PROP WASH: As the leaves are falling and the days are getting shorter, our best flying might be with us. This has been a weird season of flying with too much heat and wind. The field, thanks to Charlie, is in great shape. We now have our mowing problems solved with the purchase of a Gravely 60” zero turn with a Kohler 27 hp. engine. Thanks to Leo and Walt, the beautification changes in front of the clubhouse certainly enhance the fine care that we portray when people come to our field. An additional thanks goes out to all of the members who made the donations that paid for all the plants that look so nice. Thanks to all of you. Say “Thanks” to a Veteran !

Our club’s annual picnic was well attended in lieu of a bad weather day. It was cloudy and windy, but some still flew. We had at least 40 members, as well as their family members, pre-sent for the event, which is close to one-third of our membership. We packed up around 4:00 p.m. as the rain came in as predicted.

Thanks to all who helped, and especially the cooks, Walt, Leo and Jerry Stevens. Thanks also to the families who brought the side dishes and desserts.

The election of our officers for 2014 is underway and results will be announced at the November meeting, which will be held on Nov. 9, the second Saturday in November, when we return to having our winter meetings on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. The 2014 officers will take office at the January RCMB meeting. The Installation and Awards Banquet will be held at Peerce’s Landing on Dulaney Valley Road on January 18. Full details of the banquet will be given at a later date.

Our membership has reached 130 and a lot more activity has been noted at the flying field.

Jerry McCallum is planning a bus trip to the WRAM Show in February. Stay tuned for details.

RCMB is in need of a cook to feed the crew for our meetings. Ron Stahl will continue to do the purchasing and stocking. With electricity, a refrigerator and a new grill, we are really set up to have this work well. Please contact Jack if you are interested in helping. We can even take turns in different months if several people offer to help.

Several “wings” have been awarded lately to happy new flyers:

Michael Weinstein, Zan Wills, Harvey Cohen, Ron Crockett and Salik Alvi. They are all enjoy-ing this great hobby. Michael and Zan, both teenagers, received their wings on the same day in early September and are flying very well.

Michael Weinstein and Zan Wills congratulate each other after they both earn their wings. It is very nice to see younger flyers do so well and really enjoy flying.

Jack Stites, RCMB President

Zan Wills earned his wings.

Michael Weinstein earned his wings on the same day.

RCMB FIELD SAFETY POLICY

All flying must be done from our flying stations. All flying must be accomplished in front of the fence safety line. We need to be in hearing distance to be able to communi-cate. This is basically why our flying stations are clustered together. Gliders and electric planes are much quieter and it is harder to determine what they are doing or where they are.

Signed,

Common Sense

SAVE THE DATE - RCMB Awards Banquet and Installation of Officers for 2014

The RCMB Installation of Officers and Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday eve-ning, January 18, 2014, at Peerce’s Landing. This event has been very successful the last few years so we are going back again. Drinks and appetizers will begin at 6:00 p.m. with din-ner following at 7:00 p.m. Installation of Officers and Awards will begin around 8:00 p.m.

The cost will be $39.00 per person again. Menu and more details, such as when and where to send your checks to Gene for reservations, will follow at a later date. For now, just remember to save the date.

NEW ENTRANCE GARDEN

Hopefully, everyone has noticed the beautiful new garden at the entrance to our field. Walt Dunsmore designed the garden with the help of Kingsdene Nursery, who donated all the plants. Walt did all the plantings and built the dry stack wall with stones he had on his property. The design is Southwestern and the plants are both deer and drought resistant.

When in need of plants, shrubs and flowers, it would be nice to support Kingsdene Nursery, 16435 York Road, Monkton, MD 21111, who supported our club in this venture.

This RCMB Banquet picture from the early 1960’s was sent to Jack by Jim Hardy, who was a member at that time. The only people we can identify are Dave and Tillie Mitchell.

As those of you whom have submitted their email address to the club are aware, messages and notices have been sent to you advising about club meetings and availability of the Transmitter on our web site. The club saved about $50 per issue during the 2007 series of the Transmitter by not having to mail it to our Internet connected members. That’s a sav-ings of @ $300 per year for the club!

It would be great if those members that have an address, and therefore Internet access, but have not advised the club of their address would do so. Everyone that does this saves us money each time the Transmitter is published. It would also connect you to last minute changes in meeting schedules and other events. Let Gene Krosnowski know your address (Tel # on page 1) and become one of the “connected”.
