INTRODUCTION

cancer patients present more free DNA in blood than healthy people.

in lung cancer this high levels shows a signal faster progression.

University bioengineers have developed a new method for rapidly producing an almost unlimited variety of human-made DNA sequences.

Novel sequences of recombinant DNA are used to produce repetitive proteins to create new types of drugs and bioengineered tissues

High levels of circulating DNA may signal faster progression of lung cancer

Science daily. February 2, 2011

-High levels of circulating DNA may indicate faster progression of lung cancer and lower overall survival.

-The study analyzed blood samples from 446 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer.-Levels of free human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) . as a surrogate of circulating DNA.

-Patients with the lower hTERT levels had higher overall survivalversus patients with higher hTERT. -DNA extraction and titration methods gives a strong reliability to their results.

STUDY ANALISIS

hTERT (telomerase reverse transcriptase) as a surrogate of DNA.

Were determinate before the planned start of combination.

Chemotherapy with cisplatin an doxetaxel.

Results.Patients with hTERT levels below 49.8 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml) had a median time to progression (TTP) of 6.3 months, compared with 4.9 months for patients with

hTERT of more than 49.8 ng/ml.

PERSONAL OPINION

Is interesting the different ways to identify some disease in this case with the lung cancer, I think that all this studios can explain us every day better the importance of the

DNA and common dangers which any person can get, also the

different kinds of markers to use and recognize what it is wrong,

how can we act, etc.

Human-Made DNA Sequences Made Easy: New Method for Rapidly Producing Protein-Polymers

Science daily. January 25, 2011

-Novel sequences of recombinant DNA -Are used to produce repetitive proteins -> new drugs and bioengineered tissues.

-Many protein-polymer based medications in use today.-Depending on how complicated you want the polymer sequence to be, there are an infinite number of combinations you could make.-New process overlap-extension

-This could help remove one of the biggest stumbling blocks we face in producing these drugs. -An example about it, is the rapidly synthesized novel glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1, is a hormone that acts to release insulin in the body) analogs to show variable pharmokinetic properties.

This new technique should be very useful in making a practically unlimited number of

these protein building blocks

This should help us to make large libraries of proteins, which we can use to rapidly

screen new combinations

The researchers used the system to synthesize genes found in two classes of

protein-polymers.

The research was supported by the National Institutes of Health.

PERSONAL OPINION

Technology is a good friend for the medicine because is thanks to her all the new advances. I

think that work with those methods, helps the medicine to

improve in different pharmacological aspects like

make better some drugs to help more the people with some

deficiencies , for example some analogs of glucagon or insulin.

• It is important because this process help the medicine evolution more and more, since some of this analogues are better and faster than other compounds.
