4. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 1981 - 2002

By 2002, I had served as a teacher for 21 years in the education department, 13 years in the

old Department of Education and Training and 8 in the Gauteng Department of Education. In

the former dispensation I served as a Mathematics teacher in Standards 5 and 6, IsiZulu in

Standard 7, and Geography in Standards 7 – 10. I also served as Head of Department in the

Senior Primary Phase, Deputy Principal and Acting Principal at a Primary School. I further

served as District Education Coordinator (later renamed Institutional Development and Support

Officer) at the Sedibeng East District Office. It is at this level that I demonstrated managerial

and leadership skills, including refining my organisational, analytical and report-writing skills.
