CONCEPT

For months now, the United States has been captivated by one of the worst environmental disasters in our nation’s history. The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has wreaked havoc on wildlife, threatened the livelihood of coastal communities and drawn much-needed attention to corporate responsibility. Even though the leak has finally been fixed, there is no doubt that the effects of the spill will carry on far into the future.

For the second project, I plan to design an interactive infographic. The site will not only attempt to display the details of the spill in a clear fashion but will also serve as a call to action to oppose offshore drilling and demand more corporate responsibility. TARGET AUDIENCE

males and females, ages 18 - 30 | not avid news readers, but are looking to get information quickly and clearly | environmentally-conscious, specifically interested in ocean conservation | technology savvy | politically active

RATIONALE

The site will aimed towards younger viewers who are interested in the oil spill, but want to get their facts in one place. The design of the site will allow them to interact with the information, rather than just read it.

Visually, the site will have a clean, informative look. While this may seem contrary to the subject matter, it will allow the information to be accessed easily. Vector graphics, maps, and charts will be used throughout the site.

While the site must maintain a serious tone because of the severity of the issue, I also want it to have a friendly attitude to appeal to the younger generation.
