Pavilion Highlights

French Pavilion: Renaud Zurfluh, Project Manager, Representing Business France (BP23):

This year, 12 companies participate at ProPak Asia under the French Pavilion. We offer a wide range of products and services such as packaging, heat treatment equipment, sterilisers and technical industrial services. Our objective is to meet importers, distributors and buyers to explore new business opportunities in the region.

Singapore Pavilion: Shen Huizhen, Manager, International Relations (BD26):

In 2012, the Singapore Pavilion was represented by 14 companies. Today, we have 32 companies with us. Every year, not only do we see the main industry players in the region, we see many new groups of buyers from the region as well. PPKA never fails to bring our participants new industry knowledge and leads.

India Pavilion: Naveen Seth, Principal Director, PHD Chamber Of Commerce and Industry (AR, AS49):

Any industrial event holds a lot of importance in the current competitive scenario. ProPak Asia 2019 has been one of the premier events in the Packaging industry in Thailand. At PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we are very proud to associate with ProPak Asia 2019 by contributing through the participation of Indian companies. We are confident that this association will

Festo: Thailand’s Food Processing Industry Partner

Diamiron Co-Extruded Multilayer Film

In a conversation with Festo at their booth at ProPak Asia (AG29, Hall 98), the focus on learning and

knowledge sharing comes to light. Festo’s digital tools help businesses improve their efficiency and increase productivity.

In a fast-growing market like Thailand, learning opportunities for small and medium businesses are abundant; the team at Festo believes that digitalisation is a learning process. It’s important for customers to understand exactly which areas should be optimised before taking the step forward.

“Start from simple components,” Nirut Kohkaew, Country Manager suggests. “Identify and analyse which

M itsubishi Chemical Corporat ion, a

Japanese chemica l company, is venturing into the Southeast Asian market with the opening of its new plant in Thailand. With commercial operations set to begin in April 2020, the facility will be producing its Diamiron

multilayer co-extruded film, which is used in food packaging, medical supplies and devices, and a wide range of other fields.

The Diamiron MF packaging film is made of non-permeable Polyamide and Ethylene vinyl-alcohol copolymer which is able to keep food such as processed meat fresh for longer. This enhances food preservation and reduces food wastage.

An Interview With Manu Kalra, Vice President Of Clearpack

Provisur Technologies Introduces The Improved VerTex Forming Machine

What innovative solutions are Clearpack showcasing this year? Clearpack is always trying to present some innovations at the ProPak show. This year, we are presenting a Collaborative Robot-based case erector, case packer and palletiser. The uniqueness of solution is that same Robot can do two functions—case erecting and case packing. This is suitable for many applications that are low to medium speed. The investment budget is quite reasonable, resulting in fast ROI for our customers.

We are also presenting an Automatic Guided Vehicle for internal logist ics automation in the factories.

N ot new but improved, the Vertex forming machine is a state-of-the-art rotary forming machine that doesn’t need extra equipment to either knock out or

clean drums. At ProPak Asia, we would like to show our customers that we have a wide window of different applications that we can run with the Vertex—in 600 and 1000 mm wide.

The VerTex combines the industry’s largest capacity with a revolutionary design, promising superior versatility, texture, portion control, and the very lowest cost of ownership. The advantages of the VerTex start with a proven dual lobe pump that uniquely protects the product’s natural structure and ensures accurate fills at rates up to 18,000 lbs (8,180 kg) per hour. And they continue to benefit processors of whole muscle, 3-D contoured and other high value products with the better shape and texture their customer’s desire.

Unmatched efficiency and reliability are assured by exclusive features designed to drive costs down. The result is perfectly portioned hamburgers, soy burgers, chicken nuggets, schnitzels and natural-looking whole muscle products, including chicken fillets, chicken selects, tenderloins, steaks and fish.

Through products like VerTex, Provisur has established itself as a company that is willing to think with its clients to solve problems in their daily manufacturing.

What are the packaging trends in the region? The trends we see are towards automation of end of line packaging process to have more efficient operation. Our customers prefer to use robotics wherever possible as it is perceived to offer more flexibility. On the packaging front, customers are looking to reduce their carbon footprint while still expanding their business.

L eading metal detectors by CEIA are improving food safety for prepared, convenience meals with their range of THS detectors which identify both magnetic and nonmagnetic

metals, including high-resistivity stainless steel. Metal detection as part of the inspection process can occur at several points throughout a production line. Its primary purpose being to identify metal contaminants such as aluminium or stainless steel in food products, or to detect other foreign matter, even paint chips, thereby meeting consumer expectations for safety, consistency and avoiding costly product recalls. Metal detection units also protect the machinery in your production line. The smallest metal particle could lead to machinery malfunction and result in loss of revenue due to production downtime to perform repairs and the cost of repairs.

Share2Act Bridges Communication Gaps In Modern F&B Plants

Rising Trend In Food Packaging

One of the pioneers of digital transformation, Krones has led the beverage industry with innovative solutions

for decades. Its latest solution, specifically created for the food & beverage industry, is integrated software, Share2Act, in collaboration with IT company, Syskron. Hosted on the cloud, the software aims to facilitate seamless conversation between employees to ensure a smoother workflow. Krones (Thailand) Co. Ltd Hall 103 BR01

Mustafa Scharifi, Head Of Sales Digitalisation at Krones comments: “Share2Act incorporates digital communication into an F&B plant—it connects employees, machines and IT systems seamlessly. Through this central and open IoT platform for applications and analytics, knowledge is transferred across hierarchies and devices, thus optimising communication and workflows in a modern F&B plant.”

Whether a company has 200 or 2,000 employees, a hierarchical structure creates communication gaps. Share2Act removes such gaps to create a joint platform in which content (text, photos or videos) can be exchanged in real time, despite a hierarchical structure. Facilitating conversation between staff, scheduling tasks, and ensuring fulfillment of maintenance operations are just examples of duties that are made easier by Share2Act.

Serving as an inter-linking device, Share2Act opens up a new avenue of possibilities in terms of operational flow. With an application on their mobile phone, each employee will be notified of pending tasks, unexpected downtime, or new content shared online. These notifications prompt a quick reaction from parties in charge.

Food and beverage manufacturers have been prompted to take initiatives on environmental issues

as 66 percent of consumers are willing to spend more on products from sustainable brands, according to Nielsen's Global Corporate Sustainability Report. Manufacturers are reducing packaging materials, exploring greener packaging alternatives and innovative solutions like edible fruit straws and biodegradable packaging films made from bacteria and yeast.

Although plastic is the material of choice, other non-plastic (glass, paper and metal) and biodegradable packaging materials are also growing in popularity. Beverage companies are also venturing into opportunities to create more “environmentally friendly” plastics like 100 percent recyclable plastic and bio-based plastic bottles. Bioplastic bottles are made from natural plant-based materials like polylactic acids (PLA) that are found in corn and sugarcane, instead of petroleum. Bioplastic has a lower carbon footprint as it produces less greenhouse gases when it degrades. Furthermore, it requires lower energy costs to manufacture.

However, switching to sustainable packaging can be challenging for food manufacturers. Eco-friendlier packaging may be less able to keep food products fresh and hence are not suitable for products which require longer shelf-life. Production cost for sustainable packaging is usually greater than traditional packaging.

I talian company, V-Shapes, is bringing its innovative packaging solution to Asia. A first time exhibitor, the company is showcasing its unit dose packaging machines

which produce single-serve packaging that requires only one-hand or three fingers to open. Key applications for this innovative packaging includes the areas of food, medical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics. The fully automated, multi-lane vertical form, fill & seal machines are capable of filling 0.2 to 40 ml of products at an average output of 16,000 units per hour.

Furthermore, V-Shapes is working with Natureworks, a US biopolymer supplier in its eco-friendly packaging projects. The company produces three sustainable packaging materials—fully compostable plastic material for food applications, 100 percent fully recyclable and 85 percent recyclable plastic materials.

With growing potential and demand for single serve packaging in the Southeast Asia market, V-Shapes is hoping to break into the Asia market through exhibiting in events like ProPak Asia.

“The export of packaging machinery is huge in areas like Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Asia is the second market for us in the world after the US,” said Christian Burattini, CEO of V-Shapes.

pack aging machine manufacturer, LEAP Machinery, is showcasing their flexible pouch packer for soft pack packaging. Currently, most soft pack packaging machines are manufactured in Europe and LEAP Machinery hopes to bring its self-developed machines into the Southeast Asia market.

The Flexible Pouch Packer simulates hand packing; it is a fully automated 2-axis robot arm with kinematic controller that is able to consistently deliver speedy pick and place applications. The first generation flexible pouch packer showcased in ProPak Asia produces about 260 packs of instant noodles per minute and the company is looking into producing 400 packs per minute by the end of this year.

LEAP Machinery is collaborating with ifm and Omron for Industry 4.0 solutions and smart sensor applications for its machines.

other modules such as the AURATEC. The AURATEC is a smart inspection solution which provides accurate and consistent pressure detection for production lines. Furthermore, the company is adopting new protocols to integrate their system into plant infrastructures.

FILTEC is planning to relaunch their intellect platform which integrates their five core technologies—vision, photon, sensor, system integration and guidance technologies. With the intellect platform, the company will be able to achieve flexibility and provide custom solutions for their customers.

“The intellect platform will allow us to adapt to specific needs and integrate in different lines and environments which while help us step out of the beverage industry market and venture into different industries such as the food processing industry,” said Christian Beck, Senior Product Manager, FILTEC.
