It is our great pleasure to invite you to the Korean Nutrition Society Symposium
celebrating the 40th anniversary.
The Korean Nutrition Society was established in 1967, an important period of preparing Korea's economic
takeoff. During the past 40 years, we have devoted our efforts to expand nutrition research and to improve
nutritional status of the general public. To accomplish our mission, we have organized numerous scientific
meetings, and regularly published scientific periodicals and reports. We established information-oriented
user-friendly web sites and the societymembers have carried out numerous policy making assignments. Now
we are celebrating our 40th anniversary and have organized an international symposium under the theme of
"Proper Nutrition for a Healthy Tomorrow".
We are experiencing rapid changes in our daily lives in this 21st century. Enormous developments in medical
sciences and technologies have brought increased life expectancy. Economic growth has solved our food
problems. However, nutritional imbalances and decreased individual physical activities created increased
morbidity due to chronic diseases, which became a major threat to human welfare. Therefore, to maintain
physical fitness by healthy diet is a precondition for our solid future. This symposium has been prepared to
provide recent topics in nutrition research field from basic nutritional science to applied nutrition. We believe
this symposium will be a unique and special opportunity to discuss the future directions of nutrition research.
At the symposium, we are going to declare the Nutrition Day for the first time, and this will be an excellent
starting point to deliver important messages to the general public.
Most of all, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to invited speakers, chairs, and poster
presenters for their contribution. Special thanks should be given to BK 21 project participants and industry
participants for their support.
The members of the organizing committee will do the best to provide special opportunities to recollect the
paths of nutrition research in Korea and to discuss future plans to make healthy tomorrow.
All the best wishes,
August, 2007
Namsoo Chang, Ph.D. President, The Korean Nutrition Society
