“FROM BATH TO SPATrends and Visions”
TASK
Changes in the social structure and needs have led to the bathroom not only being purely used as a functional space, but also as a room to relax and feel good.
From the ancient wet room the bathroom has evolved into an area where one can fall back and withdraw. Nowadays, the bathroom is not seen as a separate room, but is planned within the design and layout of bedrooms. The bathroom can now be seen as a haven or as a source of refreshment. Besides the feel-good aspect, accessibility is becoming an essential criterion in the planning and building of bathrooms.
Today, no one is excluded and no one has to abstain from a soothing bathroom experience because of mobility problems caused by accident or age.
Another important issue affecting Spas and bathrooms is the topic of water and water usage. The sustainable use of this precious resource is therefore becoming increasingly important and should therefore also be the focus of innovative thinking in terms of “bathroom of the future”.
Design the bathroom of the future.
BÅS
RESEARCH
TARGET GROUP
Next to the growing population of wealthy and educated people, we discovered newer and much more complex sub-groups of society. We felt that it was our responsibility to design a concept to support and strengthen the lifestyles of the newer, trendier groups of society.
BÅS
Extensive reaserch led to the finding that we are living in a DIY generation which is driven by individualisation and customisation. With over 7 billion people on earth, the need to “stand out” is becoming more important.
With the rise of the population in cities, the trend towards open- airy living environments and lofts is on the rise.
CONCEPT
A combination of Nature and Modularity: BÅS is built of a variety of individual elements, thus offering a broad range of options to the user.
The concept is meant to be a flexible, smart and ecological solution for the bathroom of the future home- a modular system that allows the user to create a personalised and individualised atmosphere.
BÅS eliminates the need for in-wall installations and provides an expandable room concept with infinite possibilities.
BÅS is designed to alleviate problems in modern living environments. By constructing our concept from the ground up, we have not only managed to create a new and innovative way to customize and personalize the bathroom, but it has been made possible to hide all installations and mechanics, offering a pure and elementary feeling.
BÅS
CONSTRUCTION
A wide array of selected materials and the possibility of customisation help to create the feeling of an in home oasis.
A base panel fabricated of EPP plastic is designed to house the installations. Designed with a clever connection and a plug-and-play system, cables and pipes can be installed and secured without much trouble . With a butterfly connector system, several base elements can be linked together to form islands (an individual oasis).
A sealed wood floor supported by a steel frame covers the installations. The interior is thus protected from weight and water.
The system is designed to be customised further through the addition of features and elements.

IDEATION
BÅS completely redefines the bathroom ambiance. Simple in design yet emotionally powerful.
The decision was taken to design the bathroom features as if they would grow up from the ground. By playing with the flow of water it was possible to create a new form of bathroom experience.
The choice of materials suggests contrast. Dark wood and earthy colors mixed with matte whites and clear glass, a mix of edgy and geometrical forms with soft and smooth transitions.
BÅS
DESIGN LANGUAGE
Taking inspiration from nature the design of BÅS was heavily influenced by the organic shape of leaves and grass and by the fluid, uncontrollable movement of water
BÅS
ELEMENTS
Different wood panels are manufactured and used for the respective elements. Each panel is created to support different weights and to fullfil different tasks.

THE PROBLEMThe appearance and impact of new mobility is becoming more homogenous, emotionless and unexpressive. The emotion and feeling of the driving experience seems to be disappearing
TASK

THE EXPERIENCEPURITY Less is more - optimisation to the bare essentials is the essence.
PERFORMANCE It’s only the performance at the wheel that counts. Performance is determined by the overall package of weight, handling, power and the ideal tuning of all components.
ADVENTURE Motorcycling is an adventure. Courage, curiosity and the commitment to leave your own limits behind you.
EXTREME Normal is too risky; passion is not enough. Only extreme commitment delivers outstanding results.
THE EXPERIENCETHE EXPERIENCETHE EXPERIENCETHE EXPERIENCE
A GROWING GOLD MINE. Part of the task was to define a new traget group for KTM.
Having assessed and researched KTM and it’s product portfolio, it became clear that KTM was not catering to the fastest growing demographic group of the 21st Century; the E-Sports gamer.
RESEARCH
eXP
E-Sports has been around since the early 1970s but has only just become popular as of late, due to the extential media coverage through websites like Youtube.com and Twitch.tv.
In 2014, the Leage of Legends world championship finals had over 32 million viewers (6 million more than the NBA Finals).
The gaming industry is expected to make 114 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2015 (up from 100 billion in 2014).
There are over 1.8 billion gamers wordwide.
CONCEPT
HYPER REALITY IS THE CHALLENGE.KTM eXP is the future of extreme motorcycling.
Virtual and augmented reality can be found in consumer grade electronics and in the video game industry and allow for a new, deeper immersion into virtual worlds.
In motorcycle racing, it mainly comes down to individual ability. KTM eXP, however, like many video games today, is a team sport.
The game is played out in a special bike park called “The Zone”. With skillful coordination of your team and with the use of well executed abilities, a virtual “boss” can be defeated.
The electric motorcycles are seen as the game console on which the game is played. Apart from their physical appearance, whilst “ingame”, they can be customised with any virtual fairing imaginable which are visualised on the heads up display in the visor of the helmet. This facilitates a whole new way to customise ones bike and biking gear.

TECHNOLOGY
Voice Controlled Interface
What sets CYC apart from other virtual reality glasses is the combination of existing technology and efficient execution packaged into a usable and functional motorcycle helmet.
At it’s core, CYC uses a NVIDIA Tegra X1 processing unit. The X1 packs a massive punch for it’s size: 8-core CPU, 256-core GPU at under 10 watts of power.
In order to communicate with the operating system/UI, teammates and foes, CYC has an embedded microphone and integrated bone conduction hearing pads. Bone conduction hearing not only offers clear and true sound but allows the user to hear what is going on around him in case of danger.

ELECTRONIC HAND-HELD
TOOL
Single projectOctober - Janruary 2013/14
“How will hand-held tools look in 2020?”
TASK
The segment of power tools has steadily evolved over the past few years. The classical power drill and jig saw faces stiff competition by new and innovative products. Breakthroughs in oscillation technology and the progression in battery pack efficiency have allowed for new designs and applications. For this new generation of hand-held tools, ergonomics and usability play a crucial role in the design and construction. Emphasis has to be placed on the right corporate design to make the product unique and to allow it to stand out from the competition.
The goal of the project was to create an innovative electric hand tool for the DIY enthusiast of the year 2020. The concept had to be fresh and original suggesting a new interpretation of the term power tool.
The design centers around form and function of a hand tool with special consideration being given to handling and feel. Sustainability in the ecological and social sense are also an aspect to be addressed.
MONTI
RESEARCH
Laminating, whilst being around for nearly 70 years, hasn’t seen much development in the sense of innovation. From the production of the first series of fiberglass boats and cars back in the 1950s, to the most complex and technolgically advanced carbon race cars, wind generators and planes of the 21st Century, most, if not all laminating has been done by hand.
Laminating composite materials on a small scale is a time consuming and extremely dirty task. Manual mixing of resins may lead to uneven curing, manual application of resins and fibers may lead to over-saturated layers, and sticky fingers. While there have been developments in the choice of materials, such as the combination of composites, the production of natural and eco-friendly composites and resins, and the implementation of “pre-preg” laminates, there has been little to no progress in the automation of the lamination process itself.
MONTI
CORE IDEA
Laminating made easy. MONTI is a composite laminating tool for for the amateur and professional model builders. It’s open, lightweight and ergonomic design enables effortless maneuverability on any surface.

IDEATION
The development of MONTI is based on years of personal experience handling fiberglass and resin. Manual laminating is time consuming and problems with inaccurate mixing and uneven curing are inevitable. As of personal experience I consider the sticky fingers the most annoying aspect.
MONTI is designed to be used with one hand and with only one button. Fingers are also protected from contact with pre-laminated layers.
MONTI
TECHNOLOGY
MONTI is designed for use with “pre-preg” laminates.
Pre-preg is a term for “pre-impregnated” composite fibers, where a matrix material, such as epoxy resin, is already applied. This means that in order to start the curing process, one must only add a hardener or catalyst. MONTI does this by pre-incorporating nano capsules into its composite rolls, which melt under heat and expose the curing agent.
The concept revolves around the quick swapping of composite rolls and clean, effortless laminating. To support the quick-swap function, MONTI is designed with a hubless wheel. This facilitates the quick removal of composite rolls and shortens cleaning times.

“Sustainable design and production”
PHILOSOPHY
Bamboo code is the name of the product line of my boards and longboards which I started making in 2010 after feeling the withdrawal of the ocean and the waves beneath my feet. Being the founder, designer, creater and tester of Bamboocode and it’s skateboards, I took it upon me to do something different. The vision and dream driving Bamboocode is to create an eco-friendly and sustainable experience.
Every board is special and unique, and the input of the customer is appreciated in the design and technical execution. Not only does it allow for customisation and personalisation, but it creates a special level of trust between the producer, the customer and the product. Bamboocode is built up of trust and experience, but mainly upon the small community of riders that allow Bamboocode to grow without advertisments, websites or media.
