Project SEARCH Newsletter December 2016
We would like to thank Robert Kilpatrick (assistant director of estates at the
University of Strathclyde) for taking time out of his busy workload to help us
with mock interviews on 1st/2nd December.
We would like to thank Alaine and Patrick from Pure and Applied Chemistry
for speaking to us and giving us information about a possible future rotation
in the Pure and Applied Chemistry department. Those of us who were
interested also got a tour of one of the Chemistry labs to see what it would be
like. We were interviewed for the place and Gerald was the successful intern –
he will start the week beginning 16th January 2017.
We would like to thank Audrey Harrower and Kenny Mack (from
Glasgow Supported Employment) for helping us with mock
interviews on the 14th and 19th December.
We would like to thank Dawn Edmiston (from SUSE - Scottish Union of
Supported Employment) for visiting Project Search and speaking to Siobhan
and Helen about a work focused peer support network for people with a
disability or long term health condition that is being set up in Scotland.
We would like to thank Julianne Panikkou (Glasgow Supported
Employment) for helping us get ready for job interviews in the future by
doing role playing on the afternoon of Monday 19th December.
Events Cinema Trip
A few of us went to the cinema to go and see “Fantastic Beasts”.
We all enjoyed the film and would like to do more events like the
cinema. The social committee are making more plans for more
outings in the New Year.
Christmas Lunches
Project SEARCH (interns and staff) will be going for Christmas lunch on Wednesday 21st
December to the World Buffet at Springfield Quay.
Future Placements
There is a possible future placement coming up in the Pure and Applied Chemistry
department. Those of us who were interested were interviewed (by 3 people) on Monday
19th December. We found out today that Gerald was the successful intern – he starts in
January.
Future Students
Siobhan Martin (lecturer) presented to the Transition students at the City of Glasgow
College recently about the possibility of applying to Project SEARCH for next year. General
applications will open on 25th January for anybody else who is interested. Please advise
people who may be interested – applications can be made through the college website.
Mock Interviews
We have been taking part in several mock interviews so we get better at answering
questions. We have more planned for January.

STAFF COMMENTS: PS staff would like to correct a mistake from the November edition. On the list of
supervisors for the new rotations that started week beginning 21st November, we
mentioned Jayne Walsh was Olethea’s supervisor; this should have been Jane
Wilson. Apologies to both members of staff.

you all enjoy the festive season.
Interns (and staff) finish for the holidays on Wednesday 21st December – the
interns finished their rotations on Friday 16th
December and are doing their
transition week in the class just now. We have been concentrating on job
searching and have started looking for jobs. Cover letters to be checked tomorrow

Hopefully everyone will enjoy their break and come back refreshed on Monday 9th
January ready to continue with their rotations and job searching.
