One of the most beautiful devotions in our Catholic faith is the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We honor Mary’s Immaculate Heart by recognizing her holiness and her deep love and devotion to the heart of Jesus. Through her heart, our devotion unites us with God. When we are consecrated to her Immaculate Heart, we must completely involve ourselves in the devotion by giving reparation for the suffering of her Son. The most moving symbol in most images of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is that of Jesus’ actual heart pierced by thorns that represent the crown of thorns.

AUGUST 2 , 2020 Immaculate Heart of Mary

Two great books to Consecrate yourself to the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

33 Days to Morning Glory Currently one of the most popular methods of Marian consecration, this book by Father Michael Gaitley takes you through 33 days of 5-minute readings, to prepare your heart to be consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is a method based on St. Louis de Montfort’s writings and simplified so that anyone can participate.

True Devotion to Mary: with Preparation for Total Consecration St. Louis de Montfort is widely known as the principal advocate for what he calls, “Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary.” This is the traditional approach that has been used by many since the saint’s death. It includes numerous prayers, litanies and readings to be read in preparation for Total Consecration. St. John Paul II was an avid supporter of St. Louis de Montfort and even made Montfort’s words apart of his papal motto.

on Sat., 7/19/2020.

2 | WELCOME CHILD OF GOD. Welcome Addi-

sonn Jane Barger, daughter of Andrew and Caitlin

3 | NEW SERVER. At SMSJ a new server has started

his ministry. Little George Corvey has started serving

at SMSJ. The only struggle we had to overcome in

allowing George to serve was that we couldn’t find a

cassock his size. We found a means to make it work

by stapling it up for now. George is doing a great job!

4 | CROPS. The last couple of weeks I have been

talking about my 2 acres crops that I have nurtured

to existence on my piece of land in Ripley, Ohio.

The intention of the crops is to attract wildlife to

my property. I have inserted a picture of the crops,

thus far.

5 | TREASURES. Last week I was talking about

treasures in the Pastor’s Corner and it reminded me

of the fun treasures we collected at our flea market. I

missed setting up this year and seeing all of the

wonderful treasures everyone would drop off. Here is

a peek at one of the past flea markets where I put

some treasures together!

New Approach to Religious Education and Sacramental PreparationThis year our pastoral region will be embarking on a journey to embrace a new approach to religious education and faith formation for both children and parents. This new approach is titled Family of Faith. Family of Faith will be the ordinary means of religious education for ALL children and parents in each parish of our Eastside Pastoral Region. It is a complete replacement for PREP (Parish Religious Education Program) and is the new avenue in which all children in the region, regardless of their parish or if they attend Catholic grade school or not, will prepare for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation

The philosophy of Family of Faith is rooted in the empowerment and equipping of parents to serve as the primary catechists of their children. This is completed by having one live Sunday session per month held at St. Cecilia Parish on the second Sunday of the month where the children are in the classrooms with a parish catechist, and the parents are with our parish leadership team. During the parent lesson, parents are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to share the Catholic faith with their families using the activities and lessons found in the parent guide. The goal is to ignite a flame of love for God in the domestic Church, the family.

THE DETAILS:• Session 1 on Sun., Sept. 13, 2020 from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM• Sessions on the second Sunday of each month from Sept.–May• We encourage everyone to go to the 10 AM Mass, followed by Donut Sunday at 11:15 AM. Children and parents then split for their

respected sessions from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM• A parent guide is given to each family as well as a student activity book for each child• We will have a Spanish track available for Spanish-speaking families• This program is 100% FREE

To register for Family of Faith, please go to our www.eastsidefaith.org/fof and fill out the online registration form. If your child is receiving a sacrament, you must provide a copy of their baptismal certificate.

If you are interested in teaching for our Family of Faith program, please contact Cody Egner, [email protected] or 513-871-5757, ext. 215. VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children training is required by time of first class. This is an amazing opportunity to share your faith with the children of our parish. This great opportunity would require only a monthly commitment to teach one of the classes on Sunday mornings. We are in need of the following:

• 2 more people for the babysitting section (1-2 year olds), two Preschool catechists (3-4 year olds), one 3rd/4th Grade Catechist, and one 5th/6th Grade catechist.

The first class is on September 13 and meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month from September-May from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM

FALL 2020 FAITH FORMATION OPPORTUNITIESCatholicism 101: An Introduction to CatholicismOur regional RCIA program, Catholicism 101, is accepting new inquirers of the faith! If you have been thinking about becom-ing Catholic, or know someone that has, please register for this program! Catholicism 101 is a dynamic approach that studies the fundamental teachings of the Catholic faith. We invite ALL of you to register for this amazing program. This is the perfect program for a first-time inquirer of the faith as well as for a seasoned Catholic who simply wishes to brush up on Church teaching. We guarantee that everyone will learn something new about Christ, His Church, and her teachings. Our first class is on Wednesday September 9 at 7 PM in the St. Cecilia Commons.

For all questions and to register, please contact our Regional Director of Religious Education, Cody Egner, at [email protected] or 513-871-5757, ext. 215.

Fall Bible Study: Peter – Cornerstone of CatholicismA 10-week study featuring Dr. Tim Gray | Cost: $25

Two sections available, both on Mondays: • 12:30 PM – 2 PM at St. Margaret-St. John Parish (Rectory) • 7 PM – 8:30 PM at St. Cecilia Parish (Commons)

The character of St. Peter is both inspiring and confounding to many of us. How could a stubborn and impulsive fisherman become the “rock” upon which Jesus would build his Church? Bringing together biblical accounts, historical evidence, Church teaching, classical art, and personal insights, Dr. Tim Gray gives a fresh perspective on Simon Peter that is immediately informative and relevant to our lives. After all, if Jesus could bring out the very best in someone like Peter, then there is hope for the rest of us.

To register, visit the regional website, www.eastsidefaith.org/ peter and fill out the digital registration form at the bottom of the page. Direct all questions to our DRE, Cody Egner.

Surviving Divorce: Hope & Healing for the Catholic FamilyA FREE 12-week series featuring Rose Sweet Tuesdays from 7 PM – 8:30 PM at St. Cecilia School (facilitat-ed by Stephanie Ramsey)

Marriage is meant to last a lifetime. Most engaged couples approach their wedding days fully believing and intending this. Sadly, however, too many hearts and homes end up experiencing the pain of divorce. This often brings about unexpected and unimaginable heartache, questions, and challenges. Is healing possible? Yes! That’s the good news this program offers.

Surviving Divorce was created to bring hope and healing to those who have experienced the pain and lone-liness of a broken marriage. It is for the newly separated and divorced and those still struggling with issues

many years later. It will help them answer their questions, restore hope, and begin authentic healing.

This program will help you work through the emotional upheaval of separation and divorce, find personal healing and hope, discov-er a deeper understanding of God’s love for you, gain wisdom and comfort from experts and others who share your experiences and navigate new concerns like custody, court hearings, and finances.

To register, visit the regional website, www.eastsidefaith.org/surviving-divorce and fill out the digital registration form at the bottom of the page. Direct all questions to Stephanis Ramsey, [email protected]

Latin MassEvery Tuesday we have a traditional Latin Mass at St. Cecilia at 9:00 AM. We will soon have a new Mass booklet with the Latin right above the English translation to help you better follow along. We will let you know when those arrive.

The Brotherhood is a men’s group that meets on the first Saturday (for 7:30 AM Rosary on Madison Road) and the third Thursday (8PM for chanted vespers, or evening prayer, and fellowship) of each month at St. Cecilia Parish in Oakley. Grow in holiness and friendship with like-minded men. New brothers from anywhere are always welcome to join the ranks. No experience with the Rosary or Liturgy of the Hours is needed. Consider joining as well as inviting other men who are looking for ways to grow closer to Jesus, through Mary. Contact Deacon Nathan Beiersdorfer ([email protected]) or Nathan Cinefro ([email protected]) to learn more.

Pray the rosary. Witness your faith.

Altar of Repose: What is the story behind it? Last week we looked at the histories of the different components of the new altar of repose. This week we look at the final stages of the project as it was going from just a design on paper done by Deacon Louis and Tony to bringing in professional to finish the job during the suspension of public masses.

As mentioned in previous weeks, Deacon Louis and Tony began to design the altar mid-June of 2019. By the end of June, they were going to Home depot and Lowe’s to find what they had at their disposal to make the design a reality. They had never done anything like this before and it took a lot of talking through ideas in the aisles of Home Depot. Materials were taken to St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, where Tony was staying for the summer so that work could be done in the maintenance shop there. Many late nights were spent in the shop ordering pizza and assembling and reassembling the two components they worked on first.

Towards the end of summer, the two side pieces were built and taken here to the parish to be painted in the old church. The paint was recommended by Todd Brausch, who would be brought in later to finish the paint job with marbleizing and gold trim. The two side pieces were the first phase of the altar project. The goal was to finish the phase by the Feast of Corpus Cristi and were in place temporarily for Jake and Amber Calahan’s wedding the week before. Christmas was beautiful with the first phase completed and excitement was building for the remaining phases.

After Christmas Ken Jackson, the maintenance man for the pastoral region, took the project on and removed the components completed by the seminarians to work on in his shop. After the suspension of public Masses, work was able to be accomplished without stopping for Mass. Ken followed the original design done by the seminarians and made it a reality. Todd Brausch was then brought in to finish the project. He marbleized the columns with airbrushing and painted the trim and parts of capitals with gold flake. With the painting completed the project was finished and ready for the parish to return to Mass and worship of God in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
