KPM Academic Regulations 11th Edition (2019) provides the framework for the conduct of academic activities and records in KPM. The updates are intended to strengthen the implementation of a standardised academic regulation by taking into consideration of the current and future needs.
KPM Academic Regulations 11th Edition (2019) was endorsed by the Bahagian Pendidikan Tinggi (BPT) Audit Meeting 17 January 2019 and bylaw officially in use for the Diploma Programme starting January 2019 academic semester.

The coursework assessed and evaluated throughout the semester
which contribute to the final grade

MQA A statutory body in Malaysia set up under the Malaysian
Qualifications Act 2007 to accredit academic programs provided
by higher educational institutions
APEL A systematic process that involves the identification,
documentation and assessment of prior experiential learning. It
provides an opportunity for individual with working experience but
lack of formal academic qualifications to pursue their studies in
Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
MPU As of September 2013, The Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia
enforce that all tertiary education students in Malaysia are
required to complete a set of General Studies named as Mata
Pelajaran Pengajian Umum (MPU) subjects. It is designed to
enhance the student’s knowledge and skills that goes beyond the
academic disciplines.
ACCA The global professional accounting body offering the Chartered
Certified Accountant qualification (ACCA)

CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION
Kolej Profesional MARA (KPM) [formerly known as Institut Perdagangan MARA (IPM)] was established in 1977 and its current administrative centre is Bahagian Pendidikan Tinggi MARA (BPT).
It is a fully government-assisted college established to increase the number of Bumiputera work force in the public and private sectors, particularly in the field of business, accounting and information technology. It also aims at enhancing academic excellence among Bumiputera students who have attained moderate results in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). The six colleges throughout Malaysia are:
KPM Ayer Molek (KPMAM), Melaka KPM Bandar Melaka (KPMBM), Melaka KPM Bandar Penawar (KPMBP), Johor KPM Beranang (KPMB), Selangor
KPM Indera Mahkota (KPMIM), Pahang KPM Seri Iskandar (KPMSI), Perak
All programmes are accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and English is used as a medium of instruction. Programmes offered are:

2 ACADEMIC REGISTRATION
i. Students must register their courses within 7 working days of the semester
start date. ii. Late registration is allowed within the subsequent 7 working days with fees as
follows: a. RM 50.00 - the first day b. RM 10.00 - each subsequent day
iii. Students failing to complete their academic registration without valid reasons
within the specified time will be terminated from their study.
3 CHANGE OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
College may consider applications from students who wish to change their programme of study within the same college or between the KPM colleges subject to these conditions:
i. The change of programme is allowed only once throughout the student’s
study; ii. The application for change is made no later than TWO (2) weeks after their
academic registration in the second semester (not applicable for short semester) of their study;
iii. The approval for change of programme of study within the same college must
be obtained from the College Director before the new semester begins; iv. The approval for change of programme of study between the different colleges
must be obtained from the Director of Higher Education Division before the new semester begins;
v. Upon approval, the student will be registered as a second semester student of
the new programme of study; vi. The initial academic record (common courses) of the students’ former
programme will be retained and the study will be considered as continuous; vii. Application for internal credit transfer of non-common courses are subject to
the following conditions:
a. the course(s) are of the same credit value or equivalent or more, to the course(s) in the new programme;
b. the course must be equivalent/similar to at least 80% in content based
on course to course comparison; c. the course has similar learning outcomes; d. the student must have obtained at least a grade C or equivalent in the
courses.

4 CREDIT TRANSFER
i. Application for credit transfer should be submitted within the first week after
academic registration.
ii. Application should fulfill all requirements upon submission with relevant supporting documents (application letter, syllabus, and certificate/transcript).
iii. Refer to Buku Panduan Pindah Kredit Program Pengajian Kolej Profesional
MARA.
5 MQA GENERAL STUDIES COURSES
i. Students are required to pass MQA General Studies courses as prerequisite to
the award of a diploma. There are four MQA General Studies courses offered i.e.:
a. Public Communication Skills (MPU 2222) b. Kemahiran dan Tanggungjawab Sosial (MPU 2482) c. Dinamika Islam di Malaysia (MPU 2372) d. Pengajian Malaysia 2 (MPU 2163)

ii. Grading System for MQA General Studies Courses
The passing mark for MQA courses is 45 that is equivalent to grade ‘C-’. The grading system is as shown in the table below. Students obtaining grade ‘D+’ and below have to repeat the course(s) concerned.

6 CO-CURRICULUM
i. It is compulsory for all students to register and pass two (2) co-curriculum
courses comprising of:
a. Uniform Body b. Clubs/sports/entrepreneurial club (PSN)
ii. Students are allowed to repeat the failed course(s) or replace failed course(s)
with another course (s) belonging to the same group. iii. Three (3) attempts are allowed for each course/group.

7 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING (ITR)
i. Industrial Training is a compulsory course for all KPM students who enrolled in
DAB/DLH, DBF, DCD, DCN, DEC, DCS and DHI programmes.
ii. The duration of the training ranged from 12 - 24 weeks in Semester 7 after
completion all the courses required by the programme. Students are supervised by the industrial supervisor and a supervisor from the college.
iii. Students are allowed to undergo industrial training after passing ALL courses
within the maximum 7 semesters. Only 2 attempts are granted for industrial training. Students will be dismissed after failure in the second attempt.

CHAPTER II GENERAL ACADEMIC REGULATIONS (ALL PROGRAMMES)
1 ACADEMIC YEAR
An Academic Year is divided into 3 semesters, with 2 long semesters and 1 short semester. Each long semester consists of 17 weeks (14 lecture weeks, 1 revision week and 2 examination weeks). The short semester consists of 9 weeks (7 lecture weeks, 1 revision week and 1 examination week).
2 ACADEMIC LOAD
Maximum credit hours for a long semester is 20 credit hours and 10 credit hours for short semester. Should a student wish to register more than the specified credit hours of the programme prior approval must be obtained from the College Deputy Director of Academic Affairs.
3 EXAMINATION
3.1 Courses with Final Examination
It is compulsory for all registered students to sit for the semester examination. A grade ‘F’ will be recorded if a student fails to comply with this regulation.
Repeat
i. A student who fail any of the courses must repeat that/those courses with
a charge of RM50.00 for each course. ii. The maximum grade is ‘B’ for those who repeat the course(s) due to
cheating/plagiarising/barred. iii. A student is allowed to repeat a course not more than 2 times within the
period allowed. iv. Only the higher grade earned will be used in re computing both the grade
point average (GPA) and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA). However, the credit hours earned for that/those course(s) remain the same.
3.2 Courses without Final Examination
It is compulsory for all registered students to complete assessments. A grade ‘F’ will be recorded if a student fails to comply this regulation.

a. Repeat
i. A student who fail any of the courses must repeat that/those courses with
a charge of RM50.00 for each course.
ii. The maximum grade is ‘B’ for those who repeat the course(s) due to cheating/plagiarising/barred.
b. A student will fail the course if he/she:
i. has been barred ii. fail to submit ANY of the assessments
3.3 Medical leave during examination week
3.3.1 A student with medical leave (MC) by an authorised medical officer during
the final examination week will be required to repeat the course(s) in the
following semester (refer to clause 3.1: Courses with final examination).
3.3.2 However, ONLY students who have been hospitalised and obtain MC due
to critical illness and/or contagious disease such as chicken pox, dengue,
mumps etc. will be allowed to appeal to sit for the examination. A grade ’TL’
will be recorded in the result slip.
3.4 Supplementary Examination
The supplementary examination is allowed for:
a. Students with college approval b. Graduating students who;
i. had sat for the final examination and failed;

v. Graduating students who choose not to sit for the supplementary examination are allowed to extend their semester of study in order to repeat course failed, subjected to Extended Semester Policy.
vi. Graduating students who have been barred from examination or failed due to plagiarism/cheating offences are not eligible to sit for this

examination. Students must repeat the course (s) in the following semester, subjected to Extended Semester Policy.
4 GRADING SYSTEM
Upon completion of courses at the end of each semester, a student’s performance will be evaluated and graded.

4.3 Barred
Students can be barred from class/exam OR dismissed due to unsatisfactory attendance (refer to clause 10: Attendance) at any time during the semester.
4.4 Plagiarism and Cheating
4.4.1 Plagiarism, whether inadvertent or deliberate, can be inferred from any of
the following actions:
i. word-for-word copying of sentences or whole paragraphs from one or more sources (the work of other persons), or presenting substantial extracts from books, articles, theses, other unpublished work such as working papers, seminar and conference papers, internal reports, computer software, lecture notes or tapes, without clearly indicating their origin;
ii. using close paraphrasing of sentences or whole paragraphs without due acknowledgement in the form of reference to the original work;
iii. submitting another programme member’s work in whole or in part;
iv. use of another person’s ideas, work or research data without acknowledgement;
v. submitting work which has been written by someone else on the student’s behalf;
vi. special note is also drawn to the fact that students may not submit part or whole of work previously presented for assessment in another course;
4.4.2 Candidates are not allowed to bring into examination hall any document or
instrument, either printed or written or electronic forms that are not approved, that assist or lead to plagiarism/cheating. Any means or ways that assist or lead to plagiarism or cheating is not allowed.
4.4.3 The case shall be referred to the college Disciplinary Board. For all proven
cases of plagiarism or cheating, ‘F’ grade will be given for the course(s).
4.5 Incomplete Grade
4.5.1 Unable to complete a course(s) prior approval by College Senate
i. ‘TL’ grade is recorded for students who are unable to complete a course (s) and with prior approval by the College Senate.

ii. ‘TL’ grade carries no grade points and will not be used in computing students’ GPA and CGPA. The ‘TL’ grade must be converted to a completed grade by the first 2 weeks of the following semester.
iii. Should students fail to complete the course work within the stipulated time,
the ‘TL’ grade will be replaced with an ‘F’ grade and will be computed in the students’ grade point average (GPA) of the previous semester.
iv. Students are not allowed to re-register for a course in which a ‘TL’ grade
has been assigned.
v. ‘TL’ grade is also recorded for students (refer to clause 3.3.2: Medical leave during examination week). The ‘TL’ grade carries no grade points and will not be used in computing a students’ GPA and CGPA. The ‘TL’ grade must be converted to a completed grade at the end of the following semester.
4.6 Grading for Industrial Training
It is compulsory for all graduating students for following programs to attend and pass industrial training:

If a student registered for Industrial Training where the duration is longer than the current semester, grade MP(LI) will be awarded. There will be no implications to the student’s Academic Transcript and CGPA calculated for the current semester.
4.7 Co Curriculum Courses
It is compulsory for all registered students to attend and pass co curriculum courses.
4.8 Pass/Fail Grade
A Pass or Fail grade will be recorded for certain courses but will not be used in computing the CGPA.
5. PREREQUISITE(S)
Students are allowed to sit for a course at a higher level provided passes the prerequisite course(s). Under special circumstances, approval must be obtained from the College Senate.

6. ADD/DROP/WITHDRAWAL
6.1 Add/Drop is allowed within the first week of academic session with the approval of
the homeroom advisor.
6.2 Withdrawal is allowed within the sixth (6th) week for a long semester and the third (3rd) week for short semester of the academic session with the approval of the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs.
6.3 Students must maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours for the long semester and a
minimum of 5 credit hours for short semester. The credit hours for withdrawal will not be calculated in GPA or CGPA. The withdrawal charge is RM50.00 per course.

8. ACADEMIC STATUS
8.1 Satisfactory Performance (MP)
Students performance are satisfactory if CGPA of 2.00 and above is obtained.
8.2 Unsatisfactory Performance
A student who earns a CGPA of less than 2.00 will be on probation or dismissed from the college.
8.2.1 Academic Probation (MPS)
A student who obtains a CGPA ranging from 1.67 to 1.99 starting from Semester 2 onwards will be on academic probation.

8.2.2 Dismissal (DTP)
A Student will be dismissed when;
a. the GPA is less than 1.00 OR b. the CGPA of less than 1.67, OR c. on probation (MPS) for 2 consecutive semesters, OR d. fail ALL registered academic courses in the semester, OR e. fail the same course(s) after three (3) attempts, OR e. fail the Industrial Training after two (2) attempts for DAB/DLH, DBF, DCD,
DCS, DCN, DEC and DHI programmes, OR f. fail to pass ALL courses by semester 8 for DIA, DBS, DEn, DIB, DLM, DBIT
and DMk programmes. g. fail to pass ALL courses by semester 9 for DAB/DLH, DBF, DCD and DCS,
DCN, DEC and DHI programmes. h. fail to pass ALL courses by semester 6 for CAT programmes.
9. APPEALS
9.1 Appeals for Remarking of Answer Scripts
9.1.1 Appeals must be submitted to the College Director within 5 working days
after examination results are released.
9.1.2 If a student is not satisfied with the results, an appeal can be made to the College Senate for remarking. A charge of RM50.00 per course will be imposed and not refundable.
9.1.3 The College Senate may not approve the appeal for ANY of the following
reasons:
a. a student did not fulfil all assessment or attendance requirement
b. the appeal is not supported by relevant documentation c. the appeal is related to a grade awarded following a remarking
d. the appeal is related to resubmission of an assignment which was
earlier denied
9.1.4 The result of the appeal will be released within 5 working days.
10. ATTENDANCE
10.1 Class Attendance
10.1.1 Class attendance is calculated from the first day of class.

10.1.2 A 90% attendance (based on contact hours) for every course is compulsory
to enable students to sit for the final semester examination. However, an
80% of attendance (based on contact hours) for every course is allowed for
students with Medical Certification (MC) and prior approved leave. Beyond
the above, students are required to repeat the course(s). A grade “DH” will
be recorded on the transcript. This is also true for courses without final
examination (refer to clause 3.2: Courses without final examination).
11. DEFERMENT OF STUDIES
The maximum duration of deferment allowed for Diploma programmes must not exceed 2 semesters. The approval is subject upon decision by the College Director.
The CGPA for students on deferment remain unchanged for that duration until they resume their studies.
12. ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARDS
12.1 MARA Outstanding Performance Award-MOPA (Anugerah Kecemerlangan MARA)
MARA Outstanding Performance Award is granted to full-time students with good academic standing who attain a CGPA 3.75 and above upon graduation.
12.2 College Outstanding Performance Award-COPA (Anugerah Kecemerlangan Kolej)
College Outstanding Performance Award is granted to full-time students with good academic standing who attain a GPA 3.50 and above for the semester.
12.3 Eligibility for Academic Excellence Awards
To be eligible for academic awards, students must satisfy all of the following:
a. first attempt for all courses, b. no ‘TL’ grades on his/her transcript, c. a minimum of 12 credit hours for a long semester, d. no disciplinary misconduct.
13. RESULT SLIP, TRANSCRIPT & DIPLOMA
13.1 Result Slip
Result slip will be issued every semester examination after the endorsement of results by the Senate.

13.2 Transcript
Transcript will be issued upon completion of the programme after the endorsement of results by the Senate.
13.3 Diploma
The diploma will be awarded upon graduation.
13.4 Reprints
Any request for reprints will be charged the following: a. Result Slip : RM10.00 per copy b. Transcript : RM50.00 per copy c. Diploma : RM100.00 per copy
Students will be charged double the amount stated above per copy for each subsequent reprint.
14. GRADUATING
An official graduation ceremony is held annually whereby a diploma will be awarded. The responsibility for fulfilling the requirements for graduation rests with the individual student.
14.1 Graduation Requirements
Prior to graduation, students must obtain a Graduate status (TPG) when they fulfil the following criteria:
a. pass all courses, including Industrial Training and Co-Curriculum within a
maximum of semesters allowed; b. obtain a Credit for Bahasa Melayu in SPM; c. achieve an overall CGPA of 2.00 and above; d. complete the required credit hours within the maximum number of
semesters allowed:

14.2 TP(S) Status
Graduating students will be given a conditional programme completion status (TPS) if:
14.2.1 they failed any courses in their final semester and are eligible to sit for
Supplementary Examination (refer to clause 3.4: Supplementary Examination). A subsequent failure will lead to dismissal status (DTP).
14.2.2 they are not able to pass all courses with a minimum CGPA of 2.00.
Subsequent failure after Supplementary Examination will lead to TP (TG) status.
14.3 TP (TG) Status
A student will not graduate if he/she is not able to pass all courses with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 within the specified time.

CHAPTER III SPECIFIC ACADEMIC REGULATIONS (DCN)
1. CISCO ACADEMY COURSES
CISCO Academy courses offered are:
a. Introduction to Networking b. Small-to-Medium Business Networking c. Routing Technologies d. Switching Technologies e. WAN Technologies
2. EVALUATION OF CISCO ACADEMY COURSES
Course assessment will be based on the on-line evaluation (CISCO) and workshop or laboratory work (CISCO/College).
The test will be administered after completion of each topic. The end-of-unit test will be administered after completion of the course. A PASS or FAIL grade will be made known after 48 hours of test completion. A student is only eligible to sit for the final CCNA examination in Semester 6 after completing CCNA1 to CCNA4 series.
3. GRADING SYSTEM FOR CISCO ACADEMY COURSES
CISCO Academy sets the passing mark as 70 and above with no grading given to the students.
4. REPEAT FOR CISCO ACADEMY COURSE TOPICAL TEST AND END-OF-UNIT TEST
4.1 A student who failed the topical test(s) will not be allowed to sit for the following
topical test without first passing the former. The student is allowed to repeat failed test(s) of courses registered for the semester 3 times per test provided that the attempt(s) is(are) made during the semester. Failing this, with the final mark of less than 70 for the course(s), the student will be deemed FAIL by the CISCO Academy and will not obtain the CISCO Academy’s recognition for the course(s). The mark, however, is still considered for the college evaluation purposes and the student can still proceed with his/her studies to obtain KPM diploma.
4.2 A student is also allowed to repeat the End-of-unit Test twice (2 times) within the examination weeks. If he/she still fails (less than 70), the student will be deemed FAIL by the CISCO Academy and will not be given the certificate of recognition for the course. This student, however, can proceed with his/her studies in KPM with the Director’s approval. Marks obtained will still be considered for the GPA and CGPA calculations for the purposes of KPM diploma conferral.
4.3 For internal grading purposes, all final or End-of-unit Test will account for 40% of
assessment and other tests 60% of the assessment.

CHAPTER IV SPECIFIC ACADEMIC REGULATIONS (CAT)
1. ACADEMIC LOAD
Maximum credit hours for a long semester ranged from 14 to 23 credit hours and 10 credit hours for short semester. Should a student wish to register more than the specified credit hours of the programme, he/she must obtain prior approval from the college Deputy Director of Academic Affairs.

3. RESIT FOR CAT CORE COURSES
A student who obtains a grade ‘C-’ and/or below in any of the CAT courses must repeat
that/those examination/s in the first week of the following semester. Any examination fees
charged by ACCA related to the repeat courses have to be borne by the student.
4. EXEMPTION FOR PAPER FA1 OF THE CAT QUALIFICATION
Students who score grade ‘A+’, ‘A’ and ‘A-’ in SPM Prinsip Perakaunan paper will be exempted from one paper (Paper FA1) of the CAT Qualification. Students have to submit the application for exemption during the initial registration to ACCA. No exemption fees will be charged.
5. DEFERMENT OF STUDIES
Deferment of studies for CAT programme is not allowed.
