Preliminary findings – Pilot Phase of Survey

N = 23 Respondents Only Initial Program Completers’ responses, specifically those who indicated they were employed in the area they earned

a certificate or an endorsement in the designated academic year, were considered in the information presented below.

Category 1: Learner and Learning (InTASC Category 1; CAEP 1.3, 1.4, 4.2, 4.3 - and 4.4 (IP)) Eight items of the survey addressed Category 1: Learner and Learning. At least 91% and up to 95.66% of the initial program completers responded strongly agree

to agree to 5 of the 8 items. Specifically, 95.66% of respondents (n = 22) were favorable to the following two items: prepare to understand how students learn

and develop (employers comparably rated this area with 97.06% of agreement); and prepare an environment that encourages positive social interaction among

students. The following 3 items were also positively rated by 21 (91.30%) of the respondents: prepared to understand and use knowledge of school, family,

cultural and community factors that influence the quality of education for students; prepared to effectively teach students from diverse backgrounds (employers

comparably rated this area with 92.64% of agreement); and prepared to establish a caring relationship with students developed through engagement and high

expectations for all learners. Three items, although rated favorably by a majority of respondents may be areas that faculty will want to pay closer attention to

when considering program improvement: prepared to establish a classroom environment of respect and rapport that provides a culture for learning (86.95% -

employer comparably rated this area with 95.58%); prepared to understand how to provide a variety of opportunities that support student learning and

development (82.61%); and prepared to manage student behavior in the classroom (73.91% – employers comparably rated this area with 94.11%).
