VILLI AND ABSORPTIO
NSUBMITTED BYPRAVEENA.K.T
Small intestine seen as many folds _ twisted and coiled within the abdominal cavity.
Food particles move slowly through the small intestine.
A number of blood vessels are seen in the small intestine.
INTRODUCTION
Inner surface of the small intestine is modified into many foldings.
Within these ,finger – shaped villi are seen.
Intestinal villi ,are small finger-like projections _ protrude from the epithelial lining of the intestinal wall .
40 to 50 villi are seen .
Nutrients are absorbed .
The infoldings of the small intestine and the villi increase the surface area for absorption.
Villi increase the internal surface area of the intestinal walls.
Increased surface area allows increased intestinal wall area ,for absorption.
Increased absorptive area _ digested nutrients pass into the semipermeable villi through diffusion
ABSORPTION
The arteries and veins spread through the walls of the small intestine.
Network of capillaries _ a group of blood vessels that connects arteries and veins.
Lacteal _ lymph vessel in the small intestine.
The food particles formed as a result of digestion :
A) Glucose and amino acids absorbed in the blood.
B) Glycerol absorbed in the lymph.
