.

The key panelists are:, Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani, (Co-founder of the Hiranandani Group), Mr. Sumit Mullick,

(Chief of Protocol and Principal Secretary, Maharashtra state), Mr. D Sivanandan, (Ex- Director General of Police,

Maharashtra state), Ms. Sania Mirza, (Indian tennis Star) and Mr. Shailesh Haribhakti, (Chairman, BDO Haribhakti).

music for the occasion) followed the panel discussion. Several prominent personalities from the fields of Cinema,

TV, sports, Corporate world and education walked the ramp along with children from NGOs for the cause of

Global peace.

INTEGRATION OF WESCHOOL - FMCG SECTOR

A roughly 80k Cr. market as per 2012 figures, and expected to treble in the next 3 to 4 years, this sector is a very prized career target for marketing

students. While Branding & Advertising remain the main drivers in the sector, increased competition, and continuous dilution of Brand Loyalty,

further aggravated by a flood of new Brands challenging the established ones, coupled with growing popularity of value retail formats, are creating

new challenges for marketers in the sector.

In this upheaval, more and more emphasis is coming to rest on strategising the Sales, Distribution & Supply Chain management area, besides of

course, innovative approaches in Product & Brand Management.

Specialized course on Product & Brand Management conducted by Prof. V. Kumar, (Regent's Professor & Director of PhD programs at J. Mack

Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University), is an extremely enriching learning input offered at WeSchool, for the marketing students.

Course on Logistics & Supply Chain Management with an emphasis on the application of knowledge in business situations through case studies

along with a series of intensive experiential learning based sessions on Sales Management, go a long way in honing the overall marketing skills of the

students. Current emphasis on BTL activities along with activation programs are also taken care of through projects and guest lectures. Students

are also sensitized to the various aspects of sales budgeting & forecasting models. Exposure to addresses made by FMCG greats like Mr. Paul

Polman, Leena Nair from HUL, participation in numerous competitions and seminars in the sector, add value to their overall competencies.

INTEGRATION OF WESCHOOL - RURAL SECTOR

We school's endeavor has been to develop a deep understanding of the emerging economy of the Rural sector, in order to enable the business

managers to reach out to the Bottom of the Pyramid. A focused module named as 'Exploring the Grassroots' was designed for sensitizing future

managers towards realities at grassroots. This module is being offered to management students at Weschool since past 5 years. We school's foray

into focused research on rural sector dates back to 2009 when it started a joint research project on 'Rural energy' with the Stanford University's

'Design for Change Centre'. In the same year, sensing the need of skilled managers in the Agribusiness sector, Weschool started a specialized Post

Graduate Program in Agribusiness Management.

Since then, there has been a continuous engagement with the corporeity's in the agribusiness and rural sector businesses through research

projects, roundtable conferences, seminars, competitions and personal interactions, thus creating strong Industry-Academia Interface. This

culminated into starting the two-year full time AICTE approved Post-Graduate Diploma Program in Rural Management in 2012.

We plan to further extend our outreach deep into the rural sector through

- Focused research projects based on corporate business themes and pain points

- Rural insights workshops for corporate managers in the rural businesses

- Training & Education programs targeting rural youth

Once poverty is gone, we'll need to build museums

to display its horrors to future generations.

They'll wonder why poverty continued so long in

human society - how a few people could live

in luxury while billions dwelt in misery,

deprivation and despair.

THE PLACEMENT PROCESS THE PLACEMENT PROCESS

The Placement Team at Welingkar comprises the Career Management Cell (CMC), Professors and student representatives. A Placement

Secretary is selected from the students, by the students and they along with the CMC undertake and manage the activities of Summer

Internship and Campus Recruitment. They correspond with prospective employers, arrange pre-placement talks, group discussions and

personal interviews on campus and provide all the facilities required by the companies to make the placement process as smooth as

possible.

A critical part of the placement process is the opportunity for the students and the industry to interact with each other and get to know

each other. There are several opportunities that WE School offers to help build a strong presence on campus.

The pre-placement talks are presentations organized by the company on the college campus. Over the years, they are one of the primary

modes of interaction of the students with the companies. It gives students a chance to know more about the company, the work culture

and a brief about the kind of people they would be working with. The students can also understand about the growth opportunities,

learning and advancement facilities at your organization. And they get a clear idea of the kind of profile that they would be working on. All of

this gives the student a clear understanding of the company and the kind of work he/she would be employed in. The PPTs can take place on

any mutually convenient day. Additionally, the company would also have a chance to interact with the students and gauge the quality of

aspirants interested in applying for the post.

Information about the company, brochures, pamphlets, research material or any research material which could be shared with the

students can be forwarded to the CMC which will ensure its dissemination to the students. The students could also be provided with live

case studies, contests, test, quizzes or any other form which the company may choose to conduct to be able to shortlist students (based

on discussion and approval by the CMC).

The college actively would like to invite industry representatives from your organization to conduct conferences and seminars at our

campus. These seminars could be organized by your company with respect to any scholarly, academic, informational or promotional

pursuits. WE School would like to discuss opportunities to conduct such Conferences with your organization on a regular basis.

Students at WE School have been extremely active and have executed live projects for organizations on an ongoing basis. This provides

students with an understanding of the company's operations and also aids companies to be able to execute projects with budding new

talent.

The Pre-Placement Talk

Recruitment Process

The placement process consists of the following stages:

• The company conducts a Pre Placement Talk

• The resumes of interested students are collected by the CMC and sent to the company

• The company sends a list of shortlisted students (if applicable)

• The company and will be informed by the CMC on the day on which the interviews will be conducted

• Selected students would be provided to the CMC which would inform the students of the same

A brief session conducted by the company, on campus, to inform the students about the organization. Companies are encouraged to give

pre-placement talks well before the recruitment process begins. This aids the student in making an informed decision about the

organization. Ideally, the PPT must include:

• Company Profile

• Projects on offer

• Compensation details

• Possible number of openings

We would request the company to inform about the recruitment process to be followed well in advance.

• Method of Recruitment (Preliminary test, GD, Case Interview, Personal/Group Interview etc)

• Number of GD rounds and group size
