Comfort cooling systems lacks the precision and controls required for modern server room hardware. Yet, smaller server and computer rooms don’t always have the space to install large air conditioners. The Airedale EasiCool™ process cooler is the perfect system for smaller server/data room spaces.

• Comfort cooling and heat-pump systems are engineered for intermittent use for people and their surroundings.

• Comfort cooling units remove heat (sensible cooling) and humidity (latent cooling) with only 60 ~ 70% of their total cooling capacity being able to reduce the temperature and 30 ~ 40% is wasted drying the air out!

• Conversely process coolers use 95 ~ 100% of their total capacity reducing the temperature and are therefore more suited to the high heat loads produced by IT equipment without excessively drying the air (which can cause static electricity problems).

• This means process coolers are designed to regulate the temperature & humidity within precise margins more efficiently.

• Airflow through the server rack is crucial to ensure cooling without “hot spots” which can cause premature server failure. Process coolers have a more effective air flow pathway at double the air volume for getting the cold air to where it’s required.

• Comfort air conditioners have limited air flow pathways and lower air volumes to prevent drafts for people comfort. A major disadvantage in a server room cooling application.

• Process coolers also have high efficiency air filtration systems to capture fine particles of dust and dirt that have a detrimental effect on the life of IT equipment. Comfort air conditioners do not have the level of protection needed.

• Often comfort air conditioners cannot provide cooling within the server room when the ambient outdoor temperature temperatures are below 10degrees Celsius and are only designed to operate 8 hour days, 5 day weeks IE; < 2,000 hours per year.

• Process coolers are designed and manufactured to operate 24/7 for 365 days per year regardless of outside weather conditions IE; 8,760 hours per year.

• Often comfort air conditioner suppliers will not guarantee the unit performance in an IT cooling application, nor provide warranty against product failure.

• Conclusion: Business critical IT equipment have unique environmental requirements that necessitates designed and manufactured fit for purpose systems that can provide protection against premature and costly failures.
