83 Series TITALIUM – the future in padlocks is here!

The original 83/45 brass bodied padlock is still the preferred locksmith padlock in both New Zealand and Australia, however the engineers at ABUS would not be doing their job if they were not constantly looking at new materials to meet the high demands of the locksmith of today.

Enter Titalium. The engineers at ABUS developed ‘Titalium’, a special material that consists of a number of different metals including aluminium and combines their properties. The result is a high security padlock that offers the strength and reliability of brass, has excellent corrosion resistance and is relatively lightweight.

The 83AL/45 Titalium is available in a range of strong, attractive colours – black, blue, green, orange, purple, red and titanium.

ABUS 14 has you covered

Stop emergency doormisuse

The STI Exit Stopper is a unique and highly effective way to alert you to any unauthorised exits or entries through any emergency exit door. It can also serve as an inexpensive security device and help stop theft as well.

If the protected door is opened, the electronic Exit Stopper emits an ear piercing alarm. When the door is closed, a number of reset options are available including an automatic function. A key operated override facility will silence the alarm and allow authorised exits.

The Exit Stopper is tted with a 9V PP3 alkaline battery. It can be mounted or installed on almost any type of door, including remote placement of the sounder.

LSC . SILCA UC199

Silca Unocode 199

Precision, ease of use and automation - all in one with UC199.

Designed as a new concept, the new Silca Unocode 199 brings together the most common "front of shop" functionality into a robust, extremely precise and easy to use machine.

Designed to replace the duplicator and code machine in the front of shop area, the UC199 uses Silca's patented optical laser reader for extremely high precision duplication, which doesn't wear the original key. A fast cycle time ensures customers aren't kept waiting - the machine is ready when you are. When a key to code is required, just send it from the Silca Key Program, InstaCode, or from ProMaster. It gets better - the UC199 has an optional electromechanical feeder which can automatically feed up to 35 keys at a time, either for duplicating, making multiple keys to code from a queue, or master key system production from ProMaster7. Customers asked for it - and Silca delivered: Laser reader for duplication Optional automatic feeder without air Compatible with SKP, InstaCode, ProMaster Stand alone duplicating with adjustments Familiar and easy to use Rugged, reliable, heavy duty components and construction Safety shield and emergency stop button Stable footprint for accuracy Economical compared to alternatives Made in Italy, 2 year warranty Availability: December

The MVP and the token system is a very economical way to diagnostically programme cars. Having access to every software package that has been developed, and will be developed in the future, gives you the ability to work with most vehicles on the market today. Consider it a “pay as you go” machine, where every time programming is performed, an electronic token is used.

However, mistakes can make it possible to accidentally use more tokens than necessary. The most common cause of token loss is trying to programme incorrect keys, as in most cases, the machine cannot know if the keys are correct. Ensure you use new or virgin chips. Recycled keys will not work, as most chips will lock to the previous vehicle's ECU/Immobiliser.

In the case of incorrect chips, often you can repeat the programming procedure multiple times, as long as you do not turn your machine off or exit back to the main vehicle selection menu. We call this the programming window. As long as communication is kept, it will not require the use of another token to repeat programming. Sometimes it may display “one token will be used” but it won’t actually use it.

Eective token use

TOY 43 duplicating tricks

Cutting the Toyota TOY43 prole keys

to copy isn't always as easy as you

might think.

With quite a variation in the OEM and aftermarket proles, and with the popularity of this key (available in many versions) we strongly recommend duplicating the key by using the dedicated jaws on your machine (eg: the Silca Bravo Professional "B" jaw).

These jaws have a ridge on them to hold the prole.

The important thing is to hold the key from the prole, NOT from the base of the blade as you’d do with residential and other automotive keys. If you're holding the key from the centre-line, any variation in the height of the blank is irrelevant as it will be cut away by the cutting process.

••••

In some cases the act of trying to start the car will momentarily drop power from the OBD2 port resulting in the MVP switching off. If the wrong keys have been used and programming has failed, another token will be needed to restart the process. This can be avoided by temporarily plugging in your MVP externally via the power socket into a mains outlet or your van.

Remember to watch what the immobiliser light is doing. This will tell you if the car has accepted the keys, or not, without the need to try starting the vehicle. Please call us, or email [email protected] if problems arise.

Often you can repeat the programming procedure multiple times, as long as you do not turn your machine o or exit back to the main vehicle selection menu.

LSC . RECOMMENDSLSC . CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas & thank you to allour customers.

I would like to thank all our customers for their ongoing support and business over the last twelve months. The friendly relationships and healthy working associations we share are the cornerstone of LSC.

Our year has been absolutely full of new products, ideas and innovations. Amongst a consistent media lead campaign of bad economic news I must commend our sta for ignoring the negativity and getting on with bringing you the best locksmithing and security products available in the world.

One of the biggest things to happen at LSC has been the successful opening of our Distribution Centre in Victoria Australia. The connes of North Melbourne were too restrictive to our developing business and along with many OH&S issues, we had simply run out of room in all respects. I am happy to report that everything’s working very well and the unforeseen problems that always seem to manifest in a move like this have been systematically and successfully solved. Again well done to our dedicated sta for getting the job done.

Some of the success of the DC was seen when we held the MLAA VIC branch meeting in June and attracted close to two hundred locksmiths to the automotive transponder training meeting. I am sure this is a record crowd.

Training is vitally important and LSC have responded by formalising this area of our business with TechEd. This is an innovation focused on non product-specic training, designed for deep learning that will pay back into your business again and again.

2012 was certainly a busy and rewarding year. As we head into our 87th year in business we will continue to deliver the very best products and services for you and our industry.

I would like to wish all our customers and families a very happy and safe Christmas and successful New Year.

What’s happening outside the workshop

Lishi training anyone??

The LSC TSU team hit the road during November, providing on-site training for Lishi 2-in-1 picks and decoders.

Over the last few weeks, our TSU boys have been out and about around some local Auckland customers, giving on-site training on the Lishi 2-in-1 picks and decoders. These training sessions were received with great enthusiasm, particularly by those who were struggling a bit with the technique. After just a few minutes training by us, some customers were condently opening doors on BMW, Ford, Toyota & Honda vehicles, to name but a few.

The most spectacular result was a demonstration in front of a city Audi dealership sales team, at the premises of one of our biggest automotive locksmith customers. Here, a very skeptical crowd of car sales people were stunned to see our man open a top-of-the-range 2012 Audi Q3 in under 20 seconds. Further than that, he decoded the lock and cut a perfect working key within minutes.

Without exception, every customer that has had one of our mini training demonstrations has become a procient Lishi operator. If you have

bought a Lishi tool but have not had a visit from us, then there is a very useful training video on our website. Go to www.lsc.com.au select ‘Brand’ at top right, then select ‘Lishi’ then follow the links to the training video. If you would like a personal demonstration, then give Richard Hoares a call, or email him at [email protected] and he will tell you when he is next in your area.

Great sta are the key

We are very pleased to advise you that LSCNZ has recently made two very important changes to the Customer Services operation and to our Technical Support Unit.

Oliver Going has moved into the commercial sales role and is now the Account Manager for the Lower North Island sector, previously serviced by Richard Hoares. Oliver has just completed three years of in-house training and now has a highly developed knowledge of the entire LSCNZ range of products, which will serve him well in his new role.

Richard Hoares has joined the LSC Technical Support Unit, where he is waiting to assist you with any queries you may have. Whether it is to do with automotive diagnostic in-car programming, transponder duplication, or Silca key machine enquiries, he will be happy to help.

At LSCNZ, we believe that knowledge is king and our Customer Services and Technical Support people are among the nest and most knowledgeable in the industry.www.lscnz.co.nz

LSC . SHOWBUS

On the road withthe LSC Showbus

Showbus highlights 2012

Well, what a year it has been for the LSC Showbus. Since the beginning of this year, it has literally been from Bluff to Cape Reinga and most places in between. A lot of the LSCNZ staff have had a turn and an opportunity see parts of the country they have never seen before and to meet up with some of our customers. It is always good to put faces to voices and we have certainly met some great characters on our journey round the country.

It has been a remarkably successful venture and has been met with nothing but high praise and admiration from our customers. From a locksmith’s perspective, the bus certainly has that ‘wow’ factor. From a business perspective, the tour has generated a lot of new sales and interest in the LSC range of products, particularly Silca electronic machines. The ability to be able to demonstrate any of the machines, no matter how remote the location, has really impressed a lot of people. The beer fridge was also very well received by those customers lucky to be the last call on any given day!!

So, the bus has done its dash and is now being prepared for its journey back across the Tasman. It’s been a lot of fun, but it has also been a lot of hard work, early starts and long, long journeys. Special thanks have to go to our drivers, particularly Dan Scott, whose territory is the entire South Island. He has spent many weeks away from his family and has entertained his variety of LSC passengers in true Southern style – Bluff Oysters, Lamb’s Fry and bacon, Whitebait fritters – you name it, we’ve eaten it!

We’ve all enjoyed the experience and we hope those of you who got to see the Tourbus, enjoyed it too. We took hundreds of photos on the tour and we have selected a few of the more unusual ones for your entertainment – enjoy.

Balancing that Ohakune carrot on the bonnet of the bus was no mean feat for Phil Caira. He reckons it improved his night vision though!

Being strafed by this De Havilland Venom was a bit OTT – the boys had only stopped for a cup of tea and a sandwich. They weren’t spying or anything!

Sometimes the natives were a bit restless, so we had to have an armed escort!

The bus was a bit sluggish uphill, so to give it a bit of a boost, the boys bolted this Rolls Royce Trent Turbofan engine (kiwifruit coloured) on the side! www.lscnz.co.nz

Silca machines - service and repairs

Did you know that LSC is the only company in Australasia authorized by the Silca factory in Italy to repair and service Silca key machines? Because of our remote location, it would obviously be prohibitive to return machines to the factory for repair, so, because of our long association with Silca, they have especially trained several of our in-house engineers so we can do any repairs on site at our Poland Road location. We carry a full range of spare parts for all of the popular machines and we can usually source parts for older, more obscure machines from either our Melbourne Technical Support Unit, or direct from the Silca factory.

If you own a Silca electronic machine – Unocode 299, Unocode 399 Evo, Viper, Triax, Triax Quattro or even the long time industry favourite, the Unocode Classic, then our engineers and Technical Support staff have the knowledge and the expertise to help you get the best out of your investment. Remember, when you purchased your electronic machine, it cost as much as a family car. Family cars require regular maintenance and servicing – so do Silca machines. Most of the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep, you could and should do yourself - Silca machines are designed and built with that in mind, but any serious repairs can be carried out by us. If the repair is going to be a drawn out affair, we can loan you a similar machine – free, so you keep your business going without interruption and loss of income.

In the unlikely event you experience a major problem with your machine, don’t be tempted to ‘do it yourself’. Just phone one of our Tech Support people for free advice. We can generally diagnose problems over the telephone and often, we can talk you through how to x them. This will not only ensure the job is done properly, but it could also save you lots of money. Silca machines are famously reliable and sturdily engineered to last for many years, so problems are few and far between.

So, if you need help with your Silca machine, just email our Tech Support unit on either [email protected] or [email protected] we’ll be happy to assist.

Account Manager Oliver Going

Happy customers

Robert Linton pictured right and Workshop Manager Alan from Manukau Lock & Alarm, are pictured with their new Silca "Triple pack" a Unocode 299, Viper and RW4plus.

Meet the latest addition to our sales team.

Ollie has quietly spent the past three years learning every aspect of our business and has found his feet as Account Manager for the Lower North Island. He is also attending university part time studying for a Certicate in Applied Technology, which will give him the knowledge to add to the already diverse abilities of our Tech Support Unit. We are sure that Ollie will shine as an Account Manager and we wish him well in his new role.

When he is not poring over technical manuals or visiting customers, Ollie’s biggest passion in life is plying the Hauraki Gulf in search of the illusive giant Snapper. So far, we have absolutely no evidence that he has succeeded!

Formerly a talented club rugby player, Ollie has slipped into early retirement, as he felt the cauliower ear, fat lip and broken nose syndrome was probably not a good look for a company representative!
