As a service to the community, Parents for Public Schools of Houston (PPSH) has assembled this Voters Guide to the 2011 HISD Board of TrusteesElections to be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. PPSH is nonpartisan and does not endorse any candidate. We distribute this information to aide
voters cast a more informed vote on November 8th
.
Four (4) Board of Trustee positions are up for election this year. In District II, Rhonda Skillern-Jones is unopposed and the declared winner. This
Guide focuses on the three (3) contested races, although it also contains Ms. Skillern-Jones views. All HISD Board of Trustees are elected from
single member geographic districts with no at-large representatives. However, this election is important to everyone served by HISD. Please be aninformed citizen so that you can vote for the benefit of all HISD children.
Our Guide is a comprehensive text including all data collected from all races. You are encouraged to visit the HISD website for specific information
regarding district boundaries. You are also invited to attend a candidates forum sponsored by PPSH.

PPSH invited each candidate to answer 18 questions. Responses to Questions 1-12 were limited to one (1) word answers. Questions 13-15 wereshort answers, without limits to length. Questions 16-18 were limited to a 50 word response and are reproduced exactly as submitted by the
candidates up to that limit. PPSH did not change or edit responses in any way. A response of NR means a response was not received at time of
publication.

and make sure that parents are informed of the immediate corrective measures and actions that administrators, and educators are taking. Parentsmust always feel as if they are

Parent and teacher participation is essential in transforming a school's culture, and students must have access to academic rigor, outstanding
teachers, and tutoring if necessary. The community must also be attracted to the program. As for Apollo, I will determine if it is working by
applying a standard cost-benefit analysis.
