PASTOR’S PEN You will have noticed the sign on the Convent saying “Centre for
Social Justice and Good Works”. Central to the entire Journey
project is to remember the past service in the Catholic
community to inspire us in the present to engage in Social Justice
and Good Works.
The Centre is a not-for-profit corporation under the
direction of a Board of Directors and staffed by Christina Coutu,
Executive Director. Through the development of partnerships, the
Centre has received grants from the Social Services Board and the
Bishop Carter Foundation and is developing programs in
Mentorship and Leadership for the community targeted for our
young people. Though a central aspect of the “Journey”, the
Centre is self-sufficient and has received no money from “the
Journey”. Contact information for the CSJGW is 705.450.4483
or ‘[email protected]’.
The grand opening of the Centre for Social Justice and Good
Works will take place on December 8, 2015, the Feast of the
Immaculate Conception and the Proclamation of the Year of
Mercy. Stayed tuned for further information.

In December, world leaders will be meeting in Paris at the United Nations Climate Change Conference ( COP21) to negotiate a binding and universal agreement on the world's cli-mate. For this agreement to be effective at avoiding future climate-related disasters, the global temperature can't rise more that 2 degrees C over the coming years! Please take a moment to fill out the Action Cards distributed in the bulletin November 1 weekend. Although only 8 cards have been returned to the baskets provided at the church entrance ways it is hopeful that many of you already returned them by mail directly to the Prime Minister. The baskets will be there for one more week before we gather up the Ac-tion cards to bring to the Conference. Thank you for your prayerful support. "As stewards of God's creation, we are called to make the earth a beautiful garden for the human family. When we destroy our forests, ravage our soil and pollute our
seas, we betray our noble calling"

Thirty Third Week of Ordinary Time
As we near the end of the Liturgical Year, we have more “end time” readings. On the Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time, we hear about being ready for the end of time. “In the same way, when you see these things happening, know that he is near, at the gates.” It is the good news that we can stay alert and will be ready when it is our time to recognize the Lord’s coming in our own life’s challenges today. Tuesday is the Memorial of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, Religious. Saturday is the Memorial of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In this next-to-last week of the Liturgical Year, we read from the First Book of Maccabees. These books are about the revolt against Jewish persecution a little over a century before Christ. The Maccabees are presented as a family that is faithful to the law in the midst of this persecution. Their witness is inspiring today.
We have wonderful stories from Luke’s Gospel this week as Jesus moves toward and enters Jerusalem for the end of his ministry. Jesus heals the blind beggar near Jericho. The man immediately “followed him, giving glory to God.” Then Jesus meets Zacchaeus who is up in a tree - because he was short, but probably also because he’s a tax collector and was nervous about being caught in a zealous crowd. Jesus transforms him by inviting himself to Zacchaeus’ house for dinner. Near Jerusalem, Jesus tells a parable of a rejected king and servants who use the gifts given them faithfully. In Jerusalem, Jesus weeps over the city, foreseeing the destruction that is coming, “because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.” Entering the temple, Jesus drives out the old way of doing business and begins his ministry. He silences the Sadducees, over their doubt about resurrection from the dead.
On the Thirty-Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time, we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. In the first reading from the Book of Daniel, we read of a vision he has of “one like a Son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven.” In John’s Gospel Jesus tells Pilate, “You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”
