    Luxury goods are products and services that are not considered essential and

    are associated with affluence.

    There are also goods that are perceived as luxurious by the public simply

    because they play a role of status symbols as such goods tend to signify thepurchasing power of those who acquire them.

    luxury good may become a normal good or even an inferior good at different

    income levels, e.g. a wealthy person stops buying increasing numbers of luxury

    cars for his automobile collection to start collecting airplanes (at such anincome level, the luxury car would become an inferior good).

    People in India are now more aware about the brands that are available to them.

    They want to exhibit their status.

    These brands give a feeling of being exclusive. The desire to be the only few to

    own a new Harley or the latest Gucci perfume has engulfed the minds of theprosperous Indian consumer.

    Brand conscious generation of India is one of major factors of rise in luxury over

    past few years. Even kids want costly phones, clothes, watches etc.

    In short there is a shift in the way a consumer perceives a luxury brand and this

    will lead to more and more brands entering the Indian market and help the Indian

    consumer to satisfy their thirst to be in the esteemed category of exclusive

    owners".
