Revel2013

Page 2: Print ready

Welcome to Nanny Knight’s Revel 2013.

Following the success of the Olympic / Jubilee week last yearwe have decided to create another week of events for thepeople of North Tawton. After careful consideration we havedecided to recreate an age old event that was last held inNorth Tawton some one hundred years ago. Our historybooks tell us that Nanny Knight’s Revel was a time for thewhole community to come together. Records tell of NannyKnight being an old lady who went missing, the people ofNorth Tawton came together and searched high and low onlyto find her (eventually) safe and well. From that time onNanny’s family celebrated the event with the Town. In 2013we will be recreating games that were played as part of therevel almost one hundred years ago.

We hope that you will join in the fun and games and make theevents in 2013 something that Nanny would be proud of.

Did you know?In Norman times North Tawton was known as Tawetona(Tawland in the Domesday Book). Later, in 1270, it is calledCheping Tauton. The name Tawton means ‘farmstead on thesilent water’.
