Future Leaders Award

A message from Gwen Rhys

Founder and CEO, Women in the City

In her address at the 2010 Future Leaders Award Ceremony, the winner, Felicia Trewin said “Management is about doing things right, leadership is about doing the right things.”

I hope that in the Future Leaders Award, Barclays Wealth and Women in the City are “doing the right things” by recognising the high-potential female talent working in London’s business hubs and, through Cranfield School of Management, offering the further professional development they deserve.

Our 2010 Finalists have all said that the Award process was beneficial, giving them an opportunity to reflect on their careers and obtain clarity about their future ambitions. All have kept in touch with each other and meet up from time to time.

Felicia has been an amazing ambassador for the Award, speaking at events for young people, making the most of her place on Cranfield School of Management’s Accelerated Talent Development Programme

and, like all busy people, she finds time for what matters most.

We are confident in the leadership abilities of all our Finalists and know they will “do the right things”.

Future Leaders Award Future Leaders Award

Nominated by Paul Taylor COO for Risk & Compliance, KPMG

Prior to joining KPMG, Kate has held a

range of senior roles at leading global

financial institutions, in the UK and

Australia. Kate has authored a range

of articles in both books and industry

publications, has been quoted in the

Asian Wall St Journal and Asia Risk and

speaks regularly at industry conferences.

Kate holds a Mathematics degree from

the University of Queensland, Australia

and is currently studying for her MBA at

the London Business School.

I am delighted to have been shortlisted

in the Women in the City Future

Leader Awards. Women remain under-

represented in business, both in number

and in status. Awards such as Women in

the City are invaluable in promoting and

celebrating women’s leadership skills and

contribution. Additionally, the promotion

of emerging women leaders provides

valuable role models for junior colleagues,

the absence of role models often being

a barrier to a woman’s professional

development.
