PI Responsibilities

• Notify Grant Officer and Leadership of intent to submit grant in advance– Send URL and/or guidelines to above

• Download, Read and Follow instructions in RFA/PA and Application kit• Download and complete Grant Application kit– Fill out and attach .pdf or other files (per instructions) to the

application forms– Check for compliance with sponsor instructions – Font sizes, page limits, margins, etc.– Check instructions for file format type– Inclusion of all required forms

• Insure the application is final when submitted to OSP– Prints out in proper format– Proofread for typos and mistakes

• Includes required documentation from collaborators– Authorized budgets and letters of intent

• Error free per grants.gov error check or other methods

• Consultation and Guidance– Advance notice required– Be familiar with Program Announcement/RFA/Sponsor rules– Be available during normal business hours, Monday through

Friday• Budget– Review and Approve PI-prepared budget– Approve for compliance with ECU and sponsor guidelines and

regulations– Inclusion and correction application of F&A– Documents supporting F&A exceptions

• Administrative Info– Check administrative pages for correct information– Applicant name, address, contact info– Representation and Certification pages

• Application Submission– Authorized Officials for Electronic Submission– Authorized Officials for Hard Copy/Paper Submissions

• OSP up and running database: Early February

• Electronic Proposal Routing: Early February– Phased in by Department– Data Entry performed locally, not OSP

• TO DO NOW:– Identify the users in your areas• Notify OSP Grant Officer

– Visit demo site and play• Contact OSP Grant Officer for more information

• What will RAMSeS do for me now?– Electronic proposal routing– Searchable database– AdHoc and Canned reports– Centralize storage of all uploaded data– Accessible from anywhere as it’s web-driven

• What will RAMSeS do for me in the future?– Build grant application within RAMSeS– Submit proposals from RAMSeS to grants.gov

How do I qualify to sit for the exam? Experience

Must possess a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of substantial involvement in research or sponsored programs administration .

Exceptions ◦ MAY be granted upon petition and meeting the

minimum experience and education requirements of an Associate's Degree and six (6) years of experience OR eight (8) years of substantial experience in the sponsored programs/research administration field.

How Do I Become A CRA?

(1) submit an application which indicates they meet the criteria below,

(2) pay the examination fee ($195), (3) pass the examination
