FOREWORD The population data shown in this report are based on records of residents registered with Manitoba Health as at June 1, 2014. Data for the regions include population of cities, towns, villages, rural municipalities, local government districts, and unorganized territories. It should be noted that villages and towns are separately identified if these are incorporated. If unincorporated, the population counts are included in the rural municipality in which these are located. Population for small areas (for example, a rural town) can be biased because the mailing address may be reported as the place of residence. An individual residing outside the town, but having a mailing address there, may be counted as living within the town. This bias in the population figures is reduced as the catchment area increases. Thus, regional estimates are not significantly affected by the mis-classification bias. Fluctuations from year to year for these small areas might also be affected by changes to mail delivery locations assigned by Canada Post. The type of place indicates First Nations, unorganized territory, and municipal status of incorporated places (city, town, village, rural municipality, and local government district). The following list indicates the abbreviations used for types of places: FN First Nation Band LGD Local Government District - a designated area having no local government; administered by the province through a

POPULATION REPORTING CHANGES Internal improvements affecting population reporting have enabled more appropriate identification of on-reserve residents of some First Nations communities, as of the 2012 population reports. Current-year and five-year populations for RHA Districts were tabulated using the RHA District definitions current as of June 1st, 2014. Due to prior reporting changes, seven former municipalities last appear separately from municipalities they amalgamated with in population data for 2009: the villages of Garson and Powerview; for the towns of Gimli, Killarney, and Shoal Lake; and the RMs of Shellmouth and Park North. As the 2014 population reports do not contain population data for years prior to 2010, these municipalities do not appear in the 2014 population reports, and will not appear in future population reports.
MUNICIPAL AMALGAMATIONS During the period November 2013 to May 2014 inclusive, a series of municipal amalgamations were enacted. These amalgamations came into effect as of January 1st, 2015. Because these amalgamations take effect after the date on which population was enumerated, the populations for the amalgamated municipalities will be implemented in the 2015 population reports. These changes to district definitions, like the municipal amalgamations which made them necessary, will be implemented in the 2015 population reports. To assist in the transition to the revised district geography, however, we are also providing 2014 district populations using the revised districts as an appendix to these reports.

Population Changes The purpose of this section is to highlight changes in t he population of Manitoba. Changes are determined by comparing the regi stration file for the current year to that of the previous y ear. A file is created for additi ons (residents on the current file but not on the previous file) and one for deletions (residents on the previous file and not on the current file). Af ter determining reason for coverage or cancellation, those coded as deaths, births and other (1) are separated, leaving only arrivals and departures. The delet ions are subtracted from the additions with a resulting net migration. Figures 1a, 1b, and 1c depict the actual number of residents cancelled from the registration system upon notification of death during the period June 1, 2013 to June 1, 2014. Figures 1b and 1c are female and male profiles. Figures 2a, 2b, and 2c repr esent population migration. In-migration and out-migration with a resulting net migration trend line are depicted. Manitoba gained population through in-migration between June 1, 2013 and June 1, 2014. T here were 30,810 in-migrants and 12, 929 out-migrants resulting in a net in-migration of 17,881. Figures 2b and 2c are the female and male trends. (1) Member of the Armed Forces, inmate of a penitentiary, or not located.

APPENDIX
MUNICIPAL AMALGAMATIONS IN PRAIRIE MOUNTAIN HEALTH AND SOUTHERN HEALTH-SANTÉ SUD
During the period November 2013 to May 2014 inclusive, a series of municipal amalgamations were enacted. These amalgamations came into effect as of January 1st, 2015. Because these amalgamations take effect after the date on which population was enumerated, the populations for the amalgamated municipalities will be implemented in the 2015 population reports. Due to these changes, there are two instances where the municipality formed by the amalgamation crosses the border between two of the RHA districts defined for Manitoba’s current RHAs. As RHA districts normally follow municipality boundaries where appropriate and feasible, changes to the boundaries for the four affected RHA districts have been identified. The changes to the district definitions are as follows: The municipality of Yellowhead, created by amalgamating the former Shoal Lake and Strathclair municipalities,
will be entirely in the Little Saskatchewan district of Prairie Mountain Health. This change will move the former RM of Shoal Lake from the South Asessippi district into the Little Saskatchewan district.
The municipality of Lorne, created by amalgamating the former Lorne, Notre Dame de Lourdes, and Somerset municipalities, will be entirely in the Southern Health-Santé Sud district of Lorne/Louise/Pembina. This change will move the former Village of Notre Dame de Lourdes from the Notre Dame/St Claude district (which will be renamed to Grey post-amalgamation) into the Lorne/Louise/Pembina district.
These changes to district definitions, like the municipal amalgamations which made them necessary, will be implemented in the 2015 population reports. To assist in the transition to the revised district geography, however, we are also providing 2014 district populations using the revised districts as an appendix to these reports.
