Principal’s Chat
Today marks the beginning of week 5 of a very long eleven week term.
This week our students in Grade 3 and 5 will sit the NAPLAN tests.
NAPLAN is a National Assessment Program used to measure whether or
not young Australians are meeting important educational outcomes in
literacy and numeracy. NAPLAN is one aspect of our school assessment
and reporting process and results are read in conjunction with our
ongoing assessments throughout the year. All students will participate in
tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and
punctuations) and numeracy.
This week we welcome two student teachers from LaTrobe University.
Laura will be working in Helen’s room and Cameron is in with Brett. Kylie,
from Swinburne University, has also been working in the grade Prep room
with Bernadette.
Last week we celebrated Mother’s Day
with a very special afternoon tea. We
had chocolate cake, cookies, rocky road,
vanilla slice and brownies amongst other
things, all lovingly prepared by the
students. Mums and other special
friends
were
waited
on and served the delicious treats by the
children and also received lovely pot
plants that the children had made in Art.
A fun afternoon was had by all.
Congratulations to the 5 lucky mums
who won a lovely plant in the classroom
raffles.
Grade Prep – Ethan’s mum, Naomi
Grade 1/2 – Maggies mum, Megan
Grade 2/3 – Abby and Holly’s mum, Katrina
Grade 4 – Erem’s mum, Jo

Next week is Education Week and we have a range of activities
happening including netball for grades 3-6, an Open Day for prospective
families on Wednesday 20th, Open Maths classrooms for all interested
parents on Friday 22nd
and also a parent information forum with Lyn Watts
on Wednesday 20th. Lyn is an educational consultant who is now is her
second year of working at Maldon Primary school. I strongly encourage
all of our parents to come along to the forum with Lyn to learn about what
is happening in classrooms and how you can assist your child at home.
The forum begins at 6.30pm.
Kind regards Jodie

What’s happening in the classroom?
Cooking for Mother’s Day: All classes cooked up a storm last week in preparation for the Mother’s
Day afternoon tea. Brett’s class made chocolate caramel brownie and white chocolate with cranberries,
Danica’s class prepared vanilla slice, Helen’s class whipped up chocolate chip cookies and apple
cinnamon tea cake, John’s class produced rocky road and savoury nibbles and Bernadette’s class
made chocolate cake with whipped cream. Lots of work went into ensuring classrooms looked fantastic
and mum’s were pampered and spoilt!

National Family Reading Month: Don’t forget to read every day and record the number of minutes you read
