Did you draw a lot when you were young?
A lot. But I was playing dolls a lot too
Did you always believe you would become an artist one day?
Yes and no. It happened just like that, just giving it a try and how it goes. but when I started it was pretty much obvious
Your art feels mesmerising, childlike, pop, cool and joyful all once. I cant imagine any space it would not look amazing in!
As an artist do you aim to appeal to everyone?
Definitely not! If you look for your pictures anywhere other thyour imagination and your sensitivity you cannot be free any
You have a studio in Paris! Wowevery artists dream! Does Pkeep you creative?
As a matter of fact, I live in Le Marais (district of Paris) and mstudio is in Montreuil (close suburb). The gap is stimulating. in any case, I am always out of step because of my nationality
because I work during the night and get up around lunchtime
Have you got any exhibitions/collaborations coming up?
I have an exhibition in the parisian galerie www.sitdown.fr coup in November (oh... it will already be done...) but I always h
something coming up

eople often ask me wheremy interest in the sea comes
from. I dont need to explain therelevance of the ocean to most
[Australians]. I believe that theocean and its icons includingthe vessels that travel upon it, arefilled with an incredible sense ofdrama. The people portrayed inmy work are experiencing theirown personal, emotional andphysical dramas; the sea providesa wonderful arena upon whichthey can travel. The sea has itsown personality, the horizon itselfhas romance. You look at it andwonder what lies beyond

Where You Came FromSara OLeary
Illustrated by - Julie Morstad
This darling book is a follow up to an-other favourite When You Were Smalland is just as loved. Once again we are
besotted with little Henry who inquistiveby nature asks his parents Where did Icome from? and we take delight in the
wonderful imaginative responses from his
parents. Mum and Dad take turns tellingHenry a series of playful stories, tellinghim he was carved out of wood, spotted inthe sale bin at the supermarket, deliveredin the mail with no return address, andmore. The tone is gentle and sometimes alittle cheeky and beautifully illustrated.
The Clever Stick John Lechner
This little stick has always been clever; hecan solve maths problems, enjoys poetry, ponders music from the birds and enjoysthe beauty that comes from the rose. Theonly problem is he lacks the voice to sharehis thoughts and ideas with the rest of theforest so they just seem him as a stick. The little stick is disheartened that he hasno voice. The sweet and simple illustra-tions will draw the young reader in andthe wonderful message that no matterhow small someone is they deserved to beheard. This charming story of self discov-ery and of finding ones voice is definitely
a favourite of ours.

race or draw the design onto paper with black pen (so you can see the lines easilywhen you trace it onto fabric!) You can copy and print our design or get someone smalln your house to draw something special.
Now take the paper you just traced your design onto and tape it onto a clean, brightwindow. Make sure that it is nice and straight. Next tape your doyley over the top of the
esign - being sure that the design thats peeping through is centred on the doyley - orn a spot that you like. Using the air fading embroidery marker, carefully trace youresign straight onto the right side of the doyley. Dont worry if you make little mistakess they will fade out! Trace all the lines.
Next get ready to stitch! Unscrew the embroidery hoop so that its in two pieces.ay the piece WITHOUT the screw onto a clean work surface. Drape your ready-to-mbroider doyley over this part of the hoop, so that the part of the design you want totart with is centred (or in a spot you have chosen!)
Now pop the other part of the hoop over the top, pushing it down firmly and carefully
o that it fits together neatly. Tighten the screw and pull the fabric until its taut.
hread your needle and start stitching! We used back-stitch and stem-stitch to stitchur fox, but you can use any stitches you know or like.
he embroidery floss has 6 tiny strands, making up one thick strand, and you caneparate these strands out, using only one strand for sketchy, finer details - or use aew or all the strands for a bolder line. Its quite hard to thread the needle with ALL thetrands though!
Un-screw the hoop and move your fabric around as you need to, to finish each line.ome parts of the design might not fit easily into the hooped area - just stitch thosearefully without the hoop. Tie off your floss as neatly and firmly as you can at the backf your work as you go. Remember the marker fades out - so stitch it all up in a day oro, unless you want to retrace later!
When you are done, carefully press your work with a cloth over the top to protect thosepecial stitches. You can frame your finished work, give it to someone special or use it atour next tea party!
