WATER POWER
Worldwide, about 20% of all electricity is generated by hydropower.
Canada is the first largest producer of hydropower in the world and the USA is the second.
Norway produces more than 99% of its electricity with hydropower, New Zealand uses hydropower for 75% of its electricity.
In the US, it produces enough electricity to serve the needs of 28 million residential customers.
Hydropower is clean, prevents 22 billion gallons of oil or 120 million tons of coal being burnt each year, does not produce greenhouse gases or other air pollution, leaves no waste behind and is the leading source of renewable energy.
It is the most efficient way to generate electricity, does not experience rising or unstable fuel costs.
Installing turbines in existing dams presents a promising and cost-effective power source.
