1 Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus O most holy heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins I offer you this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you. Protect me in the midst of danger. Comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen. Principal visit to Classrooms Oh, it is good to be home at school and not be travelling anywhere. Throughout my walkthroughs this week I visited Year Three and Four classes. In Year Three, the students were busy writing in their weekly journals. Writing regularly in journals provides students with opportunities to not only refine their skills in spelling, punctuation, grammar but to experience purpose for writing. However, the most significant benefit of journal writing is that it allows students to express themselves in writing without the pressure they might experience when completing writing projects. I don’t have enough room for everyone, so I have included a couple of journal entries to share with you all. Well done, Abbi, Fergus and all the students in Year Three. “On the weekend I‘m going to watch the Swifts play netball in Sydney. For the first night I think I will be sleeping in a motel and then I will go to my grandpa’s apartment. I might see my Aunty Dominique. I am extremely excited! I can’t wait but I am sad that I am leaving my friends Claudia and Aryellah. Good bye, Abbi!” “The competition I would want to enter is ....thinking...The competition I would want to enter is an eating one. That means first round of donuts and second round will be KFC chicken. The third round would be lollies! It would be a yummy competition. By Fergus. In my Year Four visit I had the opportunity to see students developing their skills in writing Diamante poems. A diamante poem is a poem that makes the shape of a diamond. In the poems, the subject is named in one word in the first line. The second line consists of two adjectives describing the subject, and the third line contains three verbs ending in the suffix -ing which are related to the subject. A fourth line then has four nouns, again related to the subject, but only the first two words are related to the first subject. The other two words describe the opposite subject. The lines then are put in reverse, leading to and relating to either a second subject or a synonym for the first. Look at what these clever children have written!

Principal visit to Classrooms

Oh, it is good to be home at school and not be travelling anywhere. Throughout my walkthroughs this week I visited Year Three and Four classes. In Year Three, the students were busy writing in their weekly journals. Writing regularly in journals provides students with opportunities to not only refine their skills in spelling, punctuation, grammar but to

experience purpose for writing.

For

the first night I think I will be sleeping in a motel and then I will go to my

grandpa’s apartment. I might see my Aunty Dominique. I am extremely

excited! I can’t wait but I am sad that I am leaving my friends Claudia and

Aryellah. Good bye, Abbi!”

“The competition I would want to enter is ....thinking...The competition I

would want to enter is an eating one. That means first round of donuts and

second round will be KFC chicken. The third round would be lollies! It would

be a yummy competition. By Fergus.

In my Year Four visit I had the opportunity to see students developing their skills in writing Diamante poems. A diamante poem is a poem that makes

the shape of a diamond. In the poems, the subject is named in one word in the first line. Written by Haramrit Written by Isabella State of Origin Night June 5th

This week is the big event for parents and friends to support the school and CancerAssist in Griffith. Parents and friends don’t let this opportunity slip by. I know it is easy to stay home and watch the game but consider how your presence will make a difference by coming out to the theatre and watching the game on the big screen. The students are encouraged to support the State of Origin Day by wearing their school uniform with an addition of blue or maroon colours. On Wednesday 5

th June, students may wear a blues or maroon jersey top over their uniform, or a

blues or maroons hat, scarf or ribbons. It is not a free dress day! The students need to bring a gold coin to school. All funds raised will go towards CanAssist and the P&F.

Year Six Students proudly presented their Home Work projects:

To complete the week, it was a pleasure to have students from, Year Six visit me. The students in Year Six proudly displayed their completed home work projects. Well done team! Thanks for reading and may the force continue to be with the mighty Maroons this Wednesday night! Have a great week! David May the Lord bless you and take care of you;

May the Lord be kind and gracious to you;

May the Lord look on you with favour and give you peace.

Yours,

David

Reflection During my interactions and engagements with the students in 705 class in their teaching and learning experiences this week, I am reminded of the importance on reflection on our our learning. Questions such as “ What was good about what we did?” and “What could we do differently next time?” have elicited some powerful responses. University Students We welcome Miss Elisha Taylor as a lead learner and teacher of 605 class until Friday 21

st June. I thank Miss

Carrie Spokes for her professional and enthusiastic mentoring. In the upcoming weeks we will be welcoming more University students to lead the learning in our classes, under the careful guidance of our teachers. The opportunity to help develop the future of our nation and our educators is a unique opportunity and one we embrace.

Before and After School Routine Our classrooms are welcoming and friendly learning environments. We invite you in the mornings before school to drop in briefly to see your child’s teacher to share important information and to build the relationship. If the teacher or you need a longer interview, then this is to be arranged through the front office. From 8.30am Children in K/1/2 are to drop their bag off and meet Mr. A-J outside the100 block. Students in Years 3-6 are to drop their bag outside their classroom and meet Mr. W on the bitumen basketball court outside the 600 block. The lining up bell rings at 8.50 am and all class rolls and lunch orders to the canteen are done by 9am.

Newsletter

We have experienced an increase in requests for a printed copy of our newsletter to be sent home. The requests now number 60 copies to be printed, individually labelled then students called out of learning time to collect the newsletter and then take it home. Due to the considerable administration time that this entails, and Bishop Hanna’s mandate that,”…schools have a moral imperative to practice decision making that is ecologically and ethically sustainable” from next week ( Monday 3

rd June) 30 copies of the newsletter will be printed and be available at the

front counter for parents/carers ( not students) to collect. The newsletter, along with a host of other information, is available at our school website: http://web.spgww.catholic.edu.au/ Twitter As an educational professional and parent, I have found much to learn about on Twitter as a professional resource. I try to and share interesting educational information on Twitter. I invite you to follow me. Search for @alanwedesweiler Wellbeing Committee Education and health support each other. NEITHER IS POSSIBLE ALONE. Together they serve as the foundation

for a better world and an opportunity to assist today’s students become tomorrow’s adults who are faith filled,

ethical and compassionate individuals, active and informed citizens, confident, creative and successful

learners.

To support this rationale, St. Patrick’s has had established for some time now a Wellbeing Committee. Our

committee meets every Wednesday from 1.30pm to 2pm and this committee is designed to provide a

systematic framework to assist our staff to meet the individual and group mental health and learning needs of

students.

Over the weekend three of our Year 3 students made their First Holy Communion. We congratulate and continue to pray for Jayden Quinn, Jaimee Martinello & Xavier Serafin. We have 63 Year 3 students who will be making their First Holy Communion on the weekend of June 15

th / June 16

th. We will keep these students and

their families in our prayers as they continue to prepare for this great Sacrament. This Friday we will celebrate the feast day of the Patron of our Parish, the Sacred Heart. There will be a Mass at 9.30am to which all families are very welcomed. This feast reminds us of God’s love for us. We ask that we be sent forth with courage to live what we pray for and what we profess. May we seek justice, make peace, grow in love, enjoy life, other people and your world. Ann Friedlieb.

Help wanted: Anyone able or interested in helping make up arrangements for the Church for Holy Communion Masses[Flowers have been donated] please contact Anna in the Parish office Tues-Fri 9-2pm on 69621533

Pastoral Care Dear members of our school community, This coming Friday, 7th June, we will be celebrating the feast of the Sacred Heart . This feast day, reminds us of the greatest gift we have received from God: the gift of himself in His son Jesus. Feast days are special days in the church’s calendar and in our own lives as Catholics. As our parish is named in honour of the Sacred Heart, we celebrate together this feast day in a special way. We pray for strong and loving leadership within our school, our parish and especially in our families, because the family is where leadership, love and caring service begins. Please join us in the celebration of mass this Friday. 7 am, 9:30 am (whole school mass) and 5:30 pm. Cath Catanzariti. Pastoral Care Coordinator.

Frequently Asked Questions – Report and Interview

How much time does my child spend on each subject? English and Mathematics make up about 50% of a school week. This equates to at least 12hours a week. There are many different ways for teachers organise the lesson content effectively. You can talk to your child’s teacher about what they expect to cover in class and how you can help your child at home. What about the other subject areas? They are spread across the remaining time in class and will often take on an integrated approach. What is an Integrated Unit of work? Your child’s teacher may refer to ‘integrated units’ as part of their class program. ‘Integration’ means that material from more than one syllabus is being taught in a single unit of work. For example, designing, making, writing and illustrating a short book of stories could involve parts of the English syllabus, the Science and Technology syllabus and the Creative Arts syllabus. EXAMPLE – Culture and Environment in Bali is an integrated unit HSIE: research Balinese culture including traditional dress and costumes, art, beliefs, environment, food, geography, history Mathematics: select appropriate technology to gather data, measure, graph using scale, 2D and 3D shapes Science and Technology: investigate environmental, cultural and safety factors to design and make a Balinese village English: learn how to write reports, summarise information gathered during research about Bali Creative Arts: design a passport for travel, design a mask or puppet, listen to traditional Balinese music and a Gamelan orchestra, learn about traditional dance PDHPE: develop team skills, problem solving in design and making, learn traditional games of Balinese children and compare them to Australian games and activities, host a ‘Balinese banquet’ Messages are getting lost from school to home. What do I do? It is important to keep up to date and informed with what is happening within a school and at home. Communication not only comes down to the teachers and parents responsibility. Your child plays an integral role and thrives when their voice is valued. Most of the time they have the knowledge of the information you require, it is important they be given this responsibility too. Remember, parents and teachers work together to help children want to learn and to help them gain self-confidence and self-discipline. Please keep up to date with information each week by reading the newsletter with your family and making the time to talk with your child about upcoming events in the school. An interview with your teacher is a really great place to start opening up the communication lines. Peter Moraschi and Sarah Ellis Curriculum Co-ordinators

Think about the last glass of water you drank… how old was it? This is one of the many questions we have been investigating in science. We have learnt that nature is the most amazing recycler! Through studying the water cycle we have discovered that all water has been on earth since the time of creation. We look forward to our upcoming field trip to Barren Box swamp to learn more about our local environment’s water resources and management.

Currently we, as a school community, are going through a process of review and affirmation of the particular

positive characteristics and/or gifts that exist at St Patrick's Primary School, Griffith. Staff and Year 6 students

have contributed to the gathering of responses. Any parent who wishes to take up the opportunity may

contribute to the gathering of information via the attached survey. The survey is voluntary and is asking for

comment in regard to things to celebrate about the school. Please return the survey to the school via email or

hand it in to the office staff personally by Friday of this week.

Celebrating what’s right with the world

Parent Survey • Why did you choose St Patrick’s Primary as the school for your

child(ren)?

• What makes St Patrick’s special?

• How is St Patrick’s Primary different from other schools in the

area?
