- - - - Der Mittelmeerraum ist in Bewegung. Projekte, Initiativen und Ideen
krempeln die Region um. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei junge Menschen. Sie
gehen auf die Straße, oder engagieren sich im Hintergrund, sie betätigen
sich politisch oder kulturell, sie arbeiten lokal, regional und international.
Allen gemein ist, dass sie sich einmischen wollen und für eine bessere Zukunft
kämpfen.
- - - - Das Cultural Innovators Network (CIN) ist Teil dieser Bewegung.
Das Besondere daran ist, dass es multi- und interdisziplinär sowie überregional
ist. Die Ideen und Ansätze zur Gestaltung des Wandels sind so vielfältig wie
die wachsende Mitgliederbasis mit bereits über 100 Mitgliedern. 2013 wur-
den diese Ideen Wirklichkeit: Beim 1. CIN-Forum in Istanbul im Dezember
2012 wurden 20 Projekte von den Mitgliedern selbst in einem demokratisch-
en Prozess erarbeitet und ausgewählt. Mit einem kleinen Anfangsbudget, ei-
nem Crowdfunding-Prozess und erfolgreichen Anträgen für weitere Fördermit-
tel nimmt die Umsetzung auf hoher internationaler Ebene inzwischen konkrete
Gestalt an. Förderlich ist dabei der bereits solide Ruf des Namens „CIN“.
Unterstützt werden die Maßnahmen durch das Goethe-Institut und die Trans-
formationsprojekte des Auswärtigen Amtes der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
- - - - Auf der Webseite und der Facebook-Seite von CIN werden Projekte,
Ideen und Bewegungen präsentiert, die in den Ländern des Mittelmeerraums
und Deutschland bereits umgesetzt werden. Junge Menschen nutzen diese
Plattformen, um Lösungen anzubieten, Alternativen aufzuzeigen und in poli-
tischen und wirtschaftlichen Krisenzeiten für Veränderung einzutreten. Diese
Aktionen atmen den Geist des Cultural Innovators Network.
- - - - Beim 2. CIN-Forum in Tunesien (November 2013) wurden die
Grundlagen für den Zusammenschluss als eigenständiges und nachhaltiges
Netzwerk gelegt. In einer demokratisch durchgeführten Abstimmung wurde
für eine mitgliedergeführte Struktur gestimmt, sowohl für die Konzeption als
unabhängige Vereinigung als auch für ein Labor zur Projekterarbeitung. All
dies wird von den Mitgliedern selbst verwirklicht unter der fachlichen Leitung
des gewählten CIN-Komitees. 2014 kann kommen!
Mit Enthusiasmus und Kooperationsgeist arbeiten die Teilnehmer des 2. - - - - On the CIN website and Facebook site,
the projects, ideas and movements in the coun-
tries around the Mediterranean and Germany,
which are already underway, are showcased.
Through them young people offer solutions, en-
courage alternatives and advocate for change
in times of political and economic crises. These
actions epitomize the spirit of the Cultural Inno-
vators Network.
- - - - At the 2nd CIN Forum in Tunisia (No-
vember 2013) the foundations for a fully inde-
pendent and sustainable community and net-
work were laid with the fully democratic voting
for a members-led constitution, conception of
an independent association status and project
generation-lab – all member and youth lead, ex-
pertly facilitated by the elected CIN Committee.
2014 and beyond roll on! CIN is ready and
pro-active, let actions speak.
- - - - The Mediterranean region is in motion.
Projects, initiatives and ideas developed by the
youth are leading this transformation. Whether
they are out in the streets or working behind
closed doors, young people are active through
political and cultural means and working locally,
regionally and internationally. They are united
by a common desire to get involved and fight
to create a better future for their communities,
countries and the world at large.
- - - - The Cultural Innovators Network (CIN) is
part of this movement. Its interdisciplinary, inter-
sectorial and inter-regional nature is unique. Its
ideas and approaches to creating change are
as varied as its more than 100 members and
growing. In 2013, these ideas became reality
20 projects were developed and selected by
the members themselves in a democratic pro-
cess at the 1st CIN Forum in Istanbul in Decem-
ber 2012. They have taken shape and action
on a high international level with a small start-up
budget, a crowd-funding process and success-
ful bids for further funds backed by the already
strong reputation of the CIN brand. All this
initiated and supported by the strong relations

- - - - Das Komitee wurde im Mai diesen Jahres durch die Mitglieder des
Netzwerks gewählt. Auf einer Onlineplattform veröffentlichten die Bewerber
ihre Wahlprogramme. Als Hauptaufgabenbereiche des Komitees wurden
die Vorbereitung des zweiten CIN-Forums und die Entwicklung eines Leitbildes
definiert. Wichtige Punkte waren die Organisation des zweiten Forums, eine
gemeinsame Vision für die Zukunft der Euro-MENA Region und die Intensivierung
des Austauschs zwischen den CINern. Um die Zusammenarbeit innerhalb
des Komitees zu konsolidieren und die nächsten Schritte für das 2. CIN-
Forum zu planen, fand sich das Komitee vom 3. bis 6. Juli zum Vorbereitung-
streffen in Marseille zusammen.
- - - - Während die Vorbereitungsgruppe tatkräftig an der Programmge-
staltung für das zweite Forum mitwirkte, arbeitete die Leitbildgruppe einen
Entwurf für die zukünftige Satzung des Netzwerks aus. In der heißen Phase
der Vorbereitungen sicherte das Komitee das Mitbestimmungs- und
Gestaltungsrecht der Netzwerkmitglieder, um partizipative und demokratische
Strukturen im CIN zu gewährleisten.
Auf dem 2. Forum in Hammamet (10.-14.11.13) übernahmen die Mitglie-
der des Komitees mit vollem Einsatz die Moderation mehrerer Sitzungen und
Workshops. Bis in die vorgerückten Abendstunden diskutierten sie zukünftige
Entwicklungen und mögliche Perspektiven für das Cultural Innovators Net-
work 2014.
- - - - Auch in Zukunft wird das Komitee dem Netzwerk ein Gesicht geben
und als Bindeglied zwischen CIN und dessen Kooperationspartnern wirken.
- - - - The Committee was elected this past May by the network members.
The applicants published their election programmes on an online platform. The
main spheres of the work of the Committee were defined as preparation for
the second CIN Forum and development of a mission statement. Crucial points
included the organization of the second forum, defining a common vision

for the future of the Euro-MENA Region and deciding how to further intensify
the dialogue between CINers. In order to consolidate collaboration within
the Committee and to plan the next steps for the second CIN Forum, the
Committee held a preparatory meeting in Marseille from 3 until 6 July.
- - - - While the preparatory group actively tackled the programme for the
second forum, the mission statement group worked on a draft for the fu-
ture statutes of the network. During the most intense phase of preparations,
the Committee ensured the co-determination rights of the network members,
an important element guaranteeing participatory and democratic structures
within the CIN.
- - - - At the second forum in Hammamet (10-14 November 2013), the
members of the Committee whole-heartedly took over moderation of a num-
ber of meetings and workshops. Into the late evening hours, they discussed
future developments and prospects for the Cultural Innovators Network in the
coming year.
- - - - In future, the Committee will continue to lend its face to the network
and serve as the link between the CIN and its supporters.

1000 AND 1 REALITIES- - - - Das Projekt 1000 and 1 Realities eröffnet Erwachsenen die Einsicht
in die Welt von Kindern, indem es Kinderzeichnungen aus Ländern rund ums
Mittelmeer sammelt. Um sich diesen Kulturen zu nähern, hielt 1000 and 1
Realities Malworkshops in den Städten Najaf, Istanbul und Nikosia ab, an
denen jeweils rund 30 Kinder teilnahmen.
In einem zweiten Schritt werden drei animierte Kurzfilme produziert, die auf
den Ergebnissen der Workshops basieren. Die Kurzfilme werden dann in
öffentlichen Räumen rund ums Mittelmeer gezeigt.
- - - - 1000 and 1 realities collects children’s drawings from around the
Mediterranean to open up this world to adults. To get closer to the cultures,
1000 and 1 realities already held creative drawing workshops in Najaf,
Istanbul and Nicosia. Each of the workshops was attended by approximately
30 children. In a second step three animated short movies inspired by the
workshops with children will be produced and will be shown in public spaces
around the Mediterranean.

- - - - Artivists 4 Change is a cross-sectorial project that connects young
artists and activists from around the Mediterranean, currently focusing on
Greece, Cyprus, Germany and Jordan. The aim core is to deal with social,

TRANS-CULTURAL DIALOGUES- - - - Im Rahmen der Initiative Trans-Cultural Dialogues soll in erster Linie ein
internationales Projekt ins Leben gerufen werden, das auch auf lokaler Ebene
von Bedeutung und im Mittelmeerraum verwurzelt ist. Aus diesem Grund hat das
Team eine Veranstaltungsreihe entwickelt, die alle zwei Jahre in unterschiedli-
chen Städten stattfinden soll. Als erster Veranstaltungsort wurde einstimmig
Algier gewählt. Im November nächsten Jahres findet dort an mehreren Tagen
das Festival “DJART 2014” statt, mit Aktivitäten in den Bereichen der bilden-
den Kunst, Musik und sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung.

That is why the team developed a traveling biennial to be held in different
cities. Unanimously they have chosen the city of Algiers for the first edition of

ing-armed disputes. The worst affected is the civilian population. Many young
people don’t know a life in peace – a fact that feeds into the conflict. To
break this vicious cycle, the project visits the worst affected areas and promotes
peace-building measures through information campaigns and workshops.

konkreten Projekten entwickelt haben. So führte Adham Hafez den Teilnehmern
vor Augen, wie ARC.HIVE die gegenwärtige Kunstszene Ägyptens doku-
mentiert, Material sammelt und Informationen über diese nicht nur bewahren
sondern in Zukunft in einem online Archive allgemein zugänglich machen
möchte. Projekte wie dieses fördern das Verständnis von Kunst und Kultur als
gesellschaftliches Bindeglied und Mittel der Kommunikation.
- - - - Als Beispiel für die spannenden Projektpräsentationen lässt sich auch
Demystifiying Prejudice anführen. Zwei junge Hobbyjournalistinnen ließen
sich durch Filmtechnik- und Journalistenworkshops zu sogenannten Bürgerjour-
nalistinnen fortbilden. Als Pilotprojekt wurde der Schulalltag eines deutschen
und eines ägyptischen Mädchens dokumentiert. Im Mittelpunkt standen die
unterschiedlichen Schulsysteme, die vor allem unter einem kritischen Blick-
winkel betrachtet wurden. Diese erste Videodokumentation macht neugierig,
welche Thematik Demystifiying Prejudice als nächstes angehen wird.
- - - - Zudem stellte Vladimir Palibrk als Koordinator von Risha-Project die
Webseite des Projekts vor, auf welcher mittlerweile fast 20 Comic-Künstler
ihre Werke präsentieren. Die Plattform möchte das Verständnis von Com-
ics als kultureller und künstlerischer Äußerungsform verbreiten, was bis heute
weder in der MENA-Region noch in den Balkanländern eine Selbstverständ-
lichkeit ist.
- - - - Die Mitglieder des Teams von Trans-Cultural Dialogues fanden sich im
September in Algier zusammen, wo neben der Erkundung der algerischen
Kunstszene die erste Planungsphase von DJART 2014 auf dem Programm
stand. Das Festival wird der Zielsetzung von Trans-Cultural Dialogues entspre-
chen, Aktivisten und Künstler verschiedener Tätigkeitsfelder zusammenzubrin-
gen um durch gemeinsame Projekte soziale Fragestellungen zu lösen.
- - - - Zudem war die wachsende Eigenständigkeit des CIN ein wichtiger
Punkt. Wie und in welcher Form soll das Netzwerk repräsentiert werden, wie
lassen sich Nachhaltigkeit und Diversität garantieren? Unter der Moderation
des Komitee-Mitglieds Niccolo Milanese wurde lebhaft über Themen wie das
CIN-Leitbild und die künftigen Aktionsformen diskutiert. In den kommenden
Monaten werden alle Mitglieder des CIN aufgerufen, an der Aufstellung von
Statuten mitzuwirken. Bis zur Endfassung ist es zwar noch ein langer Weg,
aber die ersten Schritte sind getan. Die Bewahrung der Grundideen des
CIN ist dabei essentiell, wie Mitgliedern betonen. „Wir sind ein Netzwerk,
dieses Selbstverständnis darf nicht verloren gehen”, hob Haneen Hijawii aus
Jordanien hervor.
- - - - Am zweiten Abend stellten Vertreter tunesischer NGOs ihre Arbeit vor
und tauschten Erfahrungen aus. „Eine praxisorientierte Ausbildung und die
Möglichkeit zu experimentieren ist für junge Künstler essentiell, das Wesentliche
lernt man nicht aus Büchern”, so Sana Tamzini, freie Kuratorin und ehemalige
Leiterin des « Centre National d’Art Vivant ».

2014 seine Strukturen festigen und ausweiten kann. Die Erwartungen und
Hoffnungen für das Cultural Innovators Network sind groß. Die Energie der
CINer ist es ebenso, es wird ein spannendes Jahr 2014!

from 10 until 14 November in Hammamet on the northeastern coast of Tuni-
sia. With 55 participants, for the first time since the founding of the network
in Istanbul, a large number of members got together in one place. They pre-
sented their projects and spoke about challenges and new ideas.
- - - - It was truly impressive to see how visions have evolved into tangible
projects. For instance, Adham Hafez demonstrated to the participants how
ARC.HIVE is documenting the contemporary art scene in Egypt, compiling
material with the aim to not only preserve information about it but also make it
accessible to the general public in future in an online archive. Projects like this
one promote the understanding of art and culture as social links and means
of communication.
- - - - Demystifying Prejudice is another example of the fascinating project
presentations. Two young amateur journalists gained further training as “citi-
zen journalists” in film technology and journalism workshops. In their pilot
project, they documented the everyday school lives of a German and an
Egyptian girl. The focus was on the different school systems, which were pri-
marily looked at from a critical viewpoint. This first video documentary makes
us wonder what the next subject matter will be for Demystifying Prejudice.
- - - - Furthermore, Vladimir Palibrk, the coordinator of the Risha Project,
presented the project website where almost 20 graphic artists present their
work in comics. The platform aims to spread an understanding of comics as
cultural and artistic forms of expression, something that is still not matter-of-fact

Preserving the fundamental ideals of the CIN is essential, as members stress.
“We are a network; this self-concept should not be lost,” emphasized Haneen
Hijawii from Jordan.

their work and shared their experiences. “Practical training and the opportu-
nity to experiment are essential for young artists; you cannot learn the crucial
