Dear Parish Family,

A popular song tells us, “The rhythm of life is a

powerful beat. Puts a tingle in your fingers and a

tingle in your feet.” Different aspects of our lives

have different rhythms and tempi. And, just like

in music, they will speed up and slow down as

phases change.

It is important to remember that the Church also

offers us a “rhythm of life” in the form of the

Ecclesiastical Calendar. The entire Church Year is paced with periods of fasting and

feasting. The alternating of these times is meant to prepare us for a Feast Day that is

coming, then to guide us through properly celebrating.

This process gives us the opportunity to sanctify the rhythm of our lives, and all of our

time. For instance, in the 40 days before Christmas we use all three facets of fasting to

focus on preparing ourselves to receive the baby Jesus. Then, for the week after the

Church directs us to feast, to celebrate, without fasting.

The month of August brings us to a similar period. From August 1st through the 14th

we are called to fast. This period prepares us for the Great Feast of the Falling Asleep

of the Mother of God. Then, on August 15th we change the rhythm to celebrate!

We are blessed to be able to come together during this time to ask for the Panagia’s

prayers for every aspect of our lives, and especially for our “East Pittsburgh Greek Fest

2-GO!”

Let’s challenge ourselves to embrace the rhythm of Church life during this fasting

period. Let’s attend the extra Paraklesis services and Vigil Service on August 14th. And

may the Mother of God intercede for our beloved Church, East Pittsburgh Greek Fest

2-GO, and all the works of our hands!

See you at Church!

Fr. Dean

… to all the stewards of

our parish family who

already completed a

card for this year.

110 pledge cards collected for 2020!

Our goal is 136!

There is still time for you to make a commitment of your time,

talent and treasure to our Church home for 2020. Many families

faithfully send in contributions, but do not complete a stewardship

card. We thank you for your love and support of Ypapanti,

however, to be recognized as

a steward, a pledge card

must be completed

annually.

Pledge cards are available in

the church pews, candle

stand and office. You can

also complete a pledge card

through the church website

or by calling Nancy in the

office. She will be happy to

complete a pledge card on

your behalf over the phone.

Festival Update from Mary Doreza

New Normal = Change

We wake up each day thanking God for being one day closer to praying and working

together with our Ypapanti Family. First and foremost, we will see each other at Matins

and Divine Liturgy on a Sunday morning, in the very near future. Then, we will have the

opportunity to work for the Church by preparing and offering our Festival in August.

However, there will be a few adjustments in response to the world around us.

In regard to the Festival, the following adjustments have been recommended by your

Festival Committee approved by vote the Parish Council, with the hope you will

embrace them by participating in any way you can.

• Dates: Fri, Sat, Sun, Aug 21, 22, 23

• Times: 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM Fri &

Sat, 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM Sun

• Site: Parking Lot and Olympia Hall

Foyer/Portico

• Work Shifts: Fri & Sat 9-1, 1-5, 5-9,

Sun 10:30-2, 2-7

• Reduced Menu

• Pastry Baking is in progress or will be

scheduled

• Take Out Orders Only

• Phone & Online Orders

• Sponsorship Album will be enclosed

with each order

• To save space and costs, there will

be no vendor booths or live music

• We will have Greek music via a

speaker system.

• Much advertising will be done over

Social Media

• Lawn Signs will be available with

date changes

In recent months, many have experienced renewed love and joy of family living, as well

as a longing to be with others. The Festival offers us the opportunity to work together

as an “Ypapanti Family” and share the joy of hospitality with friends and neighbors.

Please pray about how you can help to make this Festival effort as successful as possible.

A more detailed mailing will be sent in the near future. While this will not be our

“normal” Festival, with your help, support, and prayers, we will do our best to make an

excellent Festival!

Nick George Memorial Scholarship Fund Awardees

In the spring of 1999, Ypapanti established the Nick George Memorial Scholarship Fund to award deserving high school graduates from our church community financial aid for their first year of post-high school studies. The church is proud to say that the award continues 21 years later and has been awarded to over 60 graduates. To meet scholarship requirements, the applicants must have high academic standings in high school, display the character of an Orthodox Christian, and be active in the church. To make a donation to the Nick George Memorial Scholarship Fund, please mail it to the church or make your offering through the “Online Giving” tab at www.PresentationOfChristPgh.org

PRESENTATION OF CHRIST CHURCH 37TH ANNUAL YPAPANTI GREEK FOOD FESTIVAL - AUGUST 21st TO THE 23rd, 2020

Ways You Can Contribute

• Enjoy the fellowship of working together as an “Ypapanti Team” and attend

the baking & cooking sessions or volunteer for one more shift than you did last

year at the Festival. And don’t forget help is always needed for set-up and

clean-up of the Festival!

• Share the Joy! Invite your friends and family to join you for a meal at the

festival; or, encourage them to volunteer for a festival shift.

• Publicize the festival! Share on social media, distribute festival tri-fold flyers to

local businesses & gathering places or display a lawn sign in your yard during the

month of August.

• The Album Ad Book! Sell an album ad to a business or sponsor an album ad for

your family.

• Ingredient Sponsorships! Help support the cost of the food ingredients by

sponsoring part, or all, of your favorite!

• Festival Dollars! Purchase “festival dollars” and give them as gifts throughout

the summer.

• Be welcoming and share your festival energy with our guests.

• Pray that God will bless Ypapanti with the BEST FESTIVAL EVER!

The festival is the Parish’s largest fundraiser. Your help is very much appreciated.
