Enjoyable End of Season Break-up Parties for in2CRICKET Last week we had two very enjoyable in2CRICKET en of season break up parties. On Tuesday at Kianawah Park the U9s had their bash. They have been a very enthusiastic bunch of kids (and parents) and there is a lot of excitement about next season. We already have two managers sorted for U9s so we are well ahead of the cricket ball on that one. There was also a lot of talk about kids going on to U10 so we have definitely fulfilled our brief of getting our In2CRICKET kids to follow through into junior cricket. On Friday night at the clubhouse we had a far larger crowd than Noel and I were expecting as the numbers have been quite low for the past few weeks due to rugby and soccer training having already started. The kids literally had a feast with three tables overflowing with food, some of it was amazing. The parents really went all out and the kids went home on a real sugar and junk food high!!!! Again there was lots of positive talk about kids graduating up to U9s or returning to the Friday night sessions so we can't ask for better than that. I have to say Friday nights have once again been a raging success I am very grateful to Drew Dugdale as he has been there almost every Friday night to cook the sausages. However the real winner this season has been the bar I have had a group of "regulars" every Friday night being able to enjoy a beer or a wine has been a big hit with both mums and dads (and me!). We managed to raise $500 on the chook raffle and from post Christmas part of the season's BBQ profits so we have $500 to give the flood affected C&K childcare centre at Laidley. Division 1 Match Report - Saturday 19 March 2011 - Wynnum-Manly V Alexandra Hills at Kianawah Park Round 8 and the final game of the season had us playing Alexandra Hills at Kianawah Park. We won the toss and in light rain we put Alexandra Hills in to bat. The ball quickly became wet and became hard to bowl with. Two early wickets taken by Yenuk Watapuluwa put Alexandra Hills on the back foot. An excellent run out from a great piece of fielding by Todd Grooms reduced Alexandra Hills to 3/16. A good partnership developed for Alexandra Hills to see them through to 49 before Shaun O'Hehir broke the partnership in his first over. Josh Marley then broke through for 2 quick wickets. Alexandra Hills finished their 25 overs at 8/95. Our bowlers and fielders toiled away in deteriorating conditions. Josh Marley produced a great four over spell to take 4/5. Yenuk Watapuluwa's 4 overs claimed 2/13 and Shaun O'Hehir's 4 overs got 1/9. Lizzy Hayes's 3 overs of 0/5 also help to apply the pressure. Thomas King with a very sharp catch and Todd Grooms lead the fielding effort. Josh Muller, Shaun O'Hehir, Jeremy Taggart and Joel Fyffe all took good catches as the ball was now like a piece of soap and catching was difficult. After consultation with the opposition coach, we decided to play on in the rain to see how far we could get through the game. We lost an early wicket, then Luke Routledge (12no) did a fine job before being retired. The conditions really were bad by this time and we decided to try to get through to 15 overs to constitute a game. Realising we needed to be 57 after 15 overs to win Jeremy Taggart got 20 not out off 17 balls and Shaun O'Hehir got 17 not out off 13 balls with some hard hit boundaries to secured the win with 2/68 off 15 overs. By the time we finished at the15 over mark the rain was very heavy and conditions unplayable. The Division 1 team finished the post Christmas part of the season unbeaten and claimed the Division 1 championship. An excellent effort by the team who played to a high standard all season and showed great commitment at training and on Saturdays. We are very proud of the players for their total dedication to Division 1 this season. The team is a deserved winner of the competition. Thank you to all the players for your commitment and efforts this season. Thank you also to all the parents who have supported this team through the season. As always, thank you to Frank King for scoring this season, Michael O'Brien for his dedication to the cause and to Anne O'Hehir for her tireless work for the team. Chris O'Hehir (Division 1 Coach)

Wynnum Junior Cricket Results for Saturday 12 March 2011 After last Saturday's wet weather, this Saturday's games were thankfully mostly unaffected by rain. Reported results for the Wynnum Junior Cricket teams for Saturday 12 March 2011 are: BEARS Division 1 - One day game - Wynnum Manly 6/37 defeated Redlands Sharks 36 (Yenuk Watapuluwa 5/0, Josh Marley 2/1) BEARS Division 3 - One day game - Wynnum Manly 4/130 (Adriane Morrison 45no, Travis Holmes 27no) defeated Redlands Sharks (Matthew 3/9, Doug 2/8) EDJCA U12 - Day 1 of a Two day game - Wynnum Manly 3/61 (Jaymen 13no) V Holland Park 2/96 (Rutter 1/10) EDJCA U11 - Day 1 of a Two day game - Wynnum Manly V Mansfield - Results not reported EDJCA U10 - One day game - Wynnum Manly 6/134 (King 23, Mitchell 20) defeated by Mansfield White 16/118 (Hutchinson 1/5, Peiris 1/6) EDJCA U9 - One day game - Wynnum Manly Simpson 9/123 (Goodsell 18, Whittle 16) defeated Mansfield Grey 11/110 (Goodsell 2/16, Fury 3/7) EDJCA U9 - One day game - Wynnum Manly Poole 6/104 (McKay 13, Thompson 12) defeated Mansfield Black (Connolly 2/10, Waters 2/10) EDJCA U9 - One day game - Wynnum Manly Laughlin V Carina Blue - Results not reported Division 1 Match Report - Saturday 12 March 2011 - Wynnum-Manly V Redlands Sharks at Charlie Buckler Oval

Round 7 had Division 1 playing Redlands at Charlie Buckler Oval. With our captain and vice captain away playing senior grade cricket, Jeremy Taggart took over as captain for the day. Jeremy won the toss and we elected to bowl first on a wicket that had been uncovered all week. The wicket though did play well with no demons in the pitch. Once again Jeremy Taggart 0/5 and Josh Marley 2/11 did a great job in containing the opening batsmen and produced a lot of pressure on Redlands. Yenuk Watapuluwa came on at number 3 and destroyed Redlands with the amazing bowling figures of 5/0 bowling his 4 overs without coinciding a run

Page 3: President - Paul Wheeler Vice President - Chris Guilfoyle ...wynnummanlyjuniorcricketclub.com.au/wp-content/uploads/...Yenuk Watapuluwa's 4 overs claimed 2/13 and Shaun O'Hehir's 4

and taking 5 wickets. Josh Muller bowled his 4 overs very well ending up with 1/11. Lizzy Hayes took the last Wicket to finish with 1/2. Another great bowling performance by all the five bowlers we used, who were backed up with excellent fielding spearheaded by Todd Grooms with 2 catches. Michael Jonas also took 2 fine catches, Yenuk Watapuluwa with a great caught and bowled plus a great runout from a Luke Routledge throw and sharp keeping by P J Schofield highlighted another strong fielding effort. We bowled Redlands out for 36 off 17 overs. Chasing 37 to win we decided to change our batting order around and bat some players who have had less batting time than others. We got through to 11 losing 5 wickets on the way. Thomas King and Jeremy Taggart produced a good partnership to steer us home for the win off 13 overs to finish at 6/37. It became a bit harder than it should have been but it was a hard ask for our players with little batting time behind them to be thrown in at the deep end, but a chance for those players to have a bat and I had confidence the players would get the total in the end. Six wins from 6 games means we cannot be caught by the other teams and have won the Division 1 Post Christmas title. All that remains is motivation to win our last game and go through the season unbeaten: a task the players will be keen to achieve as they have great pride in the Division 1 team and the Wynnum Jersey.

Thank you again to the mighty Frank King our trusted Scorer, Michael O'Brien my excellent Assistant Coach and our Manager the amazing Anne O'Hehir. Also a big thank you to all our parents for their continued support of the team.

Chris O'Hehir (Division 1 Coach)

Once again the pitch was an excellent batting track. Mansfield won the toss and asked us to bat. A great opening partnership of 63 off 13 overs by Todd Grooms (35) and Thomas King (23) set us up for a great total when Thomas King was dismissed. Jeremy Taggart (36) produced another excellent contribution. When we eventually lost Todd Grooms and Jeremy Taggart the innings was then finished well by Theo Allen (18no) and Shaun O'Hehir (12no) to power us through to an excellent total of 3/146 off our 25 overs. With a big total to defend we started well. Shaun O'Hehir (0/12) produced a fiery spell, not claiming a wicket but beating the bat regularly. All our bowlers continued to bowl well as they have all season. Fine fielding and tight bowling created too much pressure for Mansfield. Theo Allen (3/8) produced a very fine spell of leg spin bowling. Yenuk Watapuluwa (3/18) and Lizzy Hayes (1/18) and Josh Marley, who in his first over wrapped up the tail to finish

Page 7: President - Paul Wheeler Vice President - Chris Guilfoyle ...wynnummanlyjuniorcricketclub.com.au/wp-content/uploads/...Yenuk Watapuluwa's 4 overs claimed 2/13 and Shaun O'Hehir's 4

with 2/0, all bowled very well. Jeremy Taggart (0/9) also bowled well to keep the pressure on. Our fielding was excellent: Todd Grooms with 3 catches, Joel Fyffe with his ground fielding and a screamer of a catch by Theo Allen highlighted a great team effort in the field. This Division 1 team continues to grow as a side and 5 wins from 5 games has set us up for a very good post Xmas season. As always thanks to Frank King, our reliable scorer, as we appreciate your time and efforts each week. Chris O'Hehir (Division 1 Coach) EDJCA 6-A-Side Fun Day 2011 - Sizzling Hot Cricket - Sunday 20 February 2011 Wynnum Junior Cricket had an U10 team, an U11 team and an U12 team participating at this 6-A-Side Fun Day at Whites Hill hosted by the Eastern Districts Junior Cricket Association (EDJCA). The article below comes from the EDJCA website. What a great day it was Sunday 20th February - clear blue skies, hot weather and 4 fields at Whites Hill resounding with the sound of leather on willow, the cheering crowd the excited shouts of "run, run - quick, get it in, bowler, bowler" and "howzat"!. A fabulous event for our fourth annual six-a-side fun day and well organised this year by Robert Baldi and the Mansfield Junior Cricket Club ably assisted by volunteers from all our 6 member clubs. The morning saw U-10's battle it out on the 3 gabba grass pitches with Mansfield Black coming out on top after 8 rounds. Well done boys and girls. After a super sausage sizzle at lunch and a welcoming cold drink, the U-11's took over the gabba grass for the afternoon with Villanova College boys coming out the winners. Congratulations Villa. The U-12's played all day on the turf wicket - what a thrill, playing on a real grass pitch - first time it has been available for this carnival - with Villanova again coming out on top, and also with their win in the U-11's took out the Club Champions trophy for the day. Well done boys. Our event had some special visitors during the day - Ross Vasta MP our federal member for Bonner, Cr Adrian Schrinner our local Councillor who has provided great support to EDJCA over the years toured in the morning and Cameron Dick MP our patron and state member for Greenslopes - also a great supporter of EDJCA and now parent in one of our member clubs where his son plays - toured in the afternoon. All up a great day of cricket - thanks to all the helpers, parents and supporters for making this another successful event. See http://www.qldcricket.com.au/clubs/default.asp?PageID=10196 for various photographs and match result from this fun day.

On arriving at the ground we inspected the pitch to find a pitch which was really rolled mud, so we were keen to bowl. Wynnum-Manly won the toss and elected to bowl. Once again our opening bowlers did a great job taking 3 early wickets. Shaun O'Hehir produced a double breakthrough finishing with 2/5 off his 4 overs and Yenuk Watapuluwa (1/12) claimed another to have Wellington Point 3/11 after 6 overs. Trent O'Brien followed and produced a fine spell of bowling taking 3/8. Josh Marley (1/12), Jeremy Taggart (1/10), Josh Muller (0/7) and Adriane Morrison (1/1), who was in his first Division 1 game, all bowled very well. All 7 bowlers did a great job restricting Wellington Point to 9/64 off their 25 overs. Our bowling has continued to be great all year restricting teams to low totals. Our fielding continues to grow each week. This week we held some very good catches in the field, with Joel Fyffe, Thomas King, Todd Grooms, Josh Marley and Michael Jonas all taking good catches. Adriane Morrison also held a

sharp caught and bowled. Chasing 65 to win Wellington Point bowled tightly through their first 9 overs to restrict us to 1/16. After losing an early wicket we took control of the match as Jeremy Taggart (36 not out) steered us to the total with a mixture of sound defence and some well struck boundaries. Thomas King (7) was solid supporting Jeremy until the target was close. We won the game in the 19th over to finish 5/66. A very good effort again from the Division 1 side to remain unbeaten after 4 games. Each week we grow as a team and become a stronger unit. Thank you once again to Michael O'Brien (Assistant Coach) and our reliable Scorer, Frank King, as always your help is much appreciated. Chris O'Hehir (Division 1 Coach)

Josh Marley settled in for his first bowling spell for us and did a fine job. Josh Muller, also in his first bowling spell in Division 1, bowled well. Wicketkeeper P J Schofield produced a smart stumping. Todd Grooms was excellent in the covers saving us some valuable runs. All our bowlers continue to be economical. Shaun O'Hehir (0/10) and Jeremy Taggart (0/10) have only conceded 2 runs per over on average so far this season.

A great opening stand of 44 between Todd Grooms (26 off 29 balls) and Thomas King (17 off 20) set us on the road to another win. Jeremy Taggart (20 off 24) and Shaun O'Hehir (24 off 24) with some big hitting boundaries saw us through to the total and we finished at 5/116 after our 25 overs. Three wins in a row has been a brilliant start to the post Xmas season. This team continues to grow each week. Once again thank you to our scorer Frank King and to Michael O'Brien (Assistant Coach) as your help is always appreciated. We turned up to find a perfectly prepared pitch. We won the toss and put Redlands Sharks Black into bat. Another very good opening spell from Shaun O'Hehir (2/10) and Yenuk Watapuluwa (1/12) reduced Redlands to 3/16 after 7 overs. Jeremy Taggart, back in our side after a pre Xmas break, produced a fine spell of 3 overs to

return 2/4. Theo Allen (2/20), including a brilliant caught and bowled, Lizzy Hayes (1/4) and Trent O'Brien (1/7) all kept the pressure on to bowl Redlands out for 63 in 21 overs. The 5 bowlers we have used over the first 2 weeks have been outstanding and teams have found it hard to survive the 25 overs. They have bowled very well as a unit. Our fielding is progressing and we will only get better. A great throw by Shaun O'Hehir from the boundary produced a sharp runout, with an assist from Theo Allen. Luke Routledge took 2 solid catches behind the stumps and Michael Jonas works hard in the field with his great throwing arm. Chasing the target our opening batsmen started steady to get us through to 0/30 before we retired Luke Routledge (14 no) and Thomas King (9 no). We steadily lost wickets through the rest of the innings. Josh Muller and Lizzy Hayes kept level heads to bat us through the last few overs to secure the victory with 7/64. Our batting is a work in progress, but it will steadily get better with time in the middle. Well done to the players in Division 1, with two wins from two games. It is a great start to the season. Thanks this week to Frank King for scoring, a key member of our group, and to Joe Fyffe for helping to umpire, as it's nice to have a break. If interested, please address all enquiries to Tony Cooper (M 0439 132 901 or E [email protected]) as Tony is the coaching director of EDJCA. Toys and Books Donations for the C&K Kindergarten at Laidley

One of our in2CRICKET volunteers is trying to help the C&K Kindergarten at Laidley get back in business after being totally inundated during the floods, with the centre losing absolutely everything. She has hired a container and is hoping to fill it with books and toys and would be very grateful of any donations. If anyone has any books or toys that they can donate to the Kindergarten could you please bring them to the Wynnum Cricket Clubhouse during our in2CRICKET Have a Go session this Friday night (4 February 2011) between 5.30 pm and 7.00pm. We had a awesome response to our recent cricket gear donations for flood ravaged families. I know once again that we are asking for donations, this time for toys and books, but it would really help these wee ones at Laidley to get some normality back into their lives after such a stress filled experience.

Match Report for Division 1 Wynnum V Cleveland - Saturday 29 January 2011 The first game of the post Christmas season for Division 1 saw Wynnum playing Cleveland away at Fitzroy Street. This being the first of the 8 one day games that make up the post Christmas season. Cleveland won the toss and put us into bat. We fought hard throughout the innings to post a very respectable 6/105 at the end of the 25 overs. An outstanding Captain's knock of 39 no by Theo Allen spearheaded our score. Luke Routledge scored 11 in his first game in Division 1 and, due to an injury, Luke was thrown into the opening role and looked solid. Trent O'Brien and Josh Marley, also in his first Division 1 game, showed solid support in the middle order. We produced an outstanding bowling effort. Yenuk Watapuluwa took our first wicket thanks to brilliant catch in the slips by our Skipper, Theo Allen. Shaun O'Hehir broke through next clean bowling the next batsman. Both Shaun O'Hehir (1/4) and Yenuk Watapuluwa (2/12) did a great job opening the bowling. Lizzy Hayes followed and produced an outstanding spell of bowling 3/9 - great to have you back Lizzy. Theo Allen (2/3) and Trent O'Brien (1/2) kept the pressure on the Cleveland side. All five bowlers were excellent. We gave away only 2 wides in the innings and just keep heaping the pressure onto Cleveland. The team fielded well helping the bowlers keep the pressure on. Cleveland was all out for 34. Overall a very promising start to the season and a good morale booster to all the new players who have moved up from lower Divisions. Special thanks to Michael O'Brien (Assistant Coach), Anne O'Hehir (Manager) and Frank King for scoring. Your help is much appreciated. Chris O'Hehir (Division 1 Coach)

Recent U16 Shane Watson and U15 Ray Weier Game Results for Wynnum

The south east Queensland regional / district U15 Ray Weier Cup and U16 Shane Watson Cup

competitions have started with performances in these games again being used as a key selection

consideration in the U15 and U16 BEARS representative teams for 2010. Recent results by the

Wynnum teams are:

U16 Shane Watson - Wynnum V Ipswich and West Moreton - Sunday 17 October 2010 - Played on

Wayne Broad Oval - In the end Wynnum didn't score enough runs 105 off 51 overs. Darcy Richardson

top scored with 43 and was looking good until he played across the line. Chris Carlton did a good job

opening he batted through 24 overs for his 11. Ipswich finished 10/168 off 50 overs. Sean Finnimore

bowled well (10 overs 3/23). Lachlan Brayley (2/23 off 7 overs). Shaun O'Hehir (1/14 off 6 overs). Jacob

Robbins (2/26 off 6 overs), Nick Johnson (1/15 off 6 overs) and Stuart MacDonald (1/8 off 5 overs) were

our other wicket takers. We dropped 4 catches which didn't help. But really the toss probably won the

game.

U16 Shane Watson - Wynnum V Northern Suburbs - Sunday 24 October 2010 - Played at Murwillumbah

- Wynnum bowled first and limited Northern Suburbs to 8/187 off 55 overs. Sean Finnimore got 4/34 off

11 overs and was ably assisted by Nick Johnson with 2/14 off 5 overs and Max Ward with 1/27 off 9

overs. The other wicket was run out. Wynnum chased down this score in 54 overs to end with 5/188.

Chris Charlton (34 runs) and Ben Jarrett (71 runs) got Wynnum off to a good start and set the required

foundation for the run chase. Darcy Richardson helped Wynnum get there with his contribution of 18

runs. Special mention goes to Stuart McDonald (selected as a change bowler and middle order

batsman) who had to do the wicketkeeping for much of the match as Jacob Robbins re-hurt his thumb.

U15 Ray Weier - Wynnum V Brisbane North Gold - Sunday 17 October 2010 - Played on Deagon -

Wynnum started with a loss. Just couldn't get enough runs. Wynnum batted first with a slow outfield to

be all out for 85 after 45 overs. Tom King was the star as he got 17 off 85 balls. He opened and stayed

there for 32 overs as he tried to hold things together. Steven Coutts also batted well to to get 19 runs

from 43 balls. James Rayner (new player from Perth) looked good during his breif stay of 6 runs from 14

Page 33: President - Paul Wheeler Vice President - Chris Guilfoyle ...wynnummanlyjuniorcricketclub.com.au/wp-content/uploads/...Yenuk Watapuluwa's 4 overs claimed 2/13 and Shaun O'Hehir's 4

balls. Wynnum held Brisbane North Gold to 10/152 off their 55 overs. Steven Coutts bowled very well to

take 2/19 off 11 overs. Joshua Santin also bowled well with 1/4 off 5 overs. Other wicket takers were:

Nathan Green 1/23 off 8 overs, Matthew Rutter 2/19 off 6 overs, with Tom King (2/14 off 4 overs) and

Todd Dawson (2/8 off 4 overs) coming on at the end to help clean things up a bit.

U15 Ray Weier - Wynnum V Metropolitan South West - Sunday 24 October 2010 - Played on Ian

Droney Oval - A very convincing win by Wynnum. After scoring 9/220 off 55 overs, Wynnum bowled

Metropolitan South West out for 11/75 from 30 overs. Tom King again starred with the bat batting

through the innings to score 71 not out off 177 balls. Tom got good support from Todd Dawson batting

at number 4 (40 runs off 41 balls) and from Matthew Hammelmann batting at number 10 (41 runs off 44

balls). The tenth wicket partnership of 67 runs between Tom King and Matthew Hammelmann was most

important to ensure that all the good early work wasn't undone. Wynnum's bowlers were magnificent

leaded by Matthew Hammelmann (4/6 off 6 overs) and Nathan Green (3/10 off 9 overs) and supported

by Matthew McNamara (2/3 off 2.2 overs) and James Rayner (1/12 off 3 overs). The bowling was also

well supported by the fielding with 9 catches taken (Steven Coutts 3 and Liam Hanley 4 behind the

stumps), a stumping by Liam Hanley and a run out by Joshua Herbert.

A Wet Week-end and Cancelled Cricket

Just to state the obvious, the wet weather all week-end caused the cancellation of the first night of

Wynnum Junior Cricket's in2CRICKET Have a Go Program on Friday 8 October 2010 and the first round

of junior cricket games over the week-end. Hopefully we can get some training sessions in during the

week so that we can try to get started this coming week-end.

Private Cricket Coaching Lessons with Sean Rebbetts

Sean Rebbetts, who is out from England to play cricket with the Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club, is

available to provide private cricket coaching to junior players during this cricket season.

Sean's coaching resume reads: I am an ECB qualified level 1 coach. I am in Australia from England to

coach and play cricket for the summer. I have a good level of playing experience and have learnt from

some fantastic coaches, predominantly at Loughborough University in the UK, where the head coach is

Graham Dilley. I would like to bring this together with my own experiences of coaching at an U14 age

group for a club team in England. As a player, I am an all rounder and this will therefore help me to

develop all areas of your game. I have played since I was 8, and played county age groups up to under

17. I currently play university cricket, which is a great standard and chose to come to Australia to

improve this even further. I love watching people improve, and since this is something I am also here to

do, we will have a common goal to get out of the coaching I offer. I offer an enthusiastic and committed

approach, and love working hard to get the best out of players.

Sean is available to do private coaching at the Wynnum Nets (Boundary Street, Tingalpa) or elsewhere

if suitable and available. Normally Sean would do 1 hour private sessions, although longer (i.e. 90

minutes) would also be fine. If someone prefers, they could split a cost between them, and Sean will

coach a small group - although about 3 would be the maximum if they want to get any real coaching out

of it. Sean's fee is $35 per hour.

Contact details for Sean Rebbetts are: M 0449 103 208 and E [email protected]

Trial Start to the Junior Cricket Season a Washout with no play in the Trial Games against

Redlands

The wet weather won yesterday (Sunday 3 October 2010) with the trail games for Wynnum's U15 Ray

Weier and U16 Shane Watson teams against Redlands both being washed out despite the venues

being shifted from the Carmichael Park ovals to the Redlands ovals at Wellington Point in a effort to

improve the chance of gaming. All to no avail in the end as both games were called off without the

wicket block covers being removed.

Club Chaplain The Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club has appointed a Club Chaplain for Season 2010/2011. The aim is for the club chaplain to assist with the personal well being of the players, coaches and supporters of the club. Whilst coaches specialise in the technical aspects of cricket Gareth Williams has been appointed as Club Chaplain to work with player's personal issues that arise. The role is similar to that of a school chaplain who offers a listening ear. As a Pastor of a local church Gareth has experience in pastoral care and helping people deal with grief and life issues. Though he has a religious framework by which he views the world he does not seek to impose this on people. He is happy to talk about spiritual matters if wanted. Gareth is not a professional counsellor so if issues become more than he can handle he will seek to refer a person to someone better qualified. Gareth is in the process of being accredited through Sports Chaplaincy Australia. He attended a training course in 2009 and received a Certificate in Sports Chaplaincy. He also holds a Blue Card #698502/3 that expires 11/2/2012. Gareth's aim is to get to know more of the players in the club so they feel like they could approach him if necessary. His contact details are available or players can talk to him at training. If any junior player (or their parents) wants to see Gareth in his role as Club Chaplain, please see your team coach and the necessary arrangements will be made. Benefits of Chaplaincy (from Sports Chaplaincy Australia). Some of the benefits of chaplaincy include:

• A way to deal with difficult community issues, discontent, drought, suicide

• Pro-active care of your members, players and staff

• Help during the difficult times of tragedy faced by individuals or the club as a whole, i.e. loss of a family member, accident or death of a team mate, difficult divorce, etc

• Someone to assist defuse and respond to personal problems faced by personnel, i.e. drugs, depression, anger, etc

• Someone neutral for players to talk to, offload, and be encouraged by

• A friend during the good and tough times in sport

• They show players, staff and families that 'The Club' cares for people

• Our chaplains help progress a rich, positive and vibrant community Another Congratulations to Lizzy Hayes Lizzy Hayes, following the win by her U18 Queensland Women's Indoor Cricket team at the recent National Indoor Cricket Championships in Adelaide, was named in the U18 Australian Women's Indoor Cricket team. Queensland Cricket announces changes to the U17 and U19 Brisbane Competitions for the 2010-2011 Cricket Season The Board of Queensland Cricket has advised that for the 2010-2011 Cricket Season, the Brisbane U19 and the U17 Lord's Taverners competitions will be discontinued and replaced with an U18 competition. More details about the structure and format of this U18 competition are yet to be announced but it is likely that it will be similar to the former U17 Lord's Taverners competition, which was played pre-Christmas on Sundays. Queensland Cricket's reasons for these decisions are as follows: The Board has given consideration to the youth competitions within the current Premier Grade setup, including feedback from the Clubs, State Selectors and the Game Development and High Performance Departments of Queensland Cricket in relation to the Under 19 competition in particular. The Under 19 competition in the format that it was held last season did not significantly contribute to the State selection processes in this age group, particularly given that there are now opportunities for Under 19 players to participate in limited overs cricket as part of the Senior Men's Grades. Similarly, feedback from end of season Club Reviews has suggested that this competition is no longer vital for player development for a majority of the Clubs. Therefore, the Board has decided to discontinue the Under 19 competition and replace the Lord's Taverners Under 17 competition with an Under 18 competition. This is seen as a logical option to improve the standard of cricket for Under 17 players given that the Under 19 competition will be withdrawn.
