Dayna Manning SINGER/SONGWRITER • PRODUCER • AUTHOR • MENTORJuno nominated artist Dayna Manning exemplifies the very best that Canadian Folk music can be. Her cool clear voice along with her insightful songs represent a history of Canadian musical art that goes back to the early ’60s and sounds just as vital today. A modern do-it-all renaissance artist, Dayna just released her self-produced seventh album “Morning Light”with the help of Stratford Festival alum-nus Ben Bolt-Martin arranging for chamber orchestra. In 2019 she also penned her first book “Many Moons: A Songwriter’s Memoir”. In 2016 Dayna founded the “Folk Army”, a private music instruction academy in Stratford Ontario. The Folk Army’s mission is to empower young girls to make a positive change in their communities through creativity, thoughtful performance and positive self-esteem. Dayna will share her experience as a singer and mentor and talk about the importance of “looking after“ our voices, tips and trick to warm up, maintain, strengthen and increase our range to improve our longevity in our auctioneering careers.

The Fun Auction is an opportunity to let everybody relax and socialize. Like last year, we are going to play some mystery box games. As we did last year, we made 5 boxes of goods that will be sold to the highest bidder. In one box there will be $200 in AAO bucks, and nobody will know, not even me. These boxes will be sold on choice but the highest bidder can only take one as this will give opportunities for auctioneers to sell items. The AAO bucks can be used in the fun auction or the banquet auction.

For a number of years Vernon Bailey envisioned a show that con-sisted of a evening of poetry and song. He took his time mustering up the courage to put such a show together. He finally got the ball rolling and a date for the inaugural show was set for February of 2018. Discussing his idea with a friend and local musician John McClenaghan the two teamed up as a performing duo. They were both of like mind, in that all proceeds from their performances would be donated to or on behalf of worthwhile charities in and around Sault Ste. Marie and area. The first show was assembled based on the poetry of Robert Service. The show was given the title “Call of the Wild” and proved to be a huge success. It has been presented 6 times since February 2018 with yet another show scheduled for February 2020. Fueled by everyone’s acceptance of “Call of the Wild” a second show was conceived. Vernon’s farming roots run deep so the second show assembled centering around those roots. If you are familiar with the Woodbridge Advertiser “Ontario’s Auction Paper” you may see articles from time to time by Mr. Bailey under the column heading “Life on the Farm”. So as you may have already guessed the next evening of poetry and song was entitled “Life on The Farm{Love of the Land}.” This show is largely based on the poetry of a Northern Ontario farmer named Charlie Smith. Again, Vernon and John teamed up for local charities and presented this show. Life on the Farm has been performed three times to date. The two shows combined have now raised over $ 21,000.00 and have been seen by 1,500 people. The board of directors of the Auctioneer’s Association of Ontario have asked Vernon to present “Life on the Farm”{Love of the Land} at this year’s annual convention taking place in Woodstock, ON February 27th through March 1st, 2020. The show will take place at the awards banquet on Saturday, February29th.

Our communications committee has been branching out lately with the help of our new-est board member, Nathan Slik, as well as our committee head Michael Peever. We have since created an Instagram page to not only broadcast our work and events as an organization, but to also help us target a younger audience as well as create a broader influence/recognition with regards to the auction community. We are also creating a YouTube channel which will be func-tional for the 2020 competition in order to post videos of competitors and our competition to not only promote the talent within our organization but also to promote the individuals participating in our competition. This provides a resource for individuals to refer back to for future reference as well as promote themselves. It also provides the organization with free publicity opportunities. You can find us on Instagram as our page name is auctioneerassociation, we encourage you to follow us and tag us via our name or #auctioneer-associationOntario.
