Page 2: Pre Production

These are some photos I found inspiring and was looking at for ideas for my own photo shoot. I chose to look at this band in particular as I think the photo’s fit the band themselves. The way they are posed but quite casual works well as the band are quite a laid back band themselves and I think it reflects the band style and look well.

I found some photos inspired me more than others, I like the layout of the black and white photo in the right corner as I think it draws your eyes in and would work well to catch reader attention. I think the picture in the bottom left corner would work well as a main cover image as the layout shows the whole band and it is quite a good image to catch your attention as it is quite light and could have cover lines fit around it quite effectively.

I chose these photos as I think they are all quite attention grabbing and reflect the band quite well. I like the different layouts in them, some looking more serious than others and think they would work well to attract different audiences depending on the individual photo and which one was used.

I particularly like the three pictures that run along the top of the page, I think the layout’s work well and suit the band as they are a metal/screamo band and the middle shot is quite a classic metal pose with the stretched image effect. I think the photo with the band on the car would work well as a cover image for a magazine as it is quite attention grabbing. I also like the image with the band with fireworks going off behind them as it is attention grabbing and stands out.

Most of the photos on here are bright and have quite bold colours on them which work well as it is eye catching to the reader. I also like the way not all the pictures are typical posed shots, they are action shots, and shots that aren’t always serious.

I particularly like the image of the band jumping, I think it works well and captures your attention well. I also like the picture at the bottom where the band are stood on pillars as its not just a typical posed image you see in magazines.

I also like the image of the band sat down at the top, I think the light works well in it and it is quite a casual image. I think the images work well and fit with the genre of the bands overall image.

These covers are from Kerrang! Magazine, a magazine that I have looked at for inspiration for my work.I like the style of Kerrang! as it is eye catching and instantly recognisable the photo shoot styles vary from each issue but the image overlapping the masthead is often seen with bold cover images it is quite a busy magazine that has a lot visually going on. The bold cover lines make it clear on the subjects/bands they are covering in each issue and I think the overall layout works well and has good saleability.

These are some initial ideas for the font I was looking at using for my masthead.

I want to create a magazine that looks at rock and metal bands so wanted a font that fitted with that genre.

These are some early masthead ideas for my magazine, I decided to use this font but wanted to look at different ideas for a name. I like the idea of using ROCK UK as although it is quite simple I think it could work well if I use UK only bands for my magazine as I feel there is a gap in the market for an exclusive UK rock magazine.
