E A cuckoo is calling; a creek whispering and shafts of sunlight are twinkling between the fir trees like the precious gold of a gem or that of a perfect smile. Life can hardly be any more beautiful than in the Black Forest.

Dear Doctor

Welcome to our home town. 2017 is a special year for FORESTADENT. As a family owned company we celebrate our 110th anniversary. Coming from fabrication of unique pieces of jewellery we have evolved over time to a man-ufacturer of high precision dental products for ortho-dontics. The Black Forest, is one of the most beautiful holiday regions of the world, where we have spanned the bridge between tradition and modernity. Join us on a trip through 250 years of tradition in the Goldtown Pforzheim, a trip to tomorrow and through Black Forest tradition. This is a very special occasion for FORESTADENT and we thank you for joining us to have an insight into three centuries of tradition and a glance into the future.

Your sincerely

BLACK FOREST

The Black Forest is one of the most disarming holiday regions and offers something for each and every taste. Embedded in a nature which is breath-taking in it‘s morning mist and with sunsets that create pleasant anticipation of the coming day. Once it was kings coming to the Black Forest and today it is style-loving people from all over the world. You can indulge in the many old traditions but also just enjoy solitude and silence.

PFORZHEIMThe Goldtown Pforzheim is often called the gateway to the Black Forest. For 110 years our family owned company has been based here. From here one can climb the lush green mountains, look into en-chanting valleys or take a bath in hot springs.

Pforzheim is located on the northern edge of the Black Forest and idyllically situated at the junction of the three rivers Enz, Nagold and Würm. Origi-nally a Roman settlement, the first reference to the city was found in documents of Emperor Henry IV going back to the year 1067. With a population of 120.000 people, Pforzheim is the 8th biggest city in the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg.

The Black Forest.Pristine nature, charming towns.

History can be experienced up close in Pforzheim’s Technology Museum and on the short ride to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Maulbronn Monastery you can catch a glimpse of heaven in our beautiful landscape.

Mesial space closure is an attractive method for resolving malocclusions associated with agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisors, because it avoids prosthetic implants. Key factors for success are anchorage control, detailed finishing and interdisciplinary cooperation with the restorative dentist. The lecture shows keyliterature, respects the traditional approach, critically reflects up to date “high-tech” and discusses some personal failures.

Dr. Björn Ludwig

Non-Compliance Space Closure – Tradition, History, Literature, Hightech, and Failures!

Esthetics, function and stability are main targets in successful ortho-dontic treatment. Getting there in phase 1 is compromised by the selection of appliances, but mostly by the lack of cooperation. The aim of this clinical presentation is to suggest protocols, tools and techniques leading to more predictable treatment results and higher success rates.

Dr. Dalia Latkauskiené

Treatment of malocclusions in mixed dentition: Targets, Tools, Techniques in Baltic region.

This course will review Class III treatment. The general concepts of diagnosis and treatment planning of Class III cases will be presented based on soft tissue, dental and skeletal parameters. Case presentations will then be evaluated relative to early treatment, full banded non-surgical treatment and surgical treatment.

Dr. Richard McLaughlin

Overview of Class III Treatment.

SPEAKERS

The philosopher Karl Popper wrote „ Whenever a theory appears to you as the only possible one take this as a sign that you have neither understood the theory nor the problem which it was intended to solve“. I feel this applies perfectly to the topic of TMD and occlusion. To say that the teeth and or condyle position play a minor role in the pathogenesis of TMD makes hardly any sense if you look at the inter-

relationship of all the structures of the stomatognathic system. I am aware that the literature supports these findings concerning the occlusion (condyle position) and TMD however the vast majority of the studies report on the static relationship of the teeth which in no way reflects the true nature of how the system functions. In this presentation I will explain not the static but the dynamics of the stomatognathic system and how this relates to the TMJs and in some instances can be a key factor in the development of TMD. Finally I will justify how orthodontics can prevent TMD by establishing a condyle position in harmony with the teeth.

Dr. Domingo Martin

Condyle Position, Occlusion and TMD.

Treating patients affected by hypodontia poses particular biome-chanical challenges to the orthodontists. This practically orientated presentation focuses on contemporary aspects of interdisciplinary treatment planning, involving dental specialists in prosthodontics, oral surgery, paediatric dentistry as well as periodontology. Dental implants will also be covered. Particular emphasis will be paid to the

biomechanical issues treating hypodontia patients as well as the interphase between orthodontics and the restorative treatment phase. The talk draws on 15 years of personal experience working in a multidisciplinary dental team in the biggest Dental Hospital in Europe.

Dr. Dirk Bister

Contemporary treatment of hypodontia: 15 years of experience working in a multidisciplinary team.

Dr. Ronald Roncone

Orthodontic Technology – A Contrarian View. What kind of intraoral scanner do you have? What do you do to in-crease the speed of treatment? Do you use Robotics to place brackets …to bend wires? Incredible technologic advancements!! However, how useful are they in helping ortodontists deliver better treatment to our patients? This presentation will show what technologies are absolutely indispensable to the diagnosis, planning and treatment of each and

every patient. They may be somewhat different than what you think!

Orthodontic treatment of adult patients without periodontal health consideration has high risk of gum recession and root resorbtion within treatment and in posttreatment period as well. We present the result of a 9-year survey – treatment and diagnostic strategy for patients with gum recession and dentoalveolar abnormalities, which consents to minimize further progressing of periodontal disease. The

planning and execution of retreatments of patients with complications also will be presented.

Dr. Ekaterina Kirsanova

This presentation will discuss state of the art in the area of acceler-ating orthodontic tooth movement thereby reducing treatment time. Emphasis will be on evidence based information related to the role of new age brackets, wires, TADs and mechanical devices as well as surgi-cal intervention in reducing treatment time.

Prof. Dr. Ravindra Nanda

Advances in Accelerating Orthodontic Tooth Movement: Meeting of Technology and Biology.

Prof. Dr. Andrea Wichelhaus

Torque transmission - a myth?In straight wire therapy, the axial inclination of the anterior and pos-terior teeth is of high importance. According to Andrews, the crown torque of the anterior and posterior teeth indicates the angle between the facial axis and the clinical crown (FACC) and a perpendicular line to the occlusal plane. This is a passive approach which has been tried to dynamise in different straight wire techniques (Roth, Ricketts,

McLaughlin). However, torque is a moment and not a prescription. With regard to a rec-tangular slot geometry, the question remains open whether torque is a myth. Torque as moment is not solved in straight wire therapy. Depending on individual biomechanics, experimental studies show which moments arise with different bracket and archwire combinations and which torque angle is required for the individual types of brackets.

Dr. John Bennett

Treatment mechanics after second premolar extractions. This presentation will take an in-depth look at case selection when extraction of second premolars is being considered. It will show an updated approach, taking advantage of sectional mechanics in prepa-ration for full-arch mechanics. This relatively new treatment method will be explained using a selection of stage-by-stage treated cases.

SPEAKERS

The aim of the present clinical lecture is to describe how to achieve beautiful and esthetic smiles with the use of 2D Lingual Technique. The presentation will focus on the step by step archwire sequence and clinical tricks to quickly align and level the teeth during the initial phase of the treatment. Subsequently, the working arch mechanics will be explained, with much consideration for the finishing and detailing procedures and

tools. Additional smile improvement might be planned in combination with veneers or esthetic build ups. The large variety of shapes and designs of 2D Lingual brackets, coupled with different auxiliaries, can significantly enable the clinician to treat the majority of malocclusions and quickly correct esthetic problems, especially when an invisible appli-ance is the requested. The introduction of the new generation of 2D Plus brackets can improve as well the torque control of the anterior teeth, expanding the treatment indications of such system, that represents a true esthetically pleasing and very comfortable alternative for the patients seeking lingual orthodontics.

Dr. Vittorio Cacciafesta

Improving smiles with the 2D Lingual Technique.

SPEAKERS

Controling roots of teeth with aligners alone has always been challeng-ing. In this conference we will show you several tips to do that suc-cessfully using different strategies.

Dr. Nicolas Najm

Strategies in control of root tipping in aligner orthodontics.

Through our experience in treating adult patients we know about the appearance of black interproximal triangles, marking papillary problems. How to prevent this particularly harmful phenomenon?Everything begins, as usual, with the diagnosis. It is necessary to know how and why this phenomenon occurs, which is certainly connected with the anatomical conditions of the interproximal space. The shape

of the teeth is particularly involved. The teeth of triangular or ovoid shape are often the cause. The approach is therefore diagnostic: knowing how to recognize forms and thus be able to establish an adapted treatment plan. By incorporating an orthodontic management strategy with a sequential stripping plan we ensure alignment with limited iatrogenic effects while improving the intrinsic aesthetics of the teeth.

Prof. Dr. Olivier Sorel

Prevent the appearance of the black triangle.

Although lingual orthodontic appliances have experienced a reawa-kening in the orthodontic world over the past 5 years because of the increase in demand for alternatives to conventional labial appliances, for some orthodontists, there is still some reluctance to offer lingual-based treatment to their patients because of unjustified belief in some therapeutic technical difficulties and patient discomfort. Where does

the 2D Forestadent appliance, compared to other lingual systems, stand facing such difficulties?

Dr. André El Zoghbi

Where does the 2D Forestadent System stand?

After 30 years practicing Roth Philosophy and in a constant search for efficiency, consistency and improvement of therapeutic results, our work has undergone a series of innovations. Aspects such as some of the modifications in our Treatment Mechanics, the influence of CBCT in our treatment planning decisions, tips for an efficient mechanics are some of the subjects that will be covered.

Dr. Jorge Ayala

Treatment Mechanics Update in the FACE Philosophy.

110 years of high-precision.FORESTADENT in Pforzheim.

FORESTADENT has its origins here in Pforzheim. Founded in 1907, the Bernhard Foerster GmbH was initially manu-facturing spring rings and fastenings for necklaces for the local jewellery industry. In 1934 we then started manufac-turing watch movements under the brand name FORESTA. The expertise from manufacturing smallest high-precision parts and the experience in premium quality surface treat-ment then became the groundwork for a very courageous corporate decision: Instead of just watching the structural changes in the business towards Far East, the grandsons of the company founder, Gerhard and Rolf Foerster, saw their chance in 1974. On the one hand they set up a manuf-acturing site for jewellery on Mauritius, on the other they ventured into manufacturing high-precision orthodontic products. Looking back, it was a wise decision which made FORESTADENT one of the top providers of dental materials for orthodontics and which led the family owned company into the future.

Finest movements, accurate to the smallest detail, have laid the foundation for turning this family owned company into a global brand.

The limited edition FORESTA® branded Junghans Milano is a reminiscence to our heritage.
