Effects of chelate ligands containing NN, PN,and PP on the reactivity of organoplatinum(II)complexes in oxidative addition reactions

The oxidative addition reactions of threeplatinum square planar complexes of thetype [PtMe2(LL)] (LL = NN, PN, PP) withMeI, with a systematic variation in thechelate ligands, have been theoreticallyinvestigated.

Optical properties of heavy lanthanide maleatesin solution and crystal form

The spectroscopic results confirm the X-raymeasurements on an Eu(C4O4H3)3Æ8H2Ocrystal, which is isostructural with theNd3+ analogue. In the absorption spectra,a red shift was observed for the hyper-sensitive transitions of the lanthanide ions. The variation of the spectroscopic para-meters, calculated based on the absorption

spectra, the nephelauxetic ratio b andSinhas parameter d, suggested an increasein the degree of covalency of the metal–ligand coordination bond from the Eu3+

crystal to the Ho3+ crystal and to the Er3+

crystal of the title compounds. An emissionfrom the 5D1 level for europium maleatewas detected in spite of the presence ofwater molecules in the inner coordinationsphere for the lanthanide maleate crystals. On the basis of the europium maleate-excited spectra, a ligand-to-metal chargetransfer (LMCT) band was determined at345 nm.

Ligand induced diversification from tetranuc-lear to mononuclear compounds: Syntheses, structures and magnetic properties

Three new complexes 1–3 have beenconstructed. The studies show that theposition and steric hindrances of the sub-stituted groups are essential in determin-ing the final structures of the assemblies. The {Ni4O4} core displays dominant ferro-magnetic interactions due to the nature ofthe binding modes through l3-O.

Discrete systems and two-dimensional coordi-nation polymers containing potentially multi-dentate and bridging inorganic anions:Observation of a new type of two-dimensionaltopology

The work here deals with copper(II)–hex-acyanoferrate(III)/hexacyanocobaltate(III)/hexacyanochromate(III)/tetracyanonickela-te(II), cocrystalline copper(II) dicyanoar-gentate(I) and copper(II)/nickel(II)–dicyanamide compounds having a diamineas the blocking ligand. The systems arediscrete or two-dimensional in terms ofcoordinate bonds and three-dimensional interms of hydrogen bonds.

First example of bridge mono-coordinationmode for the ligand 1,8-bis-(2-pyridyl)-3,6-dithiaoctane (pdto) in a Co(II) tetrahedralcomplex

This work presents the first Co(II)–pdtocomplex with tetrahedral geometry inwhich this versatile ligand (pdto = 1,8-bis(2-pyridyl)-3,6-dithiaoctane) presentsan unusual bridge monodentate mode. Itwas found that in solid sate and in solutionthe complex presents similar coordinationenvironment around Co(II) metal center.

A new series of Ni(II), Cu(II), Co(II) and Pd(II)complexes with an ONS donor Schiff base:Synthesis, crystal structure, catalytic propertiesand bioactivities

A new series of bichelated complexes of theformula M(L)2 and M(L)Cl, where,M = Ni(II), Cu(II), Co(II) and Pd(II) andL = deprotonated Schiff base, were synthe-

sized from 5-bromo N-[(2-benzylthio)-phenyl] salicylaldimine (HL, 1). The ligandand its complexes were characterized byelemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H NMR andUV–vis spectroscopies, thermogravimetricanalysis and conductivity studies. Thecrystal structure of the palladium complexwas determined by single crystal X-raydiffraction studies. The copper complexshows very good catalytic activity towardsthe oxidation of organic thioethers. Again, the ligand and the complexes exhibitedconsiderable antibacterial and antifungalactivities.

The spectralchanges observed during the reductiveelectrolysis indicate that all three com-plexes give [Pt2(C4H3N2S)4]. The changes inthe reduction potentials of the complexesare correlated to the changes in the energyof the LUMO.
