Methods. Huy partnered with Anthony, a
student at Galindo Elementary, and together
they used innovative technologies to apply
lessons about memoirs to create a graphic
novel about Anthony’s life. It was a real-world
experience that linked Anthony and Huy
through an authentic learning partnership.

Uteach Urban Teachers (UTUT) is a unique program that prepares
non-Education majors for careers as English and Social Studies educators.
Graduates, who earn in-depth content degrees in a variety of fields, will be
equipped to thrive in the context of urban schools. UTUT is a Texas teacher
certification program for grades 7 – 12 that focuses on the diverse linguistic
and cultural resources students bring into the classroom.

• FIGs (First-Year Interest Groups) & TRIGs (Transfer Interest Groups) are cohorts of
up to 20 first-year students who share some classes and attend weekly seminars

knowledgeable about campus and college resources. PEP students are available to
their peers to assist with the transition to UT and provide academic support.
