PRONUNCIATION COURSE I Pronunciation Assignment 5

1. Log in the Course Blog http://englishpronunciationi.blogspot.com/ and watch the presentation about

“APPLYING STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE PRONUNCIATION SKILLS IN ENGLISH LEARNING”.

2. Read the following steps and create three (3) different strategies that you may use to improve your pronunciation skills.

STEP 1: WEAKNESS STEP 2: ACTION

Think of difficulties or weaknesses you experience when pronouncing an English Sound. Make a list of 3 different situations.

Write some specific actions, habits or techniques you carry out or might use in order to overcome the weaknesses and difficulties you mentioned in Step 1.

Examples:

“I find it hard to pronounce this sound /θ/ in English”

“I can´t identify the different sounds between the words like Ship – Chip” “Remembering the pronunciation of these words Chore - Chemistry is difficult to me”

Examples:

- “I listen carefully to the pronunciation of a set of words and repeat it”

- “I always use an online dictionary to check the pronunciation and place them in a sentence”

- “I sometimes write down words with similar sounds to remember their pronunciation”

- “I learn and perform short dialogues to practice the pronunciation of words and phrases”

- “I look for words with the same sound and make a meaningful sentence”

STEP 3: WEAKNESS + ACTION = STRATEGY

Explain the reason why you make use of these techniques or actions by rewriting your previous ideas stated in Step 1 and 2. Examples: “Every time I find it hard to pronounce this sound /θ/ in English, I listen carefully to the

pronunciation of a set of words and repeat it over and over again” “When I can´t identify the different sounds between the words like Ship – Chip, I use an online

dictionary to check words pronunciation and place them in a sentence” “Remembering the pronunciation of these words Chore - Chemistry is difficult to me. So, I learn and

perform short dialogues to practice the pronunciation of words and phrases”

3. Send the strategies that you created to the teacher’s e-mail and don’t forget to include examples

showing what you did to improve your pronunciation skills.
