Thank you for choosing the Matrix PROTON 205! Please read the instructions in

this Quick Start carefully to install and program this compact, Small and Home

Office PBX.

Know your PROTON 205

The PROTON 205 is an entry level PBX with 2 trunk lines and five stations. The

five stations are numbered as 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 respectively.

Before you Start

1. Verify the package contents

Unpack the box. Make sure that the package contains all the following items.

If any item is missing or damaged, please contact the dealer/reseller who

sold you the PBX.

2. Get your Trunk and Station Cables ready 

For the Trunk and Stations, use a standard telephone cable (two-pair twisted

cable with 0.5mm connector). The length of the station cable may be extended

up to 800 meters.

Strip the ends of the trunk and station cables to be inserted on the system

side about 1 cm to ensure firm and neat contacts.

3. Get your Station Telephones ready You will need five Single Line Telephones to connect as stations. Any ordinary

push button phone, with or without Call Line Display, even cordless phones

can be connected to the PROTON 205.

IMPORTANT: Use single line telephones equipped with a Flash key, as

several of the features supported by PROTON 205 require you to dial the

‘Flash’ Key. If your phone does not have a Flash key, tap the Hook switch to

dial Flash.

Step 1: Installing PROTON 205

1. Select a suitable place on the wall to mount PROTON 205. Use the wall

mount template provided to mark the nail holes on the wall. Drill two holes

of appropriate size. Fix the two M 7/30 screws (supplied) on the wall with

the help of the screw grips (supplied). The screws must protrude slightly

from the wall. Align the keyhole slots with the screws fixed on the wall.

Slide the PROTON 205 down on the screws to secure it on the wall.

Or 

Lay the PROTON 205 on a table (with the front side facing up).

Connect the Trunk line

2. Remove the cover of the PROTON 205 by pressing on the top panel of thePROTON 205 as indicated (see Figure 5).

3. Using your thumb and index finger, grip and push back Trunk 1 terminal

(Figure 2).

4. Insert the stripped ends of the two wires into the two terminal openings

(one wire in each opening). Release your grip. Ensure that both wires fit

neatly.

Repeat step 3 and 4 to connect Trunk 2.

Connect the Station lines

5. Using your thumb and index finger, grip and push back the Station

terminal of Station number 2 (Figure 2).

6. Insert the stripped end of each wire of the station cable into each opening/

hole respectively. Release your grip. Ensure that both wires in the cable fit

in neatly.

Repeat step 5 and 6 to connect Station 22, 23, 24, and 25.

7. Match pulse/tone of trunk line and stations. If trunk line is pulse type, keep

all the station phones in pulse mode. Similarly, if trunk line is tone type,

keep all the station phones in tone mode.

Powering the PROTON 

8. Check voltage in the mains supply. Insert the 3-pin plug of the power cordinto an electrical outlet supplying 230VAC, 50Hz power.

9. Switch On mains to power the PROTON. The ‘ON’ LED will be turned on

when mains switch is operated. The Trunk and Station LEDs will glow

when you go OFF-Hook.

Step 2: Configuring PROTON 205

PROTON is programmed by dialing code sequences for each station and feature

group. The code sequence is typically:

• Dial Code-Station number/Trunk number-Code.

If programming code sequence you dialed is incorrect, you will get an

error tone. Replace the handset to disconnect, enter the correct code

sequence again.

1. Enter Programming Mode:

• Lift Handset.

• Dial 19-1234 (default password).

2. Current Time

• Dial 24-HH-MM (00-23 hours; 00-59 minutes).

3. Set Class of ServiceBasic features, Call Transfer, Hold/Toggle, Call Pick Up, Daily Alarm, Auto

Call Back, Cancel All Features, Quick Dial, Internal Dialing and Data Port

(Internet Ready), are available on all Stations. To make advanced features

like Conference, Do Not Disturb, Hotline, Memory dialing, etc. available on

these stations you must set the Class of Service for each station.

To set class of service for Station 21:

• Dial 31-21-0 for Basic features.

• Dial 31-21-1 for Basic features, Memory Dialing.• Dial 31-21-2 for Basic features, Memory Dialing, Do Not Disturb.

• Dial 31-21-3 for Basic features, Memory Dialing, Do Not Disturb,

Hotline.

• Dial 31-21-4 for Basic features, Memory Dialing, Do Not Disturb,

Hotline, Interrupt Request.

• Dial 31-21-5 for Basic features, Memory Dialing, Do Not Disturb,

Hotline, Interrupt Request, Conference.

• Dial 31-21-6 for Basic features, Memory Dialing, Do Not Disturb,

Hotline, Interrupt Request, Conference, Ring Only Once.• Dial 31-21-7 for Basic features, Memory Dialing, Do Not Disturb,

Hotline, Interrupt Request, Conference, Ring Only Once, Raid.

Follow the same steps for Station 22, 23, 24, and 25.

3. Set Toll Control 

To set Toll Control for Station 21:

• Dial 32-21-0 to deny Trunk access.

• Dial 32-21-1 to allow dialing of local numbers.

• Dial 32-21-2 to allow dialing of local numbers and numbers starting with‘9’.

• Dial 32-21-3 to allow dialing of local numbers, numbers starting with 9

and 95.

• Dial 32-21-4 to allow dialing of local numbers, numbers starting with 9

and 95 and STD access.

• Dial 32-21-5 to allow dialing of local numbers, numbers starting with 9

and 95, STD and ISD access.

Follow the same steps for Stations 22, 23, 24 and 25.

4. Set Trunk Access

 All stations can access both trunks, by default. However, you can allocate

a specific trunk to a specific station or even deny trunk access to a

station.

To program trunk access for Station 21:

• Dial 33-21-0 to deny Trunk access.

• Dial 33-21-1 to allow access to Trunk 1.• Dial 33-21-2 to allow access to Trunk 2.

• Dial 33-21-3 to allow access to Trunk 1 and 2.

Follow the same steps for Stations 22, 23, 24 and 25.

5. Set Trunk Parameters

Dial 41-1-0 to disable Trunk 1.

Dial 41-1-1 to enable Trunk 1.

Dial 41-2-0 to disable Trunk 2.Dial 41-2-1 to enable Trunk 2.

6. Set Trunk Landing 

To set hunting scheme for Day time on Trunk 1:

• Dial 44-1-0 to turn Off Hunting.

• Dial 44-1-1 for Round Robin Ring.

• Dial 44-1-2 for Delayed Simultaneous Ring.

• Dial 44-1-3 for Immediate Simultaneous Ring.

Default: Round Robin

To set hunting scheme for Night time on Trunk 1:

• Dial 45-1-0/1/2/3

Follow the same steps to set hunting scheme for Trunk 2.

7. Set Day and Night Modes• Dial 25-0 to set Day-Night mode manually.

• Dial 11 to set Day mode.

• Dial 12 to set Night mode.

• Dial 25-1 to set Auto Day-Night mode.

• Dial 26-HH MM (00-23 hours; 00-59 minutes) to set time for Auto Day

mode.

• Dial 27-HH MM (00-23 hours; 00-59 minutes) to set time for Auto

Night mode.

To set Trunk 1 and Station 21 as destination for Day/Night mode:

• Dial 42-1-21 for Day Mode.

• Dial 43-1-21 for Night Mode.

Follow the same steps to set Trunk 2 and any other station as destination

for Day/Night mode.

8. System Security 

To change Programming Password:

• Dial 21-New Password (max. 4 digits from 0-9; characters ‘*’ and ‘#’

also valid).

9. Exit Programming Mode

• Dial ‘0’ .

• You will hear the dial tone.

Congratulations! PROTON 205 is now fully operational with its PBX features.

Reinstate Default Setup?

• Dial 19-Password (if not changed, use default 1234).

• Dial 18-Password -get confirmation tone.

• Reconfigure the PROTON 205.

Forgot Programming Password?

To restore default password:

• Switch off power supply, plug out the power cord.

• Remove top cover.

• Change position of mini jumper on the PCB (J3) near the processor to

 A-B position (Figure 3).

• Plug in power cord, switch on power supply.

• Wait for 3 seconds Do not touch the device! 

• Switch off power supply, remove power cord.

• Restore mini jumper to original position B-C.

• Replace top cover.

• Switch on power supply.

• Enter programming mode by dialing Dial 19-1234.
