XXX Originated in 1974, SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center was created as an alternative to the traditional animal welfare system with a mission of improving the lives of stray animals and promoting pet adoption. Annually, SICSA places over 2,000 dogs and cats, performs over 4,000 spay/neuter surgeries. In June of 2019, SICSA acquired a pet food business known as Pet Wants Dayton, the proceeds of which directly benefit the organization. Repeatedly awarded the Platinum Seal by Guide Star, and 4 stars by Charity Navigator, the organization runs a Pet Adoption and Wellness Center in Washington Township at 8172 Washington Church Road. This means SICSA “outperforms most other charities in America”, according to Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. Charity Navigator is a widely utilized and highly reputable evaluator of charities, inspecting factors such as financial health, transparency, and accountability. According to Charity Navigator, only 5% of evaluated charities have received at least eight consecutive 4-star evaluations. Beyond the overall 4-star rating, SICSA earned 4-star ratings in both Financial, and Accountability & Transparency categories individually. Upon awarding SICSA this honor, Thatcher stated, “Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in (their) area of work.” In addition to this, SICSA also received a Platinum rating from GuideStar. According to their website, GuideStar is the world’s largest source of information on nonprofit organizations. This honor is also based on commitment to transparency and accountability. Nora Vondrell, President and CEO of SICSA stated that “We are humbled to earn these ratings, as we take the financial obligation we have to our community very seriously. Every dollar that is donated to our organization goes directly towards helping the animals in our care.” SICSA is known for their commitment to animal welfare and humane education in the Dayton area. In 2019, SICSA placed over 2,000 pets into loving homes, and our Veterinary Clinic provided over 4,700 spay and neuter surgeries.
