A Message from the Principal Dear Families,
Lord,
Help me to be grateful, for the students who like to learn, and feel challenged by those who don’t.
Help me to be thankful, for the students I love, and understand those I’m learning to love.
Help me be motivated, by the students who learn to think, and committed to those afraid to try.
Help me to be inspired, by the students who choose right over wrong, and patient with those who lack the courage.
Help me to be gentle, with the students who make mistakes, and learn to forgive a difficult child.
Help me be committed, for the students who are responsible, and be persistent with those who value nothing.
Help me be faithful in the days of discouragement, and be dedicated to making one child smile.
Amen Congratulations to all those involved in the Sacrament of Reconciliation last week. In total there were 48 candidates with many from our school community. This Sunday, we celebrate the Sacrament of First Communion. Congratulations: Laurence, Arellano, Adeline Coco, Davin Gilligan, Kayden Mendes, Karys Sheridan, Daniel Liberato, Lachlan Doherty, Johan Siby, Gianne Gaspar, William Stokes, Max and Phoebe Hennessy, Molly King, Francesca Hilario, Darius and Luca Krajsek and, Sienna and Kylie Ammerlaan. We thank Father Dave, Emma McDonald
and Steve O’Shannessy for their work in preparing all candidates from our parish. We continue to pray for Amata De Zylva who is preparing for her First Holy Communion and her brother Isidore as he prepares for his Confirmation. Both will be completing their sacraments at St Francis.
Last Friday, teaching and support staff participated in important day for Catholic Identity. Each year, the CEO provides one day a year for this purpose. Sister Nuria Miro presented to us Godly Play, with focus on the Holy Family. This was a wonderful opportunity for our staff to gather for important reflection and prayer. In addition to this, we were invited to participate in some great activities that allowed us to learn a little more about each other. Our day concluded with a liturgy presented by Bishop Charles Gauci and Father Dave Callaghan. I specially thank Mrs Emma McDonald for her work in coordinating this important day for staff.
I wish to acknowledge the work of Alicia McManus (Inclusion Support Coordinator) and Lyndell Williams (Inclusion Support Practioner) in their work this year. They continue to work closely with all families of our students requiring additional support. On Monday, both Alicia and Dell presented at their CEO Network Meeting the work and additional programs we have in place this year. Not only do Alicia and Dell work closely with our students, they support and upskill our ISA’s also. Well done to you both in your work. AFL Primary Challenge concludes tomorrow afternoon with Holy Spirit playing against Holy Family in the grand final. The grand final to be played at TIO, number two oval. No matter the result, I congratulate the entire team for their commitment and enthusiasm each and every week. To our families also for your support; greatly appreciated. I especially thank Kat Kainulainen for the great photos each week.
On Friday, our Year 6 students and staff will be travelling to Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School for Catholic Schools’ Public Speaking
Competition. Our Year 6 representative is Nyasha Mandivheyi. Nyasha will present a prepared speech and following this, an impromptu. We wish him well on Friday. While our Year 6 students are out at Mother Teresa, our Year 5 students will be participating in a retreat as coordinated by the NET Team.
Throughout this term we have been fortunate to have Lilly Jarrett and John Kensey complete their pre-service teacher placement at our school. We congratulate them both oncompleting their final placement. I thank Miss Veronica Niland and Miss Sinead Walsh in taking our pre-service teachers this year. A reminder about Crazy Hair Day tomorrow. All hair to be prepared at home as opposed to school. A gold coin donation for all participating. We look forward to seeing some amazing styles in the morning.

PASTORAL CARE AND WELLBEING
Student, staff and family wellbeing is a focus and priority here at Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School. To keep you all informed, we are providing weekly updates regarding wellbeing, including support policy and procedures that we have in place here at Holy Spirit.
In November 2018, the Australian Government, in partnership with Beyond Blue, launched Be You, an online platform that provides educators with tools and strategies to support the mental health and wellbeing in our school. More information about this will be included in our newsletter each week.
Our Vision and Mission Statement is central to our school when implementing policy and procedures.
We encourage you to take the time each week to discuss this as a family. Please do not hesitate in speaking with classroom teachers or members of our Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Team for clarification.
Kind Regards,
Sinèad, Dell, Mary, Ashe-Leigh, & Paula Pastoral Care & Wellbeing Team
Holy Spirit Vision and Mission Statement Holy Spirit Catholic community is inspired by the gift of the Catholic story and tradition, encouraging all members to live, to love and to grow in Christ.
Holy Spirit Catholic School is committed to developing the fundamental value of each person. Through sharing and living the Catholic story and tradition, we foster learning that enables students, families, school and community to engage in a collaborative partnership for a life-long journey of education.
Our students learn in an atmosphere which integrates Gospel values with their life and learning. They are valued as unique individuals working to achieve their potential - spiritually, academically and socially.
Our teachers are committed to providing a quality Catholic education based on Gospel values in partnership with the parish and parents/carers. Their priority is to support students achieving their potential.
Update 14: Making Jesus Real (MJR) Making Jesus Real is a ready-made resource that can be used across the primary grade levels. It can be used to immediately address specific issues or to allow students the ability to discuss and reflect upon values and virtues that are fundamentally based on Gospel Values. All students and staff are familiar with MJR and can speak to this. Professional development continues to take place with our staff around this. Mrs Emma McDonald, our Religious Education Coordinator works closely with us all in support of this. Making Jesus Real is a values education resource. MJR is centred on the belief that we are all God’s children and are called to try to be like Jesus Christ in the way we live. We are Jesus’ friends. He calls us into friendship with God and he calls us to imitate his way of living. Making Jesus Real is aligned with Religious Education curriculums and Values Education programmes. MJR values include respect, honesty and trustworthiness, understanding, tolerance and inclusion. They focus on the Gospel Values of compassion, justice, humility and forgiveness. These values also encourage students to do their best, treat others fairly, be responsible for their actions, and follow principles of moral and ethical conduct and stand up for others against bullying. MJR promotes positive language and actions for both the classroom and playground. You may at times here your child speak of the W.E.S.T person (Welcoming, Encouraging, Sorry and Thanks). Each week through assembly we acknowledge and identify students who display MJR qualities. We take the time at the end of each week to share ‘Where we see the Spirit of Jesus’ in our homes, school community and beyond. Please take the time to speak with your child this week about MJR to gain an insight into their thoughts and understandings about this valuable resource/program.
