ABOUT THE AUTHORMadhavikutty(kamala das,kamala surrayya)(1932-2009)is the daughter of the famous malayalam poet ,Balamaniyamma and V.M.Nair.she is an internationally known poet,short story writer and novelist who writes effortlessly both in English and malayalam.she has received many awards for her literary work.some of them are ASIAN POETRY,KENT AWARD for english writing from Asian country,ASAN World prize,Academy Award and Vayalar Ramavarma Sahithya Award.

SUMMARYOn his way back from Thiruvananthapuram after

attending a meeting,Gopi visits his moher.The mother lives with her daughter Kamalam,a widow,who is elder

to Gopi.As Gopi opens the gate and enters the courtyard the mother sees him.though kamalam

explained her that it was Gopi,She could not recognise him.she has lost her memory and it troubles her to

recollect past events ,names etc.again and again the mother asks kamalam ahout the man who arrived

there.Gopi himself tries to make her understand .hearing the name Gopi,the mother asked

him whether he knew her son who was working in delhi.she requests him to tell her son to send her a

blanket.the one he had given her earlier become tattered.

Gopi nodded his head.kamalm put her mother to bed and came back to veranda. Infact Gopi had come there to speak her sister about selling his of the family property. He said that he had four children to look after and the salary alone wouldn’t suffice to make both the ends meet. Then the sister asks him wither he would come there after the deal is over.he remainds him that it is after five years he visits his mother.gopi said that Amma couldn’t remember who he was.’But do you remember your Amma?’asked kamalam.
