Proposed Zebra Crossing Church Road - Mitcham www.merton.gov.uk Dear Resident The purpose of this newsletter is to inform you that Merton Council has been successful in its bid to Transport for London (TfL) to fund accessibility improvements across the Borough. To improve pedestrian safety and accessibility to Haslemere Primary School and Church Road Children’s Centre in Church Road it is proposed to introduce a zebra pedestrian crossing in Church Road as shown on the plan overleaf. This will reduce the risk of personal injury and provide a safer crossing facility for pedestrians. To safely introduce the crossing, certain alterations to the road layout in the vicinity will be required. These include widening of the existing islands and the relocation of existing lamp column. This will ensure that suitable visibility is provided for pedestrians and approaching vehicles. What happens next A Notice of the Council’s intention to introduce the crossing will be published in the local newspaper and posted on lamp columns in the vicinity.
