On October 4th, 2010 the Forsyth County

Detention Center became one of the first

county jails in the state to offer routine

opt-out HIV and syphilis testing at the

intake area of the jail. This was made

possible through a grant from the NC

Department of Health and Human Ser-

vices to the Forsyth County Department

of Public Health. The Health Depart-

ment is contracting with Correct Care

Solutions, Inc. to administer the testing

at the jail on a 24 hours, 7 days per week

basis. In addition, inmates volunteer to

attend HIV/STI Health Education Ses-

sions led by Patricia Donaldson of the

POSSE Team each week.

On Saturday, June 26th, 2010,POSSE and the Tru-LegacyRyderz Motorcycle Clubteamed-up in support ofNational HIV Testing Day.The purpose of this outreachwas to encourage the commu-nity to “know their status” bygetting tested. The event washeld in the parking lot of theSave-a-Lot Store on Martin Lu-ther King Drive in EastWinston. There was a bikeshow, food, prize give-a-ways,and FREE HIV and SyphilisTesting on our new POSSEMobile Unit. WSSU studentsalso volunteered with POSSEfor this event.

POSSE has participated in theWinston-Salem State Home-coming Parade for the past fewyears as an innovative approachto outreach. The POSSE Teamand volunteers have reachedover 3000 people in this out-reach activity by providing in-formation, HIV/STI awareness,POSSE program branding anddistributing resources for dis-ease prevention measures. Thelarge crowds attending the pa-rade are very receptive and ap-preciative of the POSSE Team’sefforts to prevent the ongoingspread of STI’s everywhere!
