————————————————————————————————--
The major item of news this month is sadly, the break-in which occurred a few weeks ago. In the last break-in the robbers failed to remove the safe which was bolted to the wall. They came prepared this time so removed the safe and damaged the concrete wall and cupboard beside it. Nothing in the safe, which had been given to us and is available for $30 in Bunnings. A futile exercise.
The thieves came in after unscrewing a screen, bending it back and removing the louvres- more damage. However taking our small computer used for EFTPOS was a blow. Apart from utilising the pre-paid internet before it was stopped, the computer is a big item for us to replace.
Bolt cutters were used on the padlock at the store where tables, chairs, and a bin are stored. Just another unnecessary expense to replace that item as there was nothing of use for the destructive burglars..
The ice creams, ice blocks, and drinks were possibly enjoyed before the frozen goods melted away -lets hope they were not wasted.
Realise many people in Batchelor have suffered from break-ins over the past few years. Such a pity that this small and beautiful town has to cope with the destructive and malicious happenings. Definitely not the Batchelor township so loved by many people over many years.
The museum is closed for now, apart from the people making special requests and so assuredly there is no money there. We don’t have cigarettes or alcohol stored there ever.
Repairs have been undertaken and sadly, there will be other steps taken to protect our building from more damage.
Maybe the people involved should offer assistance with what is a Community Asset – and then they would have pride in it and in themselves.
Yes, we could do with help with small jobs so try something positive instead.
Apart from the problems we remain positive for next year, and have some special openings for visitors here for the commemoration service of the Bombing of Darwin. Before hand we will have a working bee and any extra hands will be welcome.
On Wednesday I attended the launch of Kathy Mills book re Jack Mc Ginness- a great turnout at the NT library and a good chance for many people to connect. Jack’s brother, Joe, is featured in the Museum beside the story of their Mother Alyandabu-(spelled variously)
Hopefully more information can be added to this display next year.
Cheers, Jan Hills, President.
DONATIONS to BATCHELOR
MUSEUM
Whilst the Batchelor Museum is primarily an interpretive one, we have been given some wonderful display items. When you visit you will see the name on the ob-ject and the person who has donated it- some of the notices are yet to be done.
Items must be given permanently to the Museum and there is a form which we will have available- the format given to us from the Military Museum in Darwin, please be aware this is a common policy of museums.
Be proud of the Museum – it will showcase the unique town of Batchelor and will be a valuable resource to bring visitors from all over.

Hi Library Friends
With the hot weather and long tiring last few weeks of term upon us, there is no nicer place in Adelaide River than Library to rest, read, relax and see your friends.
Our opening hours will stay the same for the end of term 4 and throughout the Christmas holidays. The only change is that we will be closed Boxing Day, Thursday the 26th December.
We will be able to spread ourselves out a bit more once school finishes and are happy to do some crea-tive art and craft projects during the school break. Just ask Miss H, Lance or Lucinda for some help if you would like to make presents, cards or decorations for the Festive Season.
We are in the process of ordering new resources for the Library and invite requests for new items to be added to our collection. Just let the staff know what is on your wish list. All our fiction, non-fiction, audio books and DVDs are available for borrowing.
Library staff would like to remind families that we welcome and encourage all our children to enjoy the Library. However, we need send a reminder that we are not a babysitting or childcare service. Children under five years old must have an adult actively supervising their visit at all times.
Children 8 years and older can come to the Library by themselves and we are proud to say that the older children that spend time with us are always kind to each other, polite, respectful, look after the little kids, and are a joy to have around. We love you guys.
Please phone 89767069 during library hours if you have any ques-
tions or requests. We look forward to seeing you.
