Principal’s Reflection
3 April, 2019
Week 10, Term 1
Dear Families,
We pray for our students who will be making their first Reconciliation-
Charlotte Bush, Leyla McLaughlin, Matthea Regulano, Anastasia
Thomas, Leonardo Prandi, Lachlan Doherty, Peyton McMahon, Xavier
Ellis, Aidan Ellis and Zariah Chisholm.
This year Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School celebrates it’s 40-year anniversary. To
celebrate this milestone the school will be holding a special celebration on Friday 7th June, which corresponds
with our school feast day. On the day all members of the community past and present will be welcomed to enjoy
the celebrations. The day will begin with mass at the Holy Spirit Parish Church, followed by morning tea and a
display of school memorabilia, which includes every class and staff photo from 1979 to present. The day also
involves fun events for students and families. Please keep this date free so that you can be part of the
celebrations. More details will follow in coming weeks.
A reminder that next Wednesday, 10th April, we are having our “Crazy Sock
and Shoe Day” to raise money for Project Compassion. Students are
encouraged to wear their Crazy socks and Shoes and bring along a gold coin
donation. Spray cans and gel containers are not permitted at school.
We are still seeking donations for our Easter raffle. All donations can be dropped off at the office. If you would
like to assist in helping coordinate ticket selling or wrapping the Easter raffle, please let the front office know.
The raffle will be drawn next week.
God bless you all and keep you safe,
Mr. Simon Duffy
Principal

LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOW Year 3/4, Rm. 17 with Mr. O
Room 17 students are developing a sense of wonder and
appreciation of plants as they investigate the processes of
pollination and germination, the stages in a plant’s life cycle
and environmental conditions that plants need for growth.
“Pollination works when the anthers (male part of plant) has
pollen on it. First these plants are brightly coloured to attract
insects towards them. Next an insect comes along and drinks
the nectar. It rubs its wings against the anthers so pollen gets
stuck on them. When the insect moves around some of the
pollen falls on the stigma (female part of plant) and flows down
a tube called style. Finally the pollen lands in the ovary and
makes fruits or seeds.” - Francesca, Yr. 3

PASTORAL CARE & WELLBEING
Student, staff and family wellbeing is a focus and priority here
at Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School. To keep you all
informed, we have decided to include weekly updates regarding
wellbeing, as well as support policy and procedures that we
have in place here at Holy Spirit.
In November last year, the Australian Government, in
partnership with Beyond Blue, recently launched Be You, an
online platform that provides educators with tools and strategies
to support the mental health and wellbeing in our school. More
information about this will be included in our newsletter each
week.
Our Vision and Mission Statement is central to our school when
implementing policy and procedures to our school. A copy of
this statement is provided below.
We encourage you to take the time each week to discuss this as
a family. Please do not hesitate in speaking with classroom
teachers or members of school leadership for clarification.
Kind Regards, Kelsey, Fiona, Dell, Sinéad, Mary & Paula
Pastoral Care & Wellbeing Team

students achieving their potential.
PC&WB Update 6:
Blue Buddy Card
Blue Buddy Card is a process/procedure in place for all
classroom/specialist teachers to utilise when a student requires
some reflection time away from their class. Where a student
receives a Blue Buddy Card they are sent to their identified
buddy class. For students receiving a Blue Buddy Card a down
Class DoJo may be recorded. Through Blue Buddy Card
students are provided:
5- 15 minutes cool down time
An opportunity to complete school work
Time to complete Reflection Sheet
Blue Buddy Card is not available during Homework Centre
(HWC) or Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) as these sessions
take place before and after school hours. Where a student is
required to have some time to reflect on behavioural choices;
supervisors from centre/s will provide the time and space for
students to sit and reflect on their choices. Supervisors from
respective centres will keep parents/carers informed of this as
the need arises.
