Vision for LearnersTo educate a community of global citizens by providing them with opportunities to be all they can be and inspiring them to make a positive difference in a changing world.

MissionOur mission is to cultivate the intellect, passion and imagination of our learners so that they may engage productively and creatively as global citizens who value and respect diversity.

Welcome to Our WorldKnightsbridge Schools International in Montenegro belongs to a global network of international schools united through a shared ethos and curriculum. Modelled on both the successful features of Knightsbridge School in London and international standards expected of high quality schools across the globe, KSI Montenegro offers a unique and compelling approach to education in the beautiful Bay of Kotor.

KSI Montenegro is situated in the Porto Montenegro complex in Tivat, a short distance from the Adriatic sea, the mountains, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Bay of Kotor.

In 2010, KSI welcomed learners age 3 to 11 years and in August 2013, the doors will open to students age 11 to 15 years, growing by one year group annually thereafter.

A School of FirstsKSI is the first private international school authorised by Montenegrin Ministry of Education, and we are proudly working through the steps of International Baccalaureate authorisation.

The KSI CodeWe foster a strong sense of community and provide a supportive and warm environment within which learners are encouraged to “work hard and play hard.” Our ethos, expressed as the “KSI Code”, is shared with the learners, staff and families. By understanding and embracing the ethos, together, we can build a strong and caring KSI Community. This culture permeates through every facet of the school’s programme and recognises age appropriate ways to rediscover the ethos and the KSI code along the learning journey.

The motto of Knightsbridge Schools International, Be all you can be, remains central to each and every KSI School across the globe.

LearnLearners at KSI Montenegro come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

The language of instruction is English and we are committed to the implementation of the International Baccalaureate Programmes as our curriculum (www.ibo.org).

There are 3 IB Programmes The Primary Years Programme (PYP) 8 year programme for learners ages 3- 11 years The Middle Years Programme (MYP) 5 year programme for learners ages 11 – 16 years The Diploma Programme (DP) 2 year programme for learners ages 16 – 19 years

MultilingualismKSI Montenegro has a commitment to developing multilingualism through our language programmes. We currently offer host country Montenegrin as well as Russian, Spanish and French lessons. In addition, all of our learners have access to over 25 languages through RosettaStone.

A Focus on Transferable Skills & InquiryKSI Montenegro provides a holistic, balanced and varied curriculum that addresses the needs of all learners and supports the development of learning strategies that prepares them for each stage of their education.

At KSI we develop the knowledge, skills and values of our learners through active inquiry, participation and reflection so that they may become collaborative and compassionate global citizens who are committed to making a positive difference.

Preparing Learners for the FutureEvery KSI teacher seeks to instil in learners an attitude of confidence and success which, combined with a rigorous academic curriculum, opportunities for sports and self-expression through the arts, will prepare our learners to matriculate to the most respected institutions of higher education in the world.

Primary Years ProgrammeThe primary curriculum offers learners the opportunity to delve into inquiries that draw upon the Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, the Arts, Cultures, and Languages. The units spiral through six transdisciplinary themes, each supports learners to construct a deep understanding of concepts, the big ideas that can be applied across the different subject areas. Through the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values and understandings, learners are prepared to think critically about the world and their understandings.

“In the primary years, learners will grow in their understanding of six transdisciplinary themes: who they are, how they express themselves, where they are in place and time, how the world works, how we organise ourselves and how we share the planet.”

Middle Years ProgrammeThe middle years curriculum for students ages 11 to 16 years, engages learners in critical thinking, creativity of thought and expression, and reflection. The framework encourages connections between the disciplines, involving real world issues and fosters the development of knowledge, skills, and understandings through 5 areas of interaction.

The middle years curriculum builds upon the strengths of the primary programme and prepares students for the diploma programme. Students complete a personal project, researching and learning more deeply about a topic of their choosing. Assessment criteria are rigorous and support students to be autonomous in determining their learning goals. MYP students can earn certificates in each subject groups; forming a strong foundation for the Diploma Programme.

“In the middle years, learners will transfer and extend their understandings within five areas of interaction: approaches to learning, community and service, health and social education, environments and human ingenuity whilst continuing to develop their academic knowledge and skills in eight subject groups.”

Diploma ProgrammeKnown for its academic rigour and in depth study, the IB Diploma Programme (DP) supports students in their preparation for tertiary education. Unique to the DP are the extended essay, Theory of Knowledge course and Creativity, Action and Service. Students choose subjects at standard or higher level in each of the six subject groups. Assessment criteria, mock exams and the possibility to take courses online ensure that students are equipped to attend the universities of their choosing.

“In the diploma years, learners work towards a widely recognised university entrance qualification offering a broad and balanced programme with final examinations that prepares learners for success at university and life beyond.”

KSI Montenegro is a candidate school* for the PYP and an interested school* for the MYP and DP. In due course, we intend to offer the IBDP in September 2015. IB World Schools share a common philosophy - a commitment to a high quality, challenging international education, that we believe is important for our students.

Residential LifeAll students are encouraged to take initiative and develop personal responsibility, and are expected to actively participate in developing a friendly, welcoming and culturally understanding environment. This adds to the holistic experience of boarding and allows students to develop as a community of empowered and engaged global citizens.

Students’ routines are initiated by House Parents who support boarders on health, social, emotional and academic levels, and provide basic medical, psychological and counselling support. There is a strong emphasis on personal responsibility, respect and trust, and boarders are kept active and busy to enjoy their experience whilst reducing the risk of homesickness. Additionally, KSI offers culturally engaging activities to develop students as global citizens through the local and international community.

What is a Boarding School?A boarding school is a school where students and teachers live and study together in a safe and secure campus environment. Children at boarding school benefit from heightened interaction between themselves and teachers and develop enduring friendships and a sensitive understanding and respect for other cultures. Boarding at KSI seeks to nurture self-discipline, self-management and leadership skills. The residential campus environment ensures students are immersed in an educational world where learning is central to all activities. It’s a unique setting that promotes common experience, camaraderie, friendship, trust and honesty between children and adults.

RoommatesTypically, students share rooms with 1 or 2 other students, with rooms separated by gender. Students of different nationalities, cultures and languages are mixed to facilitate cultural curiosity, understanding and appreciation, and to challenge students to “be all you can be”.
