Precision Agriculture
Precision Agriculture Sector Snapshot- The need to increase output comes with an increasing global population. This has become
another obstacle for farmers who need to find ways of producing yields at a higher rate to
meet demand.
- Agricultural technologies come to the fore to obtain more outputs with fewer inputs. One of
them is precision agriculture practices.
- Precision agriculture (PA) or precision farming is a new farming management term that uses
digital techniques to track and optimize processes of agricultural production.
- According to McKinsey's article, two technological trends are shaping precision agriculture.
The first one is big data and advanced analytics capabilities. The second one is robotics, such
as aerial imagery, sensors, sophisticated local weather forecasts.

All environmental factors-soil, weather, water-
vary from place to place. Precision agriculture
measures variations in conditions within a field
and adapt strategies accordingly. It helps in
several areas such as soil management, crop
management, seasonal and weather effects.
Precision Agriculture offers several advantages.

Sustainability- Precision Agriculture is about the precise control of differences in the
field to grow more food using fewer resources.
- Farmers spend lots of money on fertilizers, pesticides, water, seed, and
more. It is imperative not to do overdoing or underdoing when it comes
to fertilizers, pesticides, or irrigation, which may harm the environment
and scarce resources.
- Instead of spreading the same quantity of fertilizer over a whole
agricultural area or feeding a large cattle population with equal amounts
of feed, precision agriculture can calculate differences in conditions in a
farm and adjust its fertilization or feeding strategy.

- Precision agriculture applications promise to increase agricultural
output quantity and quality while using less input such as water,
pesticides, energy, fertilizers. The goal is not only to reduce the
impact on the environment but also to save costs.
- Among the precision agriculture methods, there is the use of
sensors technologies to monitor the soil and plant growth. By the
data obtained by sensors, optimal conditions for plant growth can
be achieved.
- Precision agriculture allows collecting real-time data that provide
better information for sale and succession.
- It also helps to reduce costs by reducing the use of fertilizers and
pesticides.

The Age of Data-Driven Farming
- CropX is a US-based agriculture analytics company. The company helps to optimize input
applications leading to significant water, fertilizer, energy, and labor savings.
- The company aims to make farming sustainable again by using technology. According to
CropX, if we want sustainable agriculture, we must start taking care of soils.
- To get the data, they put sensors on the field. Then raw information is collected by the
Sensors and transmitted to the CropX cloud, where it is analyzed by their software and
made available via mobile application and website.
- CropX offers several features. Adaptive Variable-Rate Irrigation Management and
Automation can help figure out how much to irrigate the field. Another feature is crop
specific management, which can predict the crop’s needs and expected growth.

Autonomous Robots for Easier Farming
- Founded in France in 2011, Naio Technologies develops and markets robots for agriculture
and viticulture. They also have a range of electric tools for weeding, hoeing, and harvesting
to help farmers.
- Naoi Technologies robots and machines are dedicated to healthy and productive agriculture
in full respect to the environment. The company aims to offer practical and durable solutions
to agricultural issues while reducing workload with autonomous tools for vegetable farmers
and winegrowers.
- The company has several agriculture types of equipment such as Weeding Robot, Vineyard
Robot, and Vegetable Robot.

The Drone That Can Do More
- Founded in 2015, Kray Technologies Works on aviation and aerospace.
- Kray Technologies created the world's first digital - and fully autonomous - drone crop-
sprayer that replaces aerial and ground sprayers.
- This solution helps to cut down costs for farmers. Drone requires less fuel, less
maintenance, and less staff compared to current alternative methods.
- Kray Technologies' drone has self-driving with computer vision and can process up to 1200
acres per day.
